They are from Creation times and reshaped Bunabu Country and created sacred sites as they went.... The tribes between Queensland and the Northern Territory would sing songs about these dogs and I believe we are are connected through our story telling and song cycles.

"Growing up back home in my community of Lockhart River, I spent a lot of time with my cousins, brothers and sisters with our grand and great grand parents fishing. We would camp near the Quintel beach front and sit by the camp fire. My grandparents would gather all of us grandchildren and tell us dreamtime stories of our land and ancestors history. They would wake us early in the morning to d...o more fishing. As we walked down to the rocky stones to find spots to sit and cast our hand lines into the sea, we would see big waves splashing, breaking and exploding high into the air at sunrise. My uncle still talks about this spirit when he takes visitors to its home at Djowi (Top Brooking Springs)... In Creation times a boy who loved the water a great deal sadly drowned. It is said he became a Merman or Crocodile Man and is now the guardian and protector of Djowi and every living thing in the springs. We must never disrespect this place and when fishing take only enough to feed our family.
