15.01.2022 Today is National Police Remembrance Day and services are being held all over our region. This year, even though the services are smaller and different, it does not diminish our responsibility to reflect and remember the sacrifice of those who have lost their lives to keep us safe. The National Police Memorial at Kings Park in Canberra will be one such ceremony. On the Memorial are touchstones that display the names and details of those police officers who have given their ...lives in the service of their communities. Sadly, this year we see four touchstones presented for blessing. The touchstones to be blessed today are in honour and memory of Constable Glen HUMPHRIS, Victoria Police, 22 April 2020 Senior Constable Kevin KING, Victoria Police, 22 April 2020 Constable Josh PRESTNEY, Victoria Police, 22 April 2020 Leading Senior Constable Lynette TAYLOR, Victoria Police, 22 April 2020 ACWAP acknowledges these Victoria Police officers who have given their life following a horrific traffic crash, leave behind families, partners, friends, colleagues and communities who will suffer enduring pain and loss. Through their commemoration and instatement on this memorial, their legacy, service and sacrifice will be remembered. The addition of these four touchstones will bring the total of touchstones on the wall to 798. ACWAP also remembers the families and friends of our New Zealand Police colleague Constable Matthew HUNT New Zealand Police 19 June 2020. Constable HUNT was fatally shot during an incident in Massey. What should have been a routine traffic stop was a devastating loss of a colleague and friend. Today ACWAP also remember the families, friends and colleagues of our policing partners in Fiji and Papua New Guinea who have lost their own this year. Constable Siuta NUIMATAIWALU Fiji Police Force October 2019 Sergeant David HALE Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary 15 October 2019 Constable Timot KAVANAMUR Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary 26 January 2020 Senior Constable John PATILIU Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary 24 July 2020 Senior Inspector Andrew TOVERE Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary 02 May 2020 Thank you for your service, we will always remember.
