25.01.2022 Have you been to the public open space next to the Agonis building in the Gosnells CBD? It isn't a bad space, but it is almost surrounding with walls and there isn't really anything bring people there to enjoy the space. On Tuesday night, council will consider the tender for the upgrading of this space. The concept plan includes a misting feature, improved lighting and opening up the space so that it can be clearly seen from adjoining areas. What do you think? Do you ever go ...to the Gosnells CBD? If so, what takes you there? If not, what would encourage you to visit? Stay tuned for updates on the adjacent Lot 800 and the progress on Lissiman Street. #thisisourcity

23.01.2022 Nine all-abilities playgrounds, like the new Tom Bateman Reserve playground in Thornlie, will be developed over the next 2 years. For too long, families with children who have special needs have been forced to travel far and wide to find a playground for the whole family. This $4.2million project aims to fill that gap. This years budget includes the first of the nine playgrounds:... Thornlie Park, Thornlie Lexington Avenue Reserve, Canning Vale Langford Sporting Complex, Langford Sutherlands Park, Huntingdale Harmony Fields Play Area, Maddington The biggest all-abilities project is a $1 million facility at Mary Carroll Park in the heart of Gosnells. This will be one of the last parks to be constructed. The new Robinson Park in Gosnells also includes all-abilities equipment but construction is well underway. Let me know what you think. Will you or your family visit these parks? #thisisourcity
23.01.2022 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT Last night the City of Gosnells Council endorsed a change to the Cat Local Law 2014 that prohibits cats from specific areas in the City. The intention of this change is to enable the City to attempt to catch cats in environmentally sensitive areas in an effort to reduce feral cat numbers,... whilst being able to reunite registered pets that may be caught with their owners. For this reason, it will be accompanied by a campaign to encourage cat owners to register and microchip their cats. The areas chosen are highlighted in orange in the map below and are the Southern and Canning Rivers, as well as Mary Carroll Park and the Greater Brixton Street Wetlands. Please note that all cats, including registered cats, will be prohibited from these areas. Cats make amazing pets, but they are also killing machines in our environmentally sensitive areas. In my opinion, the City should be extending these prohibited areas over the next few years to our rural areas, forests, other wetland areas and bush forever sites. But this needs to be done right, by working with cat owners in these areas. For more information and the law in its entirety: https://bit.ly/3aZv4db #thisisourcity

22.01.2022 " FREE STERILISATION OF MOTHER CATS Did you know that a single unsterilised female cat and her offspring can produce MORE THAN 400,000 cats in their lifetime? " Please see the post below from Perth Rescue Angels for full details.
22.01.2022 What is happening at Hester Park in Langford? This is possibly the most stunning section of river in the city and is completely underutilised and seemingly ignored. The City of Gosnells has been seeking the support of the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) to develop the river park at Hester Park for many years. The river park development is proposed to be funded by the subdivision and sale of land along Spencer Road. The City has previously made an offer to the WA...PC to purchase the land and presented a business case to demonstrate that all of the profit generated from the subdivision would be invested in the Hester Park upgrade. So fingers and toes are crossed for some progress here! The WAPC will likely be considering this at their July meeting! If you havent been there before, Hester Park encompasses almost 50 hectares of the Djarlgarra (Canning River) foreshore and floodplain in Langford, immediately upstream of the Nicholson Road bridge. #thisisourcity Rita Saffioti MLA Bill Johnston MLA

21.01.2022 So what is happening with the Lissiman Street Precinct? The aim here is to create a bustling little area that reduces crime, promotes business and encourages transit oriented visitors. This parcel of land has been talked about for an awfully long time. But what has actually happened since October? October - December 2019: The Jacks Tools site was acquired by the City of Gosnells and the Minister for Transport, Planning and Lands, Rita Saffioti was briefed on the city's desir...e to improve the general area. January - March 2020: An arrangement was reached to purchase the Go Dental site. April - June 2020: In-principle agreement was reached to purchase the Chinese restaurant site. So what next? Once the lots in this area are all available, the city will seek expressions of interest for development. #thisisourcity

01.01.2022 Our City of Two Rivers is unique. The Canning and Southern Rivers should be better utilised and enhanced so that residents are drawn there. Unfortunately the vast majority of land surrounding the rivers is owned by the state government and not much seems to happen there. Tomorrow night, the City of Gosnells council will consider a policy for enhancing the Canning and Southern Rivers. This draft policy includes: The City will actively engage with State Government agencies, t...he Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group and other community groups, businesses, the education sector, volunteers and any relevant private landowner to protect and enhance the rivers and surrounding land. The City will support development or enhancement of areas along the Southern and Canning River foreshores that: - provide opportunities for the community to experience and enjoy the rivers; - enhance the environmental values of the two rivers; - sympathetically integrate river surrounds with adjoining urban developments; - provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to engage in active recreational pursuits; - enable active modes of transport including walking and cycling; - provide opportunities for cultural expression through public art; - encourage learning about river ecology, environment, history and heritage; - deliver opportunities for environmentally sensitive economic development; - beautify the rivers to attract visitors from across the metropolitan area and beyond. What do you think? How would you like to see your rivers enhanced? #thisisourcity
