21.01.2022 Well, I got real busy for a while (not stolen by Gypsies or Aliens) the current project has expanded a little and has taken up research time. The deck has been completed and now I am just finishing off the balustrade and gate before installing the deck lights. As usual, there is nothing available locally to give a bit of individuality to a project, a few ideas were thrown round and the client wanted shiny and wood as a common denominator.....I suggested posts of laminated har...dwood and stainless mirror finish railings with cable rigging between them. It has turned out quite well without being over the top(pardon the pun). The challenge was to give the appearance of freestanding balustrades that are rock solid. A lot of sweat and perseverance paid off. I have fabricated a gate of square stainless and will be mounting that to the wall and connecting to the post in the last pic. I will have to move the tap and plumbing first to fit the hinges for the gate. Stay posted! See more
21.01.2022 The deck has access from four points and all have different heights based on their position..and each has different design of step to fit the position. First is the access from the back of the house.
21.01.2022 Well the current job is nearing it's completion. It has been an interesting project to put together. The last stages are to build steps on 3 more sides to allow access to the deck area. and then install low voltage lights around the perimeter and steps for any entertaining of an evening! The attached pictures and comments are in chronological order.
20.01.2022 The last step on the deck is access from the carport, which is at Rt angles to the deck and a height of 600+mm.I thought a gradual swing around effect would look good so fiddled around with angles and rises. and it has turned out good thus far. Will upload the finished article in a day or so.
20.01.2022 Hi Folks! The Endangered logo represents the spirit of this page. The Vitruvian Man by DaVinci, represents the Renaissance of Man; whereby DaVinci showed and inspired others to develop skills in many areas and fields other than their One specialty. DV was known as an Painter but was also an Engineer a Mathematician a Sculptor an Inventor, however Primarily recognized as a Painter. In 1906 this became applicable when the 80:20 rule was developed- called the ' Pareto Principle' to be continued...

16.01.2022 The Pareto Principle. Vilfredo Pareto was a Renaissance man- an engineer, economist, philosopher, sociologist and political scientist who developed the 80:20 rule that carries his name. We are possibly more familiar with the application being 80% of return derived from 20% of input. Most businesses see 20% of their customers produce 80% of turnover for example. But what about the 20% missing from turnover? And how is this relevant to DaVinci and endangered blokes?... The answer to the first question is that the principle is immutable; like peeling an onion gives you an onion but smaller! The second answer is - Jack of all trades, Master of one \ to be continued See more
16.01.2022 Been having an interesting month putting a deck together in Mt Lawley; which is now flowing along nicely. The idea was to have a deck flowing from the same level as the doorstep, out into the garden. Along the way have been a few challenges considering it is a Federation era home,; decks into the garden were not high on the future planning agenda for houses back then!
16.01.2022 The rear door on the Merc ML55 has had some attention to the paint, as well as using a new cutting compound, I Also have applied it with 2 random orbital machines using sponge pads as opposed to my trusty old lambswool bonnet... the results speak for themselves.
13.01.2022 This 01Mercedes ML55AMG had been driven through car washes all its life. The LH pic is just after getting the car, the surface finish was very scratched and dull from detergents used in the car wash as well as the grit and particles in the recycled water caught in the wash brushes. Pic 2 is the drivers side after removing surface blemishes, rubbing back with 2Kgrit paper, fine cutters with a hard face sponge buff head and then ultrafine cutters on a soft sponge buff head. Pic 3 is a high intensity light to show up swirl marks in the paint, very few without application of wax.
12.01.2022 The final of the Mt Lawley saga, came to fruition as a Shade Pavillion, using 90% UV block shade cloth. Held taught using cord and aluminium extrusions. Again, the owner was wanting something a little different to a patio, and with the summer we have had the deck needed something to keep it cool in the sun(not to mention heads also) He had fitted a fully functioning outdoor kitchen and more power points for the deck lighting, LED high lites and also the LED strip lighting which is fully programmable. The irony of all saga's here; is that he was posted to Qland and the deck, balustrade, lights and pavilion were put to use for the first time on his going away party!!
11.01.2022 Next step was access from the front walkway

07.01.2022 This room extension had a makeshift frame to hide the external plumbing, which was also leaking.A suggestion of using a couple of spare 10 pane doors to make a feature wall where the old plumbing no longer existed was embraced and the near end result gives a dramatic transformation of doors to feature wall which will be a conversation pit with 2 burnished chesterfields close to the winerack .Few more days, and it will be completed, considering low voltage 'mood' lighting behind the frosted panes.
06.01.2022 The final touches have been put to the feature wall, with LED strip lighting behind the frosted panes, giving the room an ambiance when dining with the lights low
04.01.2022 A lot of time has past, a lot of hair follicles have done the Procul Harum on me and turned a " greyer shade of pale".. I now have my middle son living in Perth, Sam is a carpenter that has made a name for himself in a short time while in Perth. He has the luxury of a Dad that is proud of his achievements in standards and self determination. I have the joy in knowing he is a cut above the rest and a chip off the old bloke..... couldn't help that sorry, I feel that way regardi...ng all of my amazing offspring. I have been missing from keeping this page alive due to having a JOB (Just Over Broke) for 10 hrs a day behind the wheel of a LWB van, the upshot of which has been meeting some wonderful people in my travels and deliveries and arriving home too exhausted to continue on with all of the unfinished projects which I had started prior to becoming again-gainfully employed. I appreciate the loyalty of those die hards who check in from time to time, checking for updates. I have of late been given the opportunity to get back to business while I await the nod for a knee replacement over the back fence at Armadale Health Service. The page may be gaining an enhancement; with guest input from the aforementioned Sam Kirby of SJKarpentry. Not Only, being available to field any of yr queries on all that is"woody" But Also; being a regular foil to my grandiose ramblings of derring-do! ( or derring-didn't) From a feedback vote reply standpoint, I am curious to test the water.. If the Endangered Species logo remains current (which it will) what are "the thinking man's" group audience thoughts on the site name being amended to - A1manarmy & Son. ?? N.B. the legality of the amendment will be confirmed upon pending DNA results
