20.01.2022 Love and prayers for the Gloria Tamerre Petyarre, an incredible artist who passed away June 8th. Gloria's worked interpreted the stories of the sacred Medicine Leaf providing a way to keep the dreaming alive. I first met Gloria in 2018 and it was an incredible honor to watch her paint in person. The libraries of knowledge that she held about country was profound and vested a spiritual power that seemed transcendent within her. She had a smile for everyone and graced the count...ry not only with her talent but kindness and heart. I was incredibly lucky to have meet her and spent time with her. She was the first Indigenous person to have won the 1999 Wynne (landscape) price at the Art Gallery of NSW. This helped to mark a change in the status quo and a re-examine why there was such under representation of contemporary Indigenous art in State galleries. Gloria's spirit is now soaring high with her ancestors once again. Sending love to Gloria's family and friends. See more
