24.01.2022 Adélia is one of 50 women who have started raising ducks as part of a new activity with female-led households in #Mozambique, supported by United Purpose and #AustralianAid. Women's associations elected to focus on ducks because of their nutritional and market value. After training in poultry farming and husbandry, Adélia is anticipating her first brood of ducklings, which she plans to share with other members of the association. I was very happy to receive ducks. The proje...ct is now helping us to have meat on the table, said Adélia. I will do everything to ensure the ducks have good reproduction as a way of guaranteeing that I can pass them on to other women so they can have ducks, too. 21.01.2022 HAPPY VIETNAM NATIONAL DAY! CHÚC MNG NGÀY QUC KHÁNH VIT NAM! Best wishes to our Vietnamese friends. We know the celebrations will look very different than usual due to the latest wave of COVID, but we hope you're able to take some joy from this day. We're thinking of you! <3

20.01.2022 In Malawi, we’re working with The Face-to-Face Project to teach families how to grow victory gardens, which produce a range of vegetables for healthy meals. So far, we've helped families establish over 9,000 gardens, and local clinics in Phalombe are reporting a decline in malnutrition rates. In Lilongwe, we’re also working with village savings groups. With income from their victory gardens and other micro-enterprises, the groups have increased their average savings from $1,000 to $11,000 per year, giving members greater financial security and opportunity. #ActiononPoverty

19.01.2022 ZIMBABWE // When #COVID19 forced the Makosa Farmers’ Association into lockdown, they could no longer travel to the markets they relied on for their income. The group quickly pivoted to raising chickens to make up the shortfall, with support from the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (#ANCP) and Community Technology Development Trust/Organisation. The group has now raised over 300 chickens, which fetch good prices locally. They have used their profits to buy 11 bags of ferti...liser for the upcoming farming season. We had always wanted to venture into a project to raise money to pay for school fees, groceries, and farming inputs for our families, said Mwanawashe Debe, group chairperson. We have not looked back. 17.01.2022 Arminda has gained a strong reputation for her nutritious sweet potatoes in Macate District, #Mozambique, where AOP and United Purpose are working with vulnerable households to increase food security and income. As you can see, we are harvesting sweet potatoes. Every day that we harvest, people come here to buy. They already know us as quality sweet potato suppliers. This helps us a lot because we don’t need to travel to sell in other districts and run the risk of being on ...the street," says Arminda. "We will continue to produce more, because sweet potatoes are good for our health, for our eyes, and for the health of our children. This food cannot be lacking in our homes. This project is supported by #AustralianAid through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (#ANCP). #ActiononPoverty | Australian High Commission in South Africa

09.01.2022 AOP is working with CWCC to educate vulnerable women and girls on how to run their savings groups and small businesses safely during the pandemic. For example, Chantou* runs a sewing business and has equipped her store with hand sanitiser and mandated that her customers wear masks and follow social distancing. Similarly, Siev, who runs a women’s savings-and-loans group, is taking members’ temperatures and distributing sanitiser at monthly meetings. Siev is also focusing on ...maintaining high levels of motivation among her group. If a woman is in trouble and discouraged, she will fail, she said. Being smart about prevention methods and hygiene will uplift my community. *Name has been changed #ActiononPoverty #AustralianAid #ANCP | Australian Embassy, Cambodia

09.01.2022 With support from the SMEC Foundation, farmers’ cooperatives in South Gondar, #Ethiopia will soon have two new facilities to store high-quality potato seed. Each facility can store up to 200 tonnes of potato seed, increasing seed availability for local farmers. With access to drought- and disease-resistant seed at affordable prices, farmers will be able to produce more potatoes, improve household nutrition, and increase their incomes at market. Thank you to Vita Ireland an...d to the seed cooperatives for helping us implement this exciting project! 02.01.2022 55 households participating in our tourism project in Hoa Binh, Vietnam, have pivoted to agriculture to make up for income lost due to the pandemic. They are now selling 500kg of fish and shrimp in Hanoi each week. This has been so profitable that they want to maintain the model in tandem with their tourism businesses, once travel opens up again. This project is supported by Irish Aid and by the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (#ANCP). Australian Embassy, Vietnam | #IrishAid #PartnershipsForRecovery #ActiononPoverty
