14.01.2022 Limb Length Discrepancies! Relatively Common. 2 categories: Structural and Functional. Not always necessary to treat but sometimes is the one thing that if treated, makes a big difference for people.... Simple and cost effective to utilise full length in shoe raises. Outer-sole shoe modifications are some times necessary. More common in people with total joint replacements and significant traumatic injuries or injuries involving growth plate disruption. Something we as podiatrists see a lot and get referred to for opinions on often.

11.01.2022 Diagnostic reasoning thoughts: Quote of the week from the a friend and Mentor Dr Neil Halpin: Investigate aggressively and treat conservatively I think this is a gem of a principle and something I try to keep in mind, particularly when faced with longer standing cases. ... Differentiation of diagnoses can be hard at foot level. And some times it’s just not that important or necessary to do so! One particular overuse injury we find this useful however is with: Tib post/ Tib ant Enthespoathy vs bone stress/joint injuries in the mid foot. It can be Challenging when mild to differentiate clinically. This is a scenario when ruling out red flags and utilising imaging relatively early in the diagnostic phase of care is often considered. This part of the foot has a few structures close together and pain history of a tendon or a bone stress injury can easily overlap and sound similar. When persistent and not settling with routine evidence based therapies investigate more aggressively unique and rare conditions or findings are called those things for a reason, however they are often too missed or undiagnosed for too long. Any colleagues wanting to put in their two cents please do. That’s all

05.01.2022 Fractured toes! Do they matter? Don’t they just settle by themselves?... Like usual, the answer is... Sometimes Not all fractures are equal, and therefore of course not all rehabilitation strategies should be the same!

05.01.2022 Who to see? How to decide who to see for something? Is it aligned values? Recommendations from friends and family? A good website? ... Here’s a couple of thoughts of a few of the criteria for how I think about it.
