24.01.2022 We had the absolute pleasure of meeting this gentle giant last week. Fonzee came to see us after getting a bone stuck in his oesophagus, which we were able to remove endoscopically. Believe it or not this was the fourth case we have treated of a dog getting a bone stuck in their oesophagus in only the last 5 weeks! #aceveteuroa #referralvets #referralvethospital #vetendoscopy #euroa #strathbogie #northeastvic #wherepetscomefirst #braveboy

13.01.2022 This post has taken us a long time to post, it has been a lot to process! Some of you may have been aware or even watched the recent episode on SBS Insight regarding mental health struggles within the veterinary industry. We as a team have been talking through the episode, as we try and come up with ways for us to do it different, ways we can support our staff. Being informed, having open and honest conversations and education is the best way forward for us as well as our client's and their fur babies, so we urge everyone who missed the episode on SBS Insight to go back and watch it. And most of all, let's all be kind to one another. https://www.sbs.com.au//overwhelming-response-to-insight-s

08.01.2022 The health and well being of our patients, clients and staff is of utmost importance to us here at ACE Vet Hospital and as such our everyday policies and procedures incorporate a very high standards of cleanliness and disinfection throughout. Here are a few things we can all do to help keep our community safe and well: Frequently use the hand sanitiser station in the reception area. Do not attend the clinic if you are feeling unwell, have a fever or cough. If you feel ...it’s a matter of urgency that your pet is seen, please call ahead and we can make arrangements to minimise potential risk. This could mean asking a friend or family member to attend with your pet. Always have your pet contained with a lead or pet carrier and keep away from others in the waiting area and keep a distance of 1.5 - 2 metres between yourself and others, it may be that waiting outside will work for you and your pet Where possible, limit only one family member to attend the clinic with your pet as less traffic through the clinic will hopefully help keep everyone well. If your pet is on medication for chronic illness or requires prescription food, please ensure you call ahead of time to organise repeat prescriptions/medications and to ensure continued supply. We are happy to take orders over the phone and leave at your front door if you are unable to come in through isolation. We would like to thank everyone for your understanding during these uncertain times. It is the responsibility of all to do every little thing we can to help keep our community safe.

08.01.2022 Late night hospital checks took a little longer tonight...this little critter wanted to play! She’s looking for a forever home, please get in touch if you have a lot of love to give this one #euroa #acevet #wherepetscomefirst #strathbogie #rehome

07.01.2022 Some of you may already have had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful Dr Tiffany, if not, here she is! Dr Tiffany graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2019 and then spent 6 months traveling the world before joining us at ACE Vet Hospital. Tiffany has a keen interest in dermatology and small animal surgery. Dr Tiffany has such a kind and gentle soul...but also a wicked sense of humour and is a great baker, turning up some mornings with tasty treats for the team! Tiffany is super hard working and dedicated to the ACE Vet pets and their families, we are all so lucky to have Tiffany as part of our community.

04.01.2022 Spring has sprung...and also brought along its friend "Cruciate Disease"! This is generally the time of year we see more cruciate disease causing pain and lameness amongst our 4 legged friends.

03.01.2022 Allergy Season is Upon Us! As we shake off the cobwebs of winter and see an increase in temperature, we tend to see an increase in time spent with our beloved pets in the great outdoors. However with increased temperature and grass growth comes increased allergens, especially when it comes to our furry friends. Here at ACE, this time of year generally has us seeing more itchy dogs and cats and an increase in the amount of ear issues. Why do our pets get itchy? ... If our pets show a generalised itch, meaning all over their body, this is a condition that we term ‘atopy’ and is the immune system reacting to a variety of proteins that are present in the environment, similar to hay fever in humans. That being said the condition often has multiple factors and we often find that dogs that have atopy tend to respond well to special diets that help reduce the potential for food allergens. We tend to see a spike in these cases around this time of year assumably due to emerging growth in a variety of plants and grass species, all carrying their own particular proteins or pollens. What can be done? There is a varying range of atopy among our pets and as a result there are multiple ways in which it can be managed. A consult with the vet explaining the symptoms, timing and severity will allow us to come up with a tailored plan that best suits your pet. More often than not, treatment usually includes treating for external parasites such as fleas and mites, introducing a special diet to reduce the sensitivity of the skin and sometimes some medications to help. This is a condition that cannot be ‘treated’ as such however is usually managed. Some cases are more difficult than others and occasionally management can be as frustrating to the owners as it is for their pets! What to do if your pet is itchy? Having an itch that you cannot scratch will drive you mad and it is no different for our pets. Loss of sleep, weight loss, poor coat and bacterial sores can all result from the summer itch and this certainly doesn’t look pleasant for our furry friends to go through. Simplest thing to do is to book an appointment with your vet and go through your pets symptoms and severity. A short discussion with your vet will have your pet feeling better and enjoying summer in no time!

01.01.2022 Happy Easter to all! Wishing you a safe and fun time with your families and fur babies.
