23.01.2022 So many labels. So much misunderstanding. So much damage caused, when a little understanding, communication is all that is needed. I’ve been there. I believed and trusted the wrong people. I believed my dog was dominant and stubborn. Really she is fearful, experiences pain, has trouble managing her stress and responses. A little Management, choice and cooked chicken has opened up her world, the relationship and understanding between us. Dog is good.

23.01.2022 I’ve got those Friday funnies feels!

19.01.2022 Does your dog enjoy massage? Is he recovering from an injury? Is she selective about touch? I strongly encourage you to consider doing this course. Since doing it Jade has gone from barely tolerating touch for three seconds, to actually asking for touch and falling asleep. She is also more confident to ask for what she wants, defining when, where and for how long. Oh, she also now tells me she prefers hard scratches to massages.

11.01.2022 I was shocked today to see quite a few dogs being walked in the heat of the day. Dogs don’t sweat like we do, so they can struggle to maintain body temperature, and they’re likely to over-heat on a day like today with the heat and physical activity. Their paw pads are also prone to burn from hot surfaces. ... Please plan to walk your dog first thing in the morning, or on grass in the shade if you do have to walk your dog in the evening, encourage your dog to sniff in order to slow them down, and don’t forget to take water for both of you.

09.01.2022 I'm seeing a lot of these going around this year. It's heartening to see people more aware of this issue. Not keeping dogs in hot cars, even for a short time, is another message that needs to be seen more broadly. Dog's paws are prone to burn from asphalt, concrete, footpaths & beach sand. Just like us. Have you ever tried to walk across beach sand on a hot day? If you can, it's best to walk them in the morning on a hot day, as the surface has had all night to release it's heat, but if you have to walk them later in the day, then take them to a nice park with grass & shade. You'll enjoy it more too.

07.01.2022 I’m in no way commenting on the effectiveness of this product, have used it on Jade in the past. There are a lot of products on the market now that make claims without backing those claims up with verifiable research. Unfortunately there seems to be little protection any more from companies making all sorts of claims about products released to the market. Do your research, look into evidence for and against, but at the end of the day the most reliable action to take is to r...efer to professionals in the area. In this instance it would be a behaviour vet. Just like in human medicine, they are specialists who have done extra studies beyond that required for general practitioner vets. We’re very lucky to have some great behaviour vets in Perth. If you’re looking for a behaviour vet I’m more than happy to talk with you about it. https://skeptvet.com//evidence-update-the-latest-on-pher/

07.01.2022 This is why positive reinforcement works! It’s not just a training methodology, it’s life. Reinforcement drives behaviour.

07.01.2022 If you don’t have the time to do it, I’ll help you by walking your dog! That's right! On top of our other services, including the ,Walk and Train', ABC Dog School now offers a dog walking service! The rate is $35 for one dog for an hour, during which I'll safely give your dog physical and mental enrichment, using whatever activities & games they enjoy. This may be a stiff walk, a game of fetch, or just a nice mosey along while they enjoy snuffling up whatever scents are avail...able. Thanks to my experience with Jade, I'm able to safely cater for special needs dogs, including dog fearful etc. ensuring your dog feels as supported & safe while they go about enjoying the environment. If you have any questions, or would like to make a booking, please get in touch.

06.01.2022 The people in Adelaide are in lockdown for six days, not even allowed to walk their dogs. Fortunately there are things they can do to ensure their dog’s enrichment needs are taken care of during this time. If you can’t walk your dog for a day, don’t feel too bad. It can be good for them to learn to just take a day out to chill sometimes. I do offer a walking service if you’re not too far from me, in Coolbellup WA, so reach out if you would like me to take your pooch for a supported and enriching walk.

06.01.2022 Good morning! In this video I talk about one simple and cheap thing you can do today that will be beneficial for your dog. If you do try this please post a photo of how you’re changing the way you’re feeding your dog! ... It’s really easy!

03.01.2022 Happy happy hump day!
