24.01.2022 The Perth Inferno, on fire and readying for the resumption of play ... at Cockburn Ice Arena (https://www.cockburnicearena.com.au/) in Perth. This twin sheet facility has some of the best ice in the southern hemisphere. Their facilities are first class ... an example we will want to see followed at the new twin-sheet ice sports facility in Canberra! ping Cockburn Ice Arena
23.01.2022 There was some concern about the future of the Erina ice rink on NSW's central coast when it closed, along with parts of the shopping centre of which it is a part, for major cladding and other refurbishments. Well the good news is the rink re-opens in the new year! One day we'll be celebrating the opening of a new twin-sheet ice sports facility in Tuggeranong (Canberra) ... a celebration for the ages.
22.01.2022 Sometimes we just need a little help from our (little) friends. John Guzik got exactly that from his 4 year old friend Ellie Mitchell who helped him lace his skates before hitting the ice tonight! Pictured: Ellie helping John lace his skates - while dressed in her unicorn pajamas.
20.01.2022 Wayne Caldwell, Holiday On Ice, undated (1960s). Wayne developed in Melbourne and performed in many of the ice shows directed by Nancy Hallam for ABC in the 19...50s and ‘60s. The 1962 Australian Pair Champion performed with Holiday On Ice for 7 years, touring South America and all over Europe. He also worked in the Casa Carioca in Germany. He landed a lead role in an Ice Extravaganza in South Africa, then returned home to Ice Follies of 1973, and others. Well-known for his character roles, including Merlin the Magician, Caldwell married the English adagio skater, Christine Jarvis. On their return to Australia in the early 70s, the couple coached at Ringwood Iceland in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, and directed its Ice Revues. 18.01.2022 Parking patrols at the new twin-sheet ice sports facility will be on the look-out for these informal "clubs" setting themselves up in the car lot. Not sure whether it'll be partners waiting for their other halves' skating lessons to conclude, their hockey game to finish, or their broomball championship to end!

17.01.2022 This is what a functional but not fancy 2500-seater ice rink looks like ... nice job The Skating Club of Boston! One day Canberra's new twin-sheet ice sports facility will share photos of its new build, too. https://www.bostonherald.com//new-home-for-skating-club-o/
17.01.2022 Have you ever wondered how ice hockey statistics are collected, collated, analysed and put to good use? Oh, you have trouble finding reliable sources for stats in ice hockey leagues down under? Here's someone who's helping change all that. It would be wonderful to have this sort of expertise developed in Canberra for the new twin-sheet ice sports centre. https://sirensport.com.au//grumpily-forcing-grassroots-d/
17.01.2022 Women’s ice hockey in the day!
17.01.2022 Yeah, nah; we'll stick with the new twin-sheet ice sports facility in Tuggeranong (Canberra). It's much closer! https://www.realcommercial.com.au//most-viewed-tassie-ice-
17.01.2022 There are some classic scenes in these pix. In a sense, they could remind people of the jubilation and celebration in the confined space that are the Phillip spectator area. On the other hand, for designers and architects of the new twin-sheet ice sports facility in Canberra, one photo of a hand-rail extending into the ice surface playing area shows how it's NOT done in this day and age.
14.01.2022 Thank you (ice) hockey.
14.01.2022 These photos appeared in a national magazine one month before the resumption of the first Goodall Cup after the Second World War. They give some idea of how the... game was played here nearly 75 years ago. According to state secretary Jack Paton, NSW had 250 players back then, and Victoria had 150. 12.01.2022 BORN IN 1926 AT CARLTON in Melbourne’s inner city, the only child of Mary Sylvia McNamara and Francis Joseph Dockrey, her friends knew her as Sandy. A good frie...nd of both Pat Argue and Nancy Hallam, Sandy developed her skating at Melbourne Glaciarium, then at 21 went to England, finishing a 15-year skating career with Holiday on Ice Europe. The ice show had units on five continents, sometimes two in Europe in the early 60s. Returning to Melbourne, Sandy worked as a secretary at an oil production company. In 1969, she applied for secretarial work with a construction company in Papua New Guinea. She met her husband, John Dickerson Ellis, and they married in Port Moresby, New Guinea in 1971. The couple spent the next 13 years on job sites in South France, Australia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. They finally settled in San Antonio, Texas. Sylvia Dockrey (Ellis) passed away there at 92 on December 31st 2018. She was among the first Australian girls to pursue a skating career overseas. ______ With special thanks to Ann Tregear.
