24.01.2022 Have you spotted any crocs lately? The Department of Environment and Science is urging the community to report crocodile sightings as soon as possible, by calling 1300 130 372 or reporting it on the new QWildlife app. This crocodile was snapped swimming under the Railway Bridge in the Fitzroy River yesterday by local man Wil Randl.... The Department says it's investigating another croc sighting in the freshwater section of the Fitzroy near the barrage, that was reported in October. Wildlife officers have now set a baited trap in an attempt to capture the 2.5m reptile. Members of the public are being asked to stay away from the trap to avoid danger and to maximise the chances of the animal being captured. The fine for interfering with a crocodile trap is $15,138. Under the Queensland Crocodile Management Plan the area of the Fitzroy River above the barrage and 20km upstream is within Zone C (Targeted Management Zone). This means that any crocodile that is two metres or greater in length, or any crocodile displaying dangerous behaviour, is targeted for removal. Crocodiles that pose a threat to human safety are targeted for removal under the Queensland Crocodile Management Plan. Waters in the Rockhampton region are known Croc Country and people in the area are reminded to always be Crocwise. In particular: Expect crocodiles in ALL Rockhampton waterways even if there is no warning sign Obey all warning signs they are there to keep you safe Be aware crocs also swim in the ocean and be extra cautious around water at night Stay well away from croc traps that includes fishing and boating The smaller the vessel the greater the risk, so avoid using canoes and kayaks Stand back from the water’s edge when fishing and don’t wade in to retrieve a lure Camp at least 50 metres from the edge of the water Never leave food, fish scraps or bait near water, camp site or boat ramp Never provoke, harass or feed crocs Always supervise children near the water and keep pets on a lead Remember, you are responsible for your own safety in Croc Country Report all croc sightings to DES by calling 1300 130 372. : Wil Randl

Thea was admitted to Emerald Hospital with an upper respiratory tract infection and an extremely low blood sugar, before she was flown to Rockhampton by the RFDS. When they had to put her canula in for her drip the nurses were making faces and doing things to distract her and keep her happy, she said. Clarke was our pilot we had a male nurse Hayden, and he was just so good to her in flight. Everyone was just so helpful, I cant thank them enough." Thankfully Thea made a full recovery and will be celebrating her 1st birthday this weekend. supplied

Given this, she is incredibly friendly and affectionate to the point that she will even climb into the keepers’ laps for a cuddle. She has been seeing her ear, nose and throat specialist at the Gladstone Mater Hospital for surgeries and ongoing check ups since February 2019. In April, Queensland Health announced it would buy the facility, but Ms Reay says the change of ownership left her without a specialist at short notice. ... "He had to reschedule surgeries that he had already had previously booked in, in Gladstone," she said. Ms Reay said due to significant wait times for public and private ENTs in Rockhampton, she now travels almost 600 kilometres to Brisbane for treatment. A Queensland Health spokesman said specialists have been kept informed during the acquisition. He said category three ENT patients may have a wait of around 365 due to the backlog from COVID-19 mitigation.
