22.01.2022 **Important changes to keep you safe during Covid-19** We are working hard to continue to provide essential veterinary services during this unprecedented time. In order to ensure our staff and clients are kept safe we are implementing some important changes.... From Monday 30th March you will be required to call ahead before attending Acacia. All people attending Acacia will be asked the standard Covid-19 screening questions. We are implementing contactless ordering and pickups for all of our products (eg. flea/tick/worm treatments, special diet & food products). Please call to place an order and pay over the phone. We will advise you of pickup options. When attending an appointment please note the following: - To protect everyone we will not be utilising our indoor waiting area - Please use the new intercom or call (4939 5988) when you arrive. - Wait in your car and we will notify you when the vet is ready for your appointment - Only one healthy adult may attend with your pet. - Follow directions and maintain safe distancing in the consult room and at the counter (please observe signage and markings) - Use cards where possible for payment (strong preference for contactless - tap and pay) - We are unable to offer hospital visitation at this time Please DO NOT attend our clinic if you have: - Any flu like symptoms or fever - An unexplained cough - Have been overseas in the last 14 days In addition to these changes we have introduced additional disinfection measures throughout our practices. Thankyou for your cooperation and support in keeping our community safe during this challenging time. The Acacia Vet Clinic Team
21.01.2022 With the current COVID-19 precautions in place, we at Acacia Veterinary Surgery are still providing pets and clients with the best possible care, and are operating as normal until advised otherwise. Thank you for your co-operation during this time - The team@ Acacia Veterinary Surgery
21.01.2022 LETS PAWWWWTY! The silly season is here, the champagne is popping, the music is cranking and Brutus is shaking... The holiday season can be extremely overwhelming for our pets, so here's some tips to make it a little less stimulating and stressful for Brutus. Educate your guests - ensure everyone knows that you have a dog and how they should interact with your pet. Isolate Brutus if drinking heavily - intoxicated people may lack the judgment and ability to interact wi...th animals safely. LOUD NOISES - give Brutus somewhere quiet and isolated where he can relax away from all the noise. Socialise safely - if unfamiliar dogs will be at your party, have them both meet outside first to avoid territorial issues. Be wary of children - Ensure kids are familiar with dogs and how to interact with them safely. See more

18.01.2022 PROTECT YOUR POOCHES! There has been an alarming number of positive heartworm cases within the Yeppoon and Emu Park region over the past few months. With numbers increasing so quickly over a short period of time we need to act fast to ensure that all dogs are protected from this deadly parasite. Heartworm is a parasitic round worm that infects dogs, which means if left untreated, once they are infected the juvenile heartworm can complete their entire life cycle within the do...g!!! Heartworm is transmitted when an infected mosquito feeds on a dog, the Microfilaria (juvenile heartworm) enter the dogs blood stream where they begin to mature and make their way through the blood stream into the dog’s heart, lungs and associated blood vessels. THEY CAN GROW UP TO 30cm LONG!! SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS TO LOOK OUT FOR please note dogs that are infected may not show any clinical signs until there has been significant damage done to their internal organs. Coughing Becoming lethargic Loss of appetite Having difficulties breathing Tire rapidly after only moderate exercise If left untreated heartworm can be fatal There is a very simple blood test that takes 10 minutes of your time that can tell us if your dog is infected with heartworm and can be completed in clinic. Please call us now to make your appointment if you think your pet is not up to date with Heartworm prevention.

05.01.2022 MEOWY CHRISTMAS - lets talk about Festive Felines The holiday time can be especially stressful for our feline friends, with the constant flow of visitors, bright lights and loud noises. So how can you help? Make sure you provide a safe, quiet and comfortable place for your cat to hide. Have your cats bedding, litter, food and water in a spot that is easily accessible and away from high traffic areas. If your family & friends decide to bring Brutus over for a play da...te, keep him away from the cats to avoid any unnecessary stress. Keep an eye on your kitties around Xmas decorations such as tinsel, light cords and hanging ornaments, these can be very dangerous if ingested. Senior cats may be more prone to stress-induced illness when there is too much chaos going on in your home. Look out for signs of stress in your cat such as, inappropriate elimination, inappropriate scratching, diarrhea, isolation, decreased appetite & over grooming. Call our friendly staff to discuss products that may help alleviate stress or just for some advice! #meowychristmas #catchristmas #acaciavet #cat See more

05.01.2022 PRESLEY Meet one of our most recent Puppy Preschool graduates, Miss Presley. Presley has all the correct tools up her sleeve (or Mum's sleeve) to become a well mannered and well socialised dog. We love to hear back about how our graduate puppies are progressing and it was so great to see Presley again for a check in and see just how much potential she has. Just 5 minutes of training a day is enough to keep our pups focused and on track, along with the added benefit of strengthening the bond we have with our new puppies.
