09.01.2022 With an epic Federer & Nadal match tonight, lets talk about TENNIS ELBOW. Tennis elbow is one of the most common injuries that osteopaths treat but more often... than not, its not always tennis that actually causes it. Its a type of repetitive strain injury (RSI) and develops when you repetitively overload the tendons of the elbow through motions such as heavy-lifting, typing, twisting or sports. It can happen to gym junkies, new mums, carpenters, desk workers - anyone! The best way to prevent tennis elbow is to stretch and strengthen your arm muscles. Also, always use equipment appropriate for your ability, body size, and body strength.

09.01.2022 In the office where desk work is more common, there are the dangers of computer hump and mouse wrist, headaches and carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel s...yndrome is a painful disorder of the hand caused by pressure on nerves that run through the wrist. Symptoms include numbness, pins and needles, and pain. Osteopathic manipulative medicine can be invaluable in diagnosing and managing carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Combined with a patients history and a standard physical examination, an osteopathic structural examination can facilitate localizing the nerve entrapment, diagnosing CTS, and monitoring the disease process. 08.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE We are OPEN and here to help at this difficult time! We have escalated our already stringent hygiene and cleaning protocols and are adhering to social distancing recommendations in our common areas.... We have adapted our opening hours to limit the number of people in the practice. We also offer patients the ability to wait outside when they arrive at the clinic and we will call you, so you can enter directly into the treatment room. We understand that social distancing is important and your pain and comfort is also our priority. At this time the Australian Government considers allied health an "essential" service. It is important we help to support the load of our amazing local GP's at this difficult time. Should you be forced to self isolate or have any cold and flu symptoms or are in a high risk category, please call to discuss a phone or video consultation on 0432866559. You can also contact me by email [email protected] Please take care and stay healthy! Anna Steinhaus Osteopath Bsc D.O.

08.01.2022 Gout is one of the four most common forms of arthritis. It is caused by a build-up of uric acid in the bloodstream. Arthritis is common condition that can affect people of all ages. Arthritis affects the muscles, bones and joints and usually involves inflammation of one or more joints.

08.01.2022 Tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon and usually occurs due to overuse. Tendons are bands of strong connective tissue that attach muscle to bone. The most com...mon symptom of tendonitis is pain that is dull and aching, sharp and burning or radiating. Recovery from tendonitis is often lengthy. Your osteopath will work with you to determine the cause of your tendonitis and decide on a course of treatment. Osteopaths may help your tendonitis by: - Identifying the cause such as poor sporting technique and postural imbalances. - Reducing muscular tension and increasing blood flow to the affected tendon via soft tissue massage and stretching. - Creating a management plan to improve healing time, reduce pain and ultimately a return to normal activity. 05.01.2022 People are often unable to disassociate spine and hip movement. This exercise is great as the individual starts in a controlled stable position and self-select...s their own movement range. Loss of control will result in the water bottle falling off your back. Heath Williams, Osteopath. We should all be able to separate the movement of joints of the body. For example, move your wrists separately from your elbows, or your neck independently from shoulder girdles. Often annoying aches and pains and general poor movement can come from an inability to do this. Hip rotation plays an important role in many movements in the lower body. Learning to rotate the hip independently of spinal movement can go a long way to helping reduce the chance of injury or simply reduce the tightness you might experience in your lower back.
