24.01.2022 Today is Remembrance Day, a day for us to remember the sacrifices made by those who died or suffered in wars and conflicts. We share with you this story about how an Australian War Memorial's Indigenous callout lead to a general's revelation about family past. Major General Thompson invites Australians to reflect on the sacrifice of Indigenous Australians, as NAIDOC Week and Remembrance Day fell together this week.... "Indigenous service people have served in every major conflict, every deployment, every operation in the history of the ADF," he said. "Theirs is a story of service, theirs is a story of sacrifice." We will remember them. https://www.abc.net.au//war-memorial-helps-solve-/12870158

19.01.2022 Aboriginal Housing Victoria (AHV) and 18 Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), Traditional Owner groups and Aboriginal Trusts are celebrating the announcement of a successful bid for the $35m Aboriginal Rapid Housing Response, aimed at stimulating the economy through the building industry. The landmark proposal - the first submitted from any sector in Victoria under the Rapid Housing Response Program - demonstrates true self-determination and a comm...itment to Victoria’s economic recovery. It took the organisations just on four weeks to develop the plan that will see unprecedented employment opportunities within the building industry, whilst addressing the dire need to upgrade ageing social housing accommodation across the state of Victoria. The $35 million proposal will provide a long-term legacy, looking beyond the current pandemic and simultaneously supporting the achievement of the goals in Mana-na worn-tyeen maar-takoort, Every Aboriginal Person has a Home (Victorian Aboriginal Housing and Homelessness Framework). The Framework was officially launched by AHV and received by the Victorian Government at Queens Hall, Parliament House on the 26th of February. Underpinning the speed in which the package was landed is the expertise of Aboriginal organisations in housing; their desire to raise the benchmark in housing standards for their communities and to demonstrate to the wider population our collective capacity and commitment.
