24.01.2022 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Australia. This month of awareness provides an opportunity for us all to focus on breast cancer and its impact on those affected by the disease in our community. Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Australian women (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer). Survival rates continue to improve in Australia with 89 out of every 100 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer now surviving five or more years beyond diagnosis. ... Nine out of ten breast changes aren't due to cancer, but it’s important to see a doctor to be sure. If you find a breast change that is unusual for you, see your GP without delay. BreastScreen Australia offers free breast screening for women without symptoms aged 50-74, when screening has the greatest potential to prevent deaths from breast cancer. Women aged 40-49 and 75 years and older who have no breast cancer symptoms or signs are also eligible for free screening mammograms. For more information visit https://www.bcna.org.au/ See more

09.01.2022 Our own qualified GP, Debbie Carrington, has passed her IBCLC exam and we are very excited to announce that Portland now has our own Lactation Consultant. This is fantastic news for not only Debbie and AHP, but for the whole community.

09.01.2022 AHP has adopted new protocols to ensure everyone remains safe from COVID. As of Friday, September 3, there will be a dedicated staff member set up at our front door to screen patients. We will allow 4 people into the waiting room and if the waiting room is full you will be asked to wait elsewhere. The new measures are in place to ensure AHP retains its Covid free status and continues to provide Medical Services to Portland during these difficult times.... We would like to highlight to everyone the importance of advising us of any respiratory symptoms, even if small, before you see your GP. Patients with symptoms can still be seen by a doctor but will need to be consulted in our isolation room. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, however we see no other option to best protect our staff and other members of the community.

03.01.2022 R U OK?Day is Thursday 10 September 2020. It’s a national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs. The focus for this year is about learning what to say after ‘are you ok?’. 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. In the lead-up to the 10th of September, R U OK? is releasing resources to help Australians know what to say when someone says they’re not OK and to guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life. 02.01.2022 We acknowledge the confusion around our original posts. The posts have since been removed and replaced in order to clarify the intent and address any concerns. The intent of our post was purely to notify the community of our new protocol. AHP has not had anyone in the clinic that has been infected with Covid 19 and this new protocol is in place to ensure this continues to be the case. ... We trust your comments will respect the best intentions of the practice to protect all members of the community Thank you

01.01.2022 World Diabetes Day (WDD) was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes. World Diabetes Day became an official United Nations Day in 2006 and is marked every year on the 14th of November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922. Diabetes is a serious complex condition which can affect the entire body. Diabetes requires daily self care and if complications develop, diabetes can have a significant impact on quality of life and can reduce life expectancy. While there is currently no cure for diabetes, you can live an enjoyable life by learning about the condition and effectively managing it. For more information visit https://worlddiabetesday.org/
