24.01.2022 One of the most adorable little knobbies I've seen - this small subadult Pilbara smooth knob-tailed gecko (Nephrurus levis pilbarensis) was the epitome of cute! I found and photographed him among the dunes and spinifex outside Port Hedland - their preferred habitat. Was no doubt chasing spiders and other invertebrate prey to chomp on! But what a cutie! <3

22.01.2022 AMAZING FROG EYES! Frogs around the world have extraordinary looking eyeballs - they range from various positions around the head from top, side and forward facing. Most have intricate patterns and colours that make up the iris, some of which can really take your breath away! Many frogs, such as this Northern Burrowing frog (Neobatrachus aquilonius) actually use their eyeballs to help them swallow food down. The eyes literally force food down into their bellies by rolling ...back into their head and down a portion of the back "pushing" the food down as they go :) And each eye typically gives them 180 degree field of vision! Pretty cool hey?! :P See more

21.01.2022 A little earlier this year and a good mate and I hit the road on a 12 hour road cruise for reptiles toward Millstream and the last snake we found was this absolutely stunning Stimson's python (Antaresia stimsoni) cruising around the rocky baseline near one of a few waterways through there. This lovely pale morph is seldom seen in the PIlbara (every other stimmy that night was your more standard garden variety) - so this was the only one we actually bothered to photograph as they are an extremely common species out here! ;)

20.01.2022 Well, I haven't posted a landscape in a little while and in all honesty - I just don't shoot enough of them as I'm always distracted by our amazing wildlife. But just for something different, here's one a took a couple of years ago with a good mate that came over to visit. And while not much in the way of wildlife was seen on this trip, it was a good trip nonetheless as road trips generally are no matter where you're going! ;) Shot from a secret location in the SW coastal r...egion :P Sugarloaf Rock Cape Naturaliste

20.01.2022 STUNNED MULLET! Moaning frogs (Heleioporus eyrei) are without a doubt the most derpy looking frogs you can come across. But they are such endearing looking little things and quite charismatic. And they will be the focus on a little movie I want to film highlighting these Winter breeding amphibians. I've been photographing these guys for ages and the reserve I frequent has a large population of them so it'll make a great location to shoot this movie. ... I'm excited to get started and to experiment with new media for me in videography to see with what I can come up with.Especially excited to try the wide angle macro lens effect in filming with the Laowa 15mm f4. 19.01.2022 Filming started on my little doco on the Moaning frog last night - it was a soggy night down at the swamp lol But I was distracted by this little cutie! A small species of frog known as Rattling frogs (Crinia glauerti) - they only attain a size of about 2cm - come midwinter they'll be going off as their breeding season starts :P

17.01.2022 My first encounter with the magnificent Chameleon geckos (Carphodactylus laevis) of FNQ What amazing geckos and such cool animals to see in the wild - both geckos I found this night were photographed as we found them - both is nice positions in great habitat. This night will be stored in the old memory warehouse for years to come yet ;)

14.01.2022 SOUTH WEST SPINY-TAILED GECKO Strophurus s. spinigerus Such a great local species to find and see! ... And always a favourite to encounter when I'm out and about herping. Though reptile posts might be infrequent over the colder months - at least for new stuff. But there will be more content with winter subjects ;) Mu good mate Paul Irvine and I need to find a decent cluster of Ghost fungi this season to photograph ;) In the meantime, I'll revisit some of my slightly older image files and find hidden gems like this one :)

14.01.2022 SOLID UNIT Check out this solid unit of a frog! Found on a walk around Mount Lewis on my FNQ trip. The Carbine barred frog Mixophyes carbinensis This genus of frog belongs to Australia's largest ground frogs and they are indeed impressively sized as adults attaining around 8cm in length ... And check out those strong, powerful legs! They have webbed feet too so not only can they jump good distances but can make for water as well and swim quickly to safety :) Mount Lewis FNQ

14.01.2022 TURNING TAIL Western spiny-tailed geckos (Strophurus strophurus) are extraordinarily monotone against the reddened earth of our Midwest, Gascoyne and Goldfields regions. Their backs have scattered, cone shape tubercles down to tail. The tail itself is where a diagnostic feature of this gecko is seen and that is the pale/yellow connective tissue that is exposed when that tail is "turned" as pictured. Always a good find out in the field, these are gentle and intricately beaut...iful geckos Yalgoo - Western Australia See more

11.01.2022 LITTLE BROWN SPICE Haven't seen one of these in a little bit, shouldn't be too long before I see a few more around site. As temps cool during the dry season more diurnal snakes like this can be found. I photographed this individual with a few mates outside Port Hedland some time ago. Got this nice intimate portrait Ringed brown snake ... (Pseudonaja modesta) See more

11.01.2022 Still practicing my sub-standard filming capabilities on frogs up here at work for when I return home to attempt filming some of these little cuties as I flesh out the plan for my little film on our Winter breeding little Moaning frogs :) With the shots I want to get it should be an interesting (and wet) experience! :P Here I am with said subject Heleioporus eyrei

10.01.2022 FUN FUN POST :) This is for a good friend of mine, and soon to be "Doctor" Sophie from Suns Out, Squamata Out - Wildlife Photography These little geckos happen to be her favourite little things in the whole wide world :) (........I may have made that up) :P ... But here are some images for her so she remembers their distinguishing features again for when she can head out and find these wonderful little geckos again Gehyra variegata If you don't hear from me soon, it's a real possibility Sophie may have killed me :P P.S.: she knows I post this with all the affection I can muster lol

04.01.2022 BABY SNAKE!!! Who doesn't love baby animals right?! :P This particular one is a snake though so I do understand if he doesn't get too much love, because well he's a snake! But he got plenty of love from me because he was just too damn cute! <3... The snake is a Coppertail whip snake (Demansia reticulata cupreiceps) and this, as I mentioned before is a fresh as a daisy hatchling specimen! These are mildly venomous, slender lizard eaters that are very quick across the ground (as they have to be chasing Australia's small lizard species! My hand as a size comparison

02.01.2022 It’s still a tad cool up here at night so this Children’s python (Antaresia childreni) formally Stimsons python was cruising about. These small pythons are far more at home on solid ground Again using the massive deep parabolic softbox
