22.01.2022 Wreck Diving The SANKO HARVEST February 14, 1991 saw the Sanko Harvest floundering on a reef some 21 nautical miles from the Esperance Port. What was originally seen as an environmental disaster turned out to be a major windfall for the diving fraternity. The second largest wreck dive in the world and the largest off the Australian coast this 174 metre long Japanese Bulk Carrier now acts as host to a vast array of marine creatures. The ocean has taken its toll and the wreck... has divided into three sections. The depths vary between 18 and 44 metres of water. Officially declared a marine sanctuary in 1994 the wreck acts as a safe haven for the large blue groper and red snapper that inhabit the twisted remains. It is not uncommon to have a visit from an inquisitive seal or dolphin. Esperance Diving & Fishing has been operating out of Esperance since 1983 and exploring the wreck from day one. Traditional Bavarian drinking songs like Ein Prosit, Bayerisches Bierlied and Waldeslust are mixed with classic Aussie rock and pop songs like A Long Way to the Top, Khe Sahn, Land Down Under and Never Tear Us Apart all in the oom-pah-pah style.... 18.01.2022 The new Esperance Jetty is fast nearing completion and we are planning an opening event to celebrate with the community! At the moment our vision for the day is a community event from 12pm-6pm, with the official opening at 1pm. There will be local acoustic musicians playing throughout the day and market stalls spread across the Jetty Headland. Other small activities like giant games, a Tanker Jetty History stall and first on the new Jetty competition are planned. We are inter...ested in accommodating supplementary activities (craft, fishing, bouncy castles etc.) hosted by individuals or community groups. The exact event date is yet to be confirmed as it is dependent on the project’s completion but we have tentatively booked Sunday, 28 March 2021. We’d like to collect details from people interested in having a stall or hosting an activity. Please fill in this form and return to [email protected] by Monday 15 March if you would like to be involved. There will be a final event meeting for all stalls, food vendors and activity hosts on Monday, 22 March at the Esperance Civic Centre between 5:30pm-6:30pm to prepare for the event. This event has a COVID-19 Safety Plan and as per the new requirements for contact tracing, will have several sign in stations for compulsory registration of attendance. Additional sanitiser stations will be available, stall holders have individual Safety Plans and physical distancing will be in place.
