23.01.2022 CITY ENTERTAINMENT BOSS RESIGNS The City of Greater Bendigo will begin the search for a new entertainment boss later this month after long-time manager David Lloyd's resignation. Mr Lloyd started in the role in 2004 and over the past 16 years has helped shape the city's performing arts program which attracts around 200,000 people to Greater Bendigo every year.

22.01.2022 The Department of Health has reported two new cases of coronavirus in Greater Bendigo, one in Mount Alexander, one in Campaspe, three in Macedon Ranges and six in Mitchell Shire. Bendigo Health has confirmed one COVID-19 patient remains in intensive care with five others in the respiratory ward, one less than yesterday. There are 30 patients being monitored at home through the Hospital in the Home program, an increase of seven from yesterday.... Emma Kennedy from Kennedy Farm Produce took us through the crop to show us how it’s harvested. ... Once we take the cob off the plant, we remove any of the remaining silks, and it’s literally ready to pop in the microwave and eat, she said. 13.01.2022 HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO THE BRIDGEWATER POST OFFICE The town of Bridgewater is celebrating its one year anniversary of saving the post office. The previous owners had reduced its hours and were selling it in August last year when a group of eleven residents bought the license.... The Post Office now employs three young local staff to help run the store during business hours from Monday to Friday. Shannon Brown is the licensee of the Post Office and says the alternative would have meant travelling to neighbouring towns for the service. "The alternative would have been the doors closed and probably having to go to our neighbouring towns to get that postal service which is not ideal and it means some of the older people in our community would have had to travel just to send mail or get a stamp," she says.

But that dream would have been hard to achieve in her home country. ... When I was in Afghanistan I feel that I’m not safe, because I can see every day there is attacks, Laila said. The Taliban and Daesh doesn’t want women to be studying and working the same as men, but in Australia men and women are the same, they’re equal. Laila sought asylum from Afghanistan in 2014, and lived in three different Australian cities before coming to Bendigo last year. And last month she gained her Australian citizenship, a huge achievement that brought her one step closer to achieving her dream job. Australia really needs someone like me, a police woman with a different culture and language, Laila said. If I am a police woman I will also be an interpreter in Dari and Farsi. "But first I am working on my English and language, because English is my second language."

After gaining huge interest in their hay bale characters, Bluey and Bingo, which were set up at Tongala's Post Office in July, the community formed a local development group and started planning a huge hay bale art trail for December. There are 18 different installations for visitors to come and see over the entire month, all using donated local hay.... "We've got a bit of a mix of traditional Christmas - think Grinch and some red and white, some very exciting cartoon characters, and we've also got some Australian animals with a Christmas theme as well," said Amber Townsend, one of the artists and organisers.
