21.01.2022 Good afternoon everyone! At Acuworks, we like to look at things from a Western medical and Eastern medical point of view when assessing and diagnosing. This article does a great job in explaining the effects of coffee on fat storage within our bodies but we love the fact it mentions it can affect our digestive system as well as our sex hormones.... "To summarise, the direct link between caffeine and body fat storage is via insulin (from the spike in glucose that adrenaline drives) and the persistent presence of adrenaline leading to a spike in the other fat storage hormone, cortisol." Very interesting read, so please check it out when you get a chance. https://www.bodyandsoul.com.au//357adb435f965d5fe8eb8424ab Does this mean you shouldn't drink coffee? No, but it should be in moderation :) - Acuworks

15.01.2022 Hey everyone, In Chinese medicine, there is a concept of overwork which over a longer period of time drains the body and "consumes" the "bodily fluids" like blood. Blood is considered "Yin" as it is a physical substance and consumption of the relative levels leads to an imbalance in the body of more "Yang". Yang is more "heat" in nature and can further dry out the body manifesting is dry lips, skin, brittle hair/nails etc.... In the case of eczema, it manifests in red, hot and dry itchy skin and the goal in Chinese medicine is to nourish the "blood", clear the "heat" and hence restore the Yin/Yang balance within the body. This imbalance is one of the more common ways it manifests. This article shows a busy woman who is constantly working and doing activities, possibly without longer periods of rest leading to an imbalance. Stress is another big factor which slowly etches away causing an imbalance. But this doesn't explain eczema in children who are born with the condition or develop it when early on right? These children are born with a constitutional imbalance, they may also have poorer tolerances to stress which can aggravate the condition. For some children, they will "grow" out of the condition as the imbalance diminishes. We can't vouch for a "cure" but we can definitely help with the signs and symptoms associated with stress which can lead to remission or a much easily manageable point. Why not give acupuncture or Chinese medicine a go? https://www.news.com.au///496ed22eb8f79d6e7a3537c4ae6b8d37 To make a booking, give us a call on 02 9476 2835 or conveniently book online: https://acuworks.cliniko.com/bookings#service Have an awesome week! - Acuworks

07.01.2022 Hi everyone, It's always good to see mainstream media talking about acupuncture. This time it's about the use of a comb on reducing labour pains.... "When gripped in your hands, a comb can help hit acupuncture points in your hands helping your body forget about the contractions, the post said. According to the company, the comb plays into the gate control pain theory. This theory states that the brain can only focus on a select number of sensations at once, it said. Because the nerve ending on your hands are closer to your brain, they reach your brain faster." In China, acupuncture has been used to turn babies not in breech position (head down), labour induction, reduction in labour pain and time. Of course here in Australia, it is unlikely to do acupuncture whilst the mother is in labour at the hospital, so can only be done before. If you're pregnant or know any pregnant mother's who need some assistance, why not give acupuncture a go? https://www.news.com.au///91c4942b28220505ecd21556d5bb3973 - Acuworks
