07.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW Generally, we think of organs as anything within the body cavity of an animal: liver, spleen, lungs, kidneys, heart, and so on. But when it comes to raw feeding, organ meat typically refers to secreting organs only like liver, spleen, or kidney. That means muscular organs like heart or gizzards are actually fed as muscle meat instead of organ meat. While technically designated as a body organ, the heart is not considered an organ meat when it comes to pet... nutrition. Why? Because while it functions as an organ in the body, it is actually made up ofstriated muscle tissue. One of the jobs of organs such as the liver and kidneys is to filter toxins in the body. They do a lot of the dirty work, which is why organ meats should be used in limited quantities as part of your pets raw diet raw organ meat, while nutrient dense, should only account for up to 10% of your companions total diet. On the other side of the organ spectrum, we have the heart. The heart is a myogenic muscular organ found in all animals with a circulatory system. It pumps blood through the body by repeated, rhythmic contractions.
