22.01.2022 Indigenous women have already been badly hit by the COVID-19 lockdown. Being unable to transport their produce and access markets has led to increasing poverty and hunger in their communities, said Judy Pasimio, coordinator at LILAK, Indigenous women’s right organisation. LILAK, has mobilised a local women’s network of trained emergency responders to lead their communities in the aftermath of Typhoon Goni that struck the Philippines last week. ActionAid is working with LILAK to provide emergency relief to help rebuild homes and provide essential food support, water, hygiene kits and blankets. The network is also using SMS messages to send out vital public health information and updates on COVID-19 and tropical storms to help keep hard to reach communities safe!

05.01.2022 The climate emergency persists and is wreaking havoc, said climate negotiator Yeb Saño in response to Typhoons Goni and Molave that devastated communities across Vietnam and the Philippines last week. The Philippines and Vietnam are among the most prepared nations for the tropical storm season, with effective early warning systems and life-saving evacuation plans. But climate disasters like these are increasing in intensity and frequency. Typhoon Molave alone will cost Viet...nam $430 million in economic losses. Yet the global community continues to come up short when it comes to supporting the countries on the frontline of the climate crisis. As we mark the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement this year, rich countries must step up and take action on climate change.
