24.01.2022 In most cases, sore or cracked nipples are the result of incorrect positioning or attachment. Often your own breastmilk is the best 'nipple cream' due to its anti-infective and soothing properties. It is important you speak to your midwife, lactation consultant or medical adviser before applying anything else to your nipples to check if this is the right choice for you and your baby.... https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au//com/sore-cracked-nipples

21.01.2022 Oh Poo! Never thought you'd talk so much about it now you have a baby, right? It can sometimes get confusing about what is normal for babies. How many times should they poo in 24 hours? And what about this 10 days I often hear about?... So what is normal and what do we want to see? Under the age of 6-8 weeks, your baby should have three or more runny poos within 24 hours; about the size of the palm of your baby's hand. After this age, it can be quite normal for a baby to poo less often, even once every 7-10 days, as long as when your baby does a poo, there is a large amount of soft or runny poo coming out. If your baby is under 6-8 weeks and has gone longer than 24 hours without a poo, our Breastfeeding Counsellors and Educators are here to have a chat. We are used to talking poo https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au//common/baby-weight-gains
20.01.2022 My 7 year old daughter is learning about certain types of animals at school at the moment and she was telling me about the Platypus and how they feed their babies. She insisted that everyone at ABA needed to know this information. So yeah, now you know Jess
19.01.2022 Some Mum's can experience some Breastfeeding challenges. Can anyone agree? Perhaps you're using a SNS line? Wanting to relactate? Perhaps you're looking to get out of the top up spiral or are experiencing Breastfeeding pain? Whatever the challenge may be, our trained volunteers are here to give you support and work out a plan for you and your baby. It's reassuring to know that with the right information and support, most challenges can be overcome. ... Our website is full of Breastfeeding information. 13.01.2022 Happy World Breastfeeding Week! Let's light up the feed and celebrate by showing your favourite Breastfeeding photo! Our next meeting in Rockhampton will be on this year's WBW theme, breastfeeding for a healthier planet. Hope to see you there!
12.01.2022 Today is World Prematurity Day An estimated 15 million babies are born preterm every year more than 1 in 10 babies around the world. Having a premature baby can be a big shock for many parents and everything may seem a bit unreal at first.... Medical research shows us that breastmilk makes a big difference to the health and survival rates of premature babies. Many Mother's breastfeed their premature babies. It may take extra work and practice, but it is possible https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bf-info/premature
12.01.2022 This time of year can often mean lots of visitors. As much as babies are so irresistible, it's important to remember, if you are a visitor, to monitor your time holding the baby. Some Mum's find they prefer visitors to wait until they have offered before anyone holds the baby. Lots of smells, cuddles and noise may over stimulate baby which may often leave parents with a cranky baby and missed breastfeeds. If Mum says no, it's ok, we're sure you can hold baby another day
12.01.2022 Announcement! Our Yeppoon Friday meeting on starting solids will now be held via our groups private Facebook page. Be sure to join our page so as to not miss it! We apologise for the changes! ... https://www.facebook.com/groups/abarockycapcoast/?ref=share
11.01.2022 In recognition of NAIDOC week, ABA would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work. We pay our respect to their elders past, present and emerging and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. We also acknowledge the indigenous women of Australia who have been living, working, birthing, breastfeeding and raising children on this country for tens of thousands of years. #NAIDOC2020
10.01.2022 Wanted Demo Mum/baby (and even a partner if possible). Saturday 22nd August for about 15 mins 10:45am... 59 Burnett St, Nth Rocky Please comment if keen
10.01.2022 Many new mothers find that the early months with a new baby are a time of mixed emotions. Nothing can prepare you for the feeling of responsibility that comes with a new baby. However, as time passes, you will get to know your baby and can better predict what they will do. When that happens, things will improve. For more information see our articles on early days as well as our fantastic booklet available via our website, Breastfeeding: an introduction. https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfinfo/index.html
10.01.2022 Hi Rocky and Cap Coast members and friends. We were very saddened to hear yesterday that a Qld radio station saw fit to use ABA membership as the subject of a prank. The National Breastfeeding Helpline, which is free for everyone to use, receives over 80,000 calls a year, and the cost of running this is supported by Association members. It is deeply disappointing that anyone would make this very important service the brunt of a joke.... To all the mums who have called us in the middle of the night, you are not a joke to us. To all the mums who have called us in tears because it's all overwhelming, you are not a joke to us. To all the dads who have called us when their partners can't, you are not a joke to us. To all the parents who were doing just fine but needed a confidence boost, you are not a joke to us. And most of all, to all our volunteers who donate time away from their own families to support those in need: we see you, we hear you, we value you. You are not a joke to us. As always, we are here for you, regardless of what insensitive media personalities choose to say.
09.01.2022 See you all soon
09.01.2022 Many babies will take a bottle of milk following a breastfeed (even if they are full!) and so mother's offer mistakenly believe they don't have enough breastmilk. If you are concerned about whether you have enough breastmilk or are wanting to stop the top up spiral, our counsellors are here to support you and make an individual plan for you and your baby. https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au//my-baby-getting-enough-m
