23.01.2022 The piriformis muscle is found deep in your buttock and when it gets tight can lead to pressure on the sciatic nerve (which runs down the back of your thigh). Try this stretch for size: 1. Lie on your back with one knee pulled up to your chest 2. Draw the knee across the body towards the opposite shoulder 3. To add in a gentle spine stretch, allow the hips to move, gently twisting through the spine... 4. Hold the stretch for 45-60 seconds 5. Relax and repeat 3-5 times, making sure to do both sides Contact Activecarephysio at Capalaba 3823 5423 and Chermside on 3350 2622 if you need our help :)................. #physio #physiotherapy #piriformisstretch #piriformis

20.01.2022 Physio creams that help to soothe muscle pain include active ingredients which work as an anti-inflammatory. These help to reduce inflammation which can be a common source of pain. At Activecarephysio we stock Flexall gel. However, not everyone needs this type of cream and we always recommend you chat to your Physio to see if it would help. If you do use a cream, we also recommend that these creams be used alongside your treatment. Do you need to book in an appointment? 14.01.2022 Are you spending more time at your home office than usual? If so, then you might find this stretch of the muscles at the base of the skull helpful to relieve neck tension and the headaches that come with it! The best part? You can do it from the comfort of your own home (naturally!). 1. Sit with your head in a neutral position and shoulders relaxed. 2. Gently tuck your chin backwards and inwards, while drawing the back of your head upwards towards the ceiling (like a head nod...). 3. Add in a side-bend or turn your head left or right to in-crease the stretch. 4. Hold for 30 seconds, return to neutral and repeat a few times to each side. Remember to breathe! You should feel the stretch along the back of your neck and at the base of the skull. Try to do this simple neck stretch a few times each day if you have increased screen time during isolation. If this is not enough make sure you give us a ring at activecarephysio to fix your text neck .......................... 13.01.2022 The piriformis muscle is a pear-shaped muscle found deep in the buttock. It attaches to the sacrum at one end and the femur at the other end. This muscle helps us turn our leg outwards when our legs are down and straight, like when we stand. Get this though When we bring our knees up towards the ceiling, the function of this muscle reverses and it becomes an inward rotator! When this muscle gets tight or injured, it can press on the sciatic nerve that passes close to it, le...ading to pain and possible tingling or numbness in the buttock and down the back of the thigh - a condition called piriformis syndrome. Are you experiencing any odd sensations in your leg or buttock? Let us know and well check that your piriformis (and surrounding areas) are happy and functioning well!
