24.01.2022 It’s not too late to call out an inspiring teacher who has made a big impact in your life for #WorldTeachersDay! Tell us about your special teacher in the comments below. ACARA’s Rachael and her daughter had this to say: Kiara: 2020 has been really hard for heaps of people, especially my family in Melbourne, but it has been a good year for me as I learnt how to think like my mum and do maths like my mum. She helped me to understand and get better, and I got second in Maths Wizard. Rachael: I remember Year 5 as being an amazing year for me at school because of an inspirational teacher I had, Mr Toomey. He brought learning to life, he was engaging, informative, inspiring, and above all, encouraged us to learn and apply that learning to the world around us. #WTD2020 #teachersday

13.01.2022 Today, we remember those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in wars and armed conflicts. This year, Remembrance Day falls during NAIDOC week, and we’d also like to pay special tribute to the brave Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in our military forces. Douglas Grant was born on the lands of the Ngadjonji Nation, in the Bellenden Ker Ranges in the Atherton Tablelands, Queensland, and later served in World War I. He was a prisoner of war in German...y and when he returned to Australia, lobbied for Aboriginal rights and became an activist in returned servicemen’s affairs. You can read Douglas Grant’s fascinating story and stories of other Aboriginal soldiers who served in the First World War on the Australian War Memorial website https://bit.ly/2UgZ118. In History in the #AusCurric, students can investigate key aspects of World War I and Australian experiences of war. #WeWillRememberThem #LestWeForget #remembranceday2020 See more

09.01.2022 Our CEO, David de Carvalho, went back to school this week when he visited the unique Cabbage Tree Island Public School, tucked away at the eastern end of Cabbage Tree Island Aboriginal community. The visit was part of an informal tour to listen to teachers’ views on implementing the Australian Curriculum, and David said meeting all the students and teachers was an incredible learning experience. I experienced first-hand what I had been told about Cabbage Tree Island Public School, namely that it is a place where the spirit of community and wonder is strong. I also learnt a number of Bundjalung words, including gurumun, meaning ‘kangaroo’. David was also treated to the first performance of the Spirit Bird dance, which was taught to the students by the renowned Indigenous dancer, ‘Uncle Viv’ Anderson.

08.01.2022 Recently, ACARA’s Joe Sambono was lucky enough to witness first-hand the incredible partnership between teachers and the local community on Ngarrindjeri, Kaurna and Narrunga Country. As part of South Australia’s Aboriginal Contexts in Science Initiative, teachers had an amazing opportunity to learn directly from the community about the country they live and teach on. This will instill long-term benefits for years to come and help increase cultural understanding in classrooms, especially in regard to learning about science in these regions. #aussieED #learning

07.01.2022 What’s the relationship between the three dimensions of the #ausCurric? Find out as ACARA’s CEO, David de Carvalho, takes us through the connection between learning areas, cross-curriculum priorities and general capabilities. The review will look to declutter the curriculum by improving the relationship of the general capabilities and the cross-curriculum priorities to the content of the learning areas. The review timeline includes two public comment windows in 2021 on proposed content changes. Stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter: https://bit.ly/3nhMXJj.
