25.01.2022 Could your gut bacteria be influencing your food cravings? Is it making you put on weight or affecting your mood? Bacteria does more than just digest your food. But before you consider going down the poo transplant pathway, consider reviewing your diet as a first course of action. In summary, eat more unprocessed whole grains, fruit and vegetables; cut back the alcohol and high refined foods including simple sugars. ... Article comes with cute animated video.

23.01.2022 Its time for a reminder to get your Vitamin D levels checked. In 2014, the ABS National Health Measures Survey revealed 1 in 4 adults in Australia were deficient in Vitamin D and this can lead to some serious health issues. Vitamin D plays a role in cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function and reduction in inflammation, but most importantly promotes calcium absorption much needed for bone growth and remodelling. A deficiency can lead to the development of Osteoporosi...s (i.e. holes in your bones) and increase the risk of fractures, which can potentially be fatal. If you have a spinal cord injury or reduced mobility due to other medical conditions, you are at higher risk of developing this silent disease. A deficiency has also been linked to depression, other mental health problems and heart disease. So, get your vitty D levels checked regularly by your GP and spend some time in the sunshine!

22.01.2022 It's National Nutrition Week this week so it's a good excuse to eat more fruit and veg. Only 50% of Australians consume their recommended 2 serves of fruit a day and only 7% consume the recommended 5-6 serves of vegetables daily. What's a serve? 1 serve of fruit = 1 med piece or 2 small pieces (e.g. kiwi fruit, plums)... 1 serve of veg = 1/2 cup cooked veg or 1 cup salad So why not try having a piece of fruit as a snack or adding an extra veggie or two to your meals. A little change can make a big difference. - Peas and love -

10.01.2022 "A bad diet isn't going to be made good by a handful of blueberries" . If you are looking to optimise your diet and overall health, it's about increasing variety and not focusing on single foods--Fact. Also, so called "superfoods" are crazy expensive thanks to clever marketing! Come and see us instead--we'll save you money.

07.01.2022 Helicobacter pylori, the same bacteria that causes stomach ulcers may also be the cure to allergies. Early days but an interesting area of research.

05.01.2022 A beautiful one pan dish by Yotem Ottolenghi. You'll need a few herbs and spices but it's worth it. Best shared with friends and served with a side of veggies (of course). View recipe here: http://www.ottolenghi.co.uk/chicken-with-caramelized-onion- Enjoy.