11.01.2022 Everyone in ACT's ice sports community gets this, we're sure!
11.01.2022 Ever wondered what ice speed skates look like? Here ya go ... hopefully the pro shop at the new twin-sheet ice sports facility in Tuggeranong (Canberra) will have a range of skates: figure, speed, hockey and "pleasure" as well as broomball shoes and rubber grippers for curling.
11.01.2022 Virtual bonspiels! We hope to see curling join the ice sports community in Canberra when the new twin-sheet ice sports facility is built in Tuggeranong. ping Australian Curling Federation
11.01.2022 Everyone has ability. It's about how we make those opportunities possible.
09.01.2022 Who'd like this as a mural somewhere inside the new twin-sheet ice sports facility in Tuggeranong (Canberra)?

07.01.2022 This delightful picture would make a beautiful wall painting in the new twin-sheet ice sports facility in Tuggeranong (Canberra)!
06.01.2022 While Phillip's ice rink is coming along nicely -- there is a video on the IHACT community FB page posted by manager John Raut of the newly painted slab and refurbished boards (all of which means making ice is only a heart beat away!) -- here's a quick video look at Olympic ice rink in Oakleigh (Melbourne) which has undergone major refurbishments ... right back to the pipes, boards, seating and lighting. Fantastic make-over of a rink first opened in 1971. ping Olympic Ice Skating Centre via Peter South https://www.skypixel.com//look-at-this-amazing-piece-i-sho
04.01.2022 "At a time when women’s ice hockey is on the rise, the terrible viewing experience of a doorbell camera style video feed and then straight up cancelling the U/18 women's world championship tournament itself severely inhibits the exposure of the game. If new fans can’t see the games, if youth players don’t see something to strive for, if the media can’t show highlights, how can the sport expect to continue its growth?" Some very good points here for women's ice hockey supporters ... and there are many of them who'll be skating, coaching, officiating and "fanning" the women's game at the new twin-sheet ice sports centre in Canberra. https://www.theicegarden.com//the-iihfs-u18-womens-world-c
04.01.2022 For any ice hockey families out there -- current or aspirational! (via Dave Boyer) If you give a child an ice hockey puck, they will want a hockey stick to go with it. You’ll buy them the best stick you can find, and they will probably want a helmet, gloves, and skates to go with it. They will probably spend hours begging you to go outside in the driveway to play with them, even though you may want to sit on the couch and watch TV, or waste time online. They will insist. And ...this insistence will win. And then they get a jersey; they will need socks and suspenders to go with it. And a TEAM..And then life as you know it will end. There will be no more lazy weekends watching TV. You will see more sunrises than you ever thought possible. Every spare minute of your time will be spent hauling bags and stinky gear and crazy kids all over the nation for hours to practice for a game. THE GAME. And your house will be a mess. And your car will be dirty. All because you gave a child a hockey puck. Your weekends will be spent freezing in an ice rink. And their weekends will be spent gaining confidence and friends, and learning new skills and having fun and getting sweaty. So sweaty in fact that you will have to learn how to do laundry in a whole new way, like maybe at a car wash using the pressure washer. And you will be there the day they score their first goal, get their first assist and kill a penalty by blocking shots. And they will make you SO proud. The other parents will congratulate you. But you feel weird saying thank you because it's not you on the ice or on the penalty kill: it's them. They did this. And right before your eyes, your little child will be transformed from the baby who spun around with their skates on the ice (because they love attention), into one of the best ice hockey players you’ve ever seen. When you give a child a hockey puck, you give them more than just a puck. You give them a sport, and talent, and hope, and dreams, and friends, a new family, a place to learn about life, room to grow as a person where they can push their limits, and bravery, and courage and LIFE, and memories. And they will have ALL of these things, simply because you gave a child a hockey puck. Because you gave a child a hockey puck, you too will develop new and lifelong friendships, developed solely from the same passion for the game and love of your team. You will cheer together. And repeat PG-13 sayings together: because you gave a child a hockey puck. Then one day, many years from today.they will be in their room and a puck will roll out from an old dusty hockey bag underneath their bed. And they will pick it up and realise instantly that when you gave that child a hockey puck, you also gave them a childhood that they would never forget. And then they will hug you, and your eyes may leak because you realise that everything you gave up along the way..was worth it! All because you gave a child a hockey puck.
04.01.2022 Somewhere on a pond ... somewhere cold ... somewhere beautiful! (It's in Aklavik [a hamlet in the Inuvik Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada] last week.)
