22.01.2022 Our #TiddaTuesday goes out to the inspiring women of the Tjanpi Desert Weavers. The women artists are working on a commission for the Know My Name project, an initiative of the National Gallery of Australia to celebrate the significant contributions of Australian women artists. Next year, the Tjanpi Desert Weavers commission will become part of the national collection, which includes the largest collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art in the world. Displayi...ng "endless creativity and inventiveness", these whimsical works generate awareness and insight into culture and Country alongside their focus of creating income and employment for women on their homelands so they can provide for their families and community. Now representing over 400 women artists, the Tjanpi Desert Weavers remit is vast, covering approximately 350,000 square kilometres and encompassing 26 remote communities across the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia. #acpa #aboriginalcentrefortheperformingarts #dance #deadly #aboriginal #indigenous #culture #inspired #dancephotography #deadlydancer #firstnations #ausdance #danceaustralia #contemporaryperformance #contemporarytheatre #performancecompany #brisbane #brisbanearts

22.01.2022 ACPA Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts Dance student Tia Atwood has just returned after completing 7 weeks of her cadet-ship with the The Australian Ballet. Tia will be returning later this year to complete the final portion of her placement and we cannot wait to see what she achieves in the future! "In early 2020 we welcomed our inaugural First Nations Education Cadets into The Australian Ballet. The cadet training program was written in late 2019 and is 12-week placement ...to develop teaching, performing and choreography skills with the company that they can take back to their communities and use within their careers. Through this program, strong recruitment partnerships have been made with the specialist Indigenous Arts Colleges Naisda and ACPA. In the first 7 weeks, the cadets joined the team in devising the school and community content and rehearsing the new choreography for Wilaygu Ngayinybula Possums two minds by Wiradjuri choreographer and company dancer Ella Havelka. Part of Ellas process was to incorporate the yarning circle and a workshop on the mental health of Aboriginal young people with specialist Dr Jane Havelka and our own Sam Wright. The cadets return at the end of the year to complete their placement." https://australianballet.com.au/learnin/wilaygu-ngayinybula See more

19.01.2022 Tonight on the Sydney Opera House website at 8pm Bangarra Dance Theatre will be airing their phenomenal work Terrain. Terrain transports us to Lake Eyre in South Australia, the place of Australias inland sea: one of the few untouched natural waterways in the world. Choreographer Frances Rings explores the fundamental connection between Aboriginal people and land - how our land looks after us, how we connect with its spirit, and how we regard its future. Terrain explores the relationship of Indigenous people to country and how landscape becomes a second skin, inspired by the timeless beauty of Lake Eyre in South Australia.

09.01.2022 Another #WellnessWednesday with @summer_till_dance_ Today Summer focuses on Alignment. Alignment of the body within dance class was always important- but now more than ever in our "Home Made" dance studios amongst the stay at home regulations we have to be aware of our surroundings and our movements. Its important to know where we place the body within positions, angles and space...Twist too far and your line isnt pleasing to the audience and perhaps your transition to the... next position may not be as smooth. In contrast not twisting enough Will result in not get the most extension out of your body. Alignment is about the shapes we create and the lines we strive to further develop each and every technique class. A simple Contemporary Port De Bras such as this can be practiced and filmed so you can watch your alignment back and see to make improvements. See more

07.01.2022 WELLNESS WEDNESDAY Tips from the ACPA Trainers Summer Till discusses Freedom in Movement for all of our dancers out there. Having freedom within our movement is so important in Contemporary dance. Allow your spine and head to move with the swing and momentum of your arms. Keep your knees bending over your toes and soften the transitions through levels as you drop your body over and forward.
