04.01.2022 The journey to being a sustainable school has many parts. 11 years after we were approached by Wendy May and NICA with a worm farm to start composting food scraps, St Andrew’s welcomed back Sherida the turtle expert from Coolum Coastcare to receive the Container Refund funds for new turtle rescue slings. Thanks to our Facilities Manager Tania Lee for driving this. After meeting Sherida and Tony, Orlando and the Primary School’s Waste Warrior team have restarted the container collection points, motivated to keep making a difference. Community partnerships, empowerment, and youth agency, local, hands on authentic learning for sustainability. Love it!

02.01.2022 Heading out to Cherbourg tomorrow for our first Ration Shed Tour for the year. On and off, Ive been facilitating these tours since 2007 when Aunty Honor Clear...y asked me to get more people out there to learn about how Aboriginal people were treated by the Government and forced to live like prisoners in their own country. These tours still get me very emotional, especially the bit about Uncle Mitta Dynevor, a champion boxer who won at the Empire Games and it makes my heart sing to see how other people react when they learn about this history. I run these tours in the spirit of Reconciliation. One of the 5 dimensions of Reconciliation is Historical acceptance and when people have the opportunity to hear personal stories directly from Elders and community who grew up Under the Act, the learning is much richer and powerful. Hope you join us one day on a tour or book yourself in directly with the Ration Shed Museum.

01.01.2022 The deadline to register to attend the PD to build an online School Environmental Management Plan is tomorrow!
