22.01.2022 The Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) published AASB 16 in February 2016. The Standard must be applied to annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2019. As we are now well into 2020, this Standard is applicable to all businesses and it changes the way that companies manage the financial accounting of their leases. It has a direct impact on the balance sheet and profit and loss statements.

This extension hasn't been rolled out in the same haste as the first iteration, so we're hoping there won't be so many changes but are not holding our breath! 10.01.2022 Another deadline for 31 August: with JobKeeper now extended to employees on your payroll at 1 July, organisations have until 31 August to make top-up pays for Jobkeeper fortnights. Check your employee eligibility now and make sure they've been paid at least $1500 per fortnight in August to claim JobKeeper subsidy for them.

09.01.2022 The JobKeeper deadline is 31 October! Time is almost up to opt in for the first extension of the JobKeeper program. There is no requirement to re-enrol if your NFP already receives JobKeeper, but you do need to confirm your decline in turnover for the September 2020 quarter compared to September 2019.... 09.01.2022 The Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) year ends on 31st March. The last thing you want is to realise in April that you have exceeded the threshold and find yourself with an FBT liability. Employers are required to perform a self-assessment of your FBT liability and lodge an appropriate return. We encourage you to review your payroll records now and be prepared to make adjustments if necessary.

03.01.2022 There are a lot of challenges being faced by the alcohol and drug support sector right now. There are major shifts in service delivery because of COVID-19 and this is causing a lot of agencies to have to redo their budgets, to review their HR structures they need to make a lot of modifications to how they manage their finances. Larry Pierce is the CEO of NADA the Network of Alcohol and other Drugs Agencies. We talked to him about NADAs relationship with Accounting For Good and how COVID-19 is impacting the sector.

02.01.2022 The governments response to the global coronavirus pandemic has helped to minimise the spread across our country but the economic impact has hit hard on Australian businesses and their employees. The severity of this impact is yet to be quantified as we still face an extended period of disruption. Fair Work Australia has made an array of temporary changes to the Fair Work Act in order to support employees, employers and the community during this time. As an employer, its vital that you comply with Australias workplace laws and to be familiar with any changes to your responsibilities.
