11.01.2022 On 27 November 2019, the Holidays and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2019 (QLD) was passed by the Queensland parliament, amending the Holidays Act 1983 (QLD). The amendment declares a part-day public holiday in Queensland from 6.00pm to midnight on Christmas Eve (24 December) and will commence in 2019. The Christmas Eve part-day public holiday in Queensland applies only for certain purposes, including, for working out a persons entitlements under the Industrial Relations ...Act 2016 and the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth). As a result, it is not intended to impact Christmas Eve being a business day for any other purpose. for further information, please head to: https://aalara.com.au/?s=modern+awards

Since Monday, the AALARA Board Directors and I have been lobbying the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Treasurer, State Premiers, Federal and State Ministers for Tourism, Trade, Industry and Small Business to carefully consider our industry right now. We have requested they relax some recently introduced legislations for at least 36 months, as well as provide some form of support to businesses within the industry, to ensure the future survival of our industries.
