24.01.2022 With the current concerns about COVID-19, we would like to reassure our clients that we are taking all possible measures to ensure the clinic is cleaner than ever before. 1. All clients are asked if they have any symptoms, and/or if they have been overseas in the last 2 weeks. If they have, their appointments have been postponed. 2. All surfaces in the waiting area and physio rooms are being cleaned and disinfected after each session and towels are being changed regularly thr...oughout the clinic. 3. Hand sanitiser is provided inside our treatment rooms and at the front desk. Please make sure to make use of this on arrival and departure of the clinic. 4. Social distancing measures means we are temporarily abandoning the handshake. We are now using fist bumps and foot shakes . In addition to this you will most likely smell disinfectant through the clinic which is being used regularly throughout the day It is our priority to keep you and our country safe

23.01.2022 How frustrating is it when your shoulder is sore after every set? It's a very common complaint from my clients It can be due to irritation of the biceps tendon, especially after a lot of bench pressing or overhead pressing volume.... Rest usually helps with the acute symptoms but the pain often returns If this is the case for you, have a look at your biomechanics. Only then can you train pain-free.

20.01.2022 Lifting with an over-extended lumbar spine is dangerous It's one position our body resorts to when the weight is too heavy If you've ever seen someone do a max effort plank hold, you know what I mean.... When you can't generate intra-abdominal pressure and lose control of the back-pelvis-hip connection, this is where your body can compensate by arching excessively and "lock in" your lower back. It's a false sense of stability. Some athletes use a weight belt for this reason too. The "Dead Bug" drill is a good way to control your spinal position. Keep your back and pelvis still while you reach with your arms and legs.

19.01.2022 Does your left hip pinch while squatting? Squats require a lot of mobility of the pelvis, hips, knees and ankles. It also requires a lot of strength and control. Although you're feeling pain in the front of the left hip, this is rarely the cause of the issue. ... If you've done a ton of mobility work on the hip and still have the same problem, you are doing something wrong! Can you remember when you started to get the pinch? What happened around that time? Did you have another bump or injury prior to that? Your injury history matters to piece the puzzle together

17.01.2022 There is a lot we do not know about tendinopathy, but there are some inalienable truths that you should know as a clinician and patient... Truth #1 Tendinopathy often does not improve with rest the pain may settle but returning to activity is often painful again because rest does nothing to increase the tolerance of the tendon to load.... 14.01.2022 Did your GP recommend a cortisone injection for your shoulder bursitis? Some people think that they are a magical cure for shoulder pain that they've had for years and years. (They are NOT)... I've seen many clients get relief from these injections... at least temporarily Ignore your biomechanics and you're stuck in a pain cycle of ongoing shoulder pain I always address the biomechanical cause of why my clients develop their pain/symptoms.For shoulder pain, it's often an issue of poor strength/mobility of the shoulder-blade and ribcage. Restore proper function and you'll have pain-free and optimal function for life.

10.01.2022 Can't feel your glutes activate? One simple tip: Keep your weight over your midfoot (NOT your heels) as you reach your hips back during your squats and deadlifts... Reposted from @activtherapycasula

09.01.2022 "Knees out!" You might be hurting yourself if you're squatting like this It can cause you to place too much pressure on the outside of your foot, leading to an unstable base to lift from.... It can also cause excessive pressure on the lateral knee structures, giving you outer knee pain and ITB issues Ask your coach or trainer to assess you properly to make sure you're squatting and moving safely!

09.01.2022 Did you know? It's Bring Your Pup to Physio Day! @polishizzy

05.01.2022 Ever wonder why your bench press is weaker than your other lifts? There can be many reasons and everybody is different, but the most common is being stronger on one side than the other. This is you If you’ve ever said one arm is stronger than the other or you have a good side and a bad side... Fix your imbalance by including unilateral exercises. Start off with a Single-Arm Dumbbell Press on your weak side Tag a friend who benches like our mate in the picture! Repost: @activtherapydural

04.01.2022 On the weekend we were lucky enough to take a Pilates class with the best in the business @pilatesbyvds . In the presence of injury or trauma, your body will compensate and move inefficiently to avoid pain and discomfort. . Pilates is about learning how to move well with your body in a way that is safe, fun and therapeutic.... . You also may get some rock hard abs and glutes as well!! See more

01.01.2022 **Gents, please stop driving with your wallet in your back pocket!!** Nerves don’t like to be compressed, and driving with your super-thick wallet in your back pocket is a great way to compress the sciatic nerve! You can then get pins and needles or tingling into the back of your leg... Think of your nerves like a garden hose if you step on it, the water will have a tough time flowing through it. So keep your wallet somewhere else while driving and keep your nerves (and cards) safe! Reposted from @activtherapydural
