25.01.2022 Todd from Adamstown Bowling Club gave me a tour of club’s renovations, thanks in part to the $12,500 that I as able to provide through the Stronger Community Gr...ants Program for a new disability bathroom. Finding ways to do business during a pandemic is challenging, but hats off to Todd who has managed to stay connected with his members and community. He’s been busy running online raffles, ensuring covid-safe practices, renovating the kitchen and working to improve disability access at the club. Thanks for showing me around Todd, the upgrades are terrific - enabling more people to enjoy this great asset in our community. I hope everyone gets a chance to get back on the green and pop in for a meal soon! #SupportLocal

20.01.2022 From Georgia Burns Our cars were broken into last night July 31. Not sure of what time this occurred. We live on Narara Road. My partner's work bag was stolen which contained a laptop and portable hard drive. We have reported this to the local police and have now installed surveillance cameras. This seems to be a frequent offense happening every couple of months. However usually we don't keep anything of value in ours cars for this reason. Has anyone else experienced trouble with break ins around our area?

13.01.2022 IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE FOR NEWCASTLE 8.20PM UPDATE FROM HUNTER NEW ENGLAND HEALTH: A new COVID-19 case has been confirmed in the Newcastle area today.... The new case is a male teenager, and we are continuing to investigate the source of his infection. Hunter New England Local Health District is urging anyone who attended St Pius X High School (Adamstown) on Monday 3 August to be on the lookout for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested immediately should any respiratory symptoms or fever occur. The school has been notified and will be closed to allow contact tracing and thorough cleaning to occur. The teenager caught the Number 26 bus (Hamilton to Adamstown) to school on Monday 3 August, at 8.20am. All people on the bus at this time will be required to isolate for 14 days and seek testing. He is also a team member of the Newcastle Jets under 15’s representative squad who played a soccer match against the Stanmore Hawks at Arlington Oval in Dulwich Hill on 1 August. The teenager’s team mates and the members of the opposing team are considered close contacts and will be required to isolate for 14 days. All close contacts of the teenager will be notified and required to isolate for 14 days. Hunter New England Health is still working to identify any further contacts or venues visited by the teenager, and additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available. It is vital people in the community continue to present for testing if experiencing symptoms to limit the spread of the virus. We urge everyone to please follow directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine, and maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing, coughing or sneezing into their elbow, and regularly washing their hands. COVID-19 TESTING CLINICS: Hunter New England Health continues to operate a number of COVID-19 clinics at hospitals in the Hunter region. The University clinic also continues to operate 8am to 4pm, seven days a week. Those wishing to be tested must contact the drive-through clinic on 4964 7497 during operating hours to arrange an appointment prior to attending. Children under the age of 5 are unable to be tested at this clinic and should attend their nearest ED or local GP so a full medical assessment can be undertaken. The 4Cyte Pathology’s COVID-19 clinic at Central Church Warners Bay (290 Hillsborough Rd) operates between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 11am Saturdays, and no booking is required. More information can be found on their website at www.medtechservices.net.au. Testing is also available through Laverty’s Adamstown Drive Through COVID-19 clinic (91 Victoria Street). The clinic operates between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday and 9am and 4pm Saturdays, and no booking is required. We have expanded our call centre capacity and the number of phone lines available to improve booking wait times for our community. If the clinic you are hoping to visit is busy, you can find other local options by visiting the NSW Health website or calling your GP. --- St Pius X High School at Adamstown will be closed on Thursday 6 August and Friday 7 August for deep cleaning as a student has tested positive for COVID-19. I have been in contact with Hunter New England Health this evening and will provide further details as soon as they are received.

10.01.2022 DOGS BITTEN BY SNAKES IN ADAMSTOWN Two dogs were bitten today by a poisonous snake in their backyard at Adamstown. The dogs are still receiving treatment to try and save them. The snake handler indicated that the snakes are coming out of the storm water drains to feed. He also indicated that he had received a few similar calls in the area lately. Very few snakes will attack unless provoked, so please keep an eye out and stay clear.
09.01.2022 A Tolling Ordeal Dear Here to Help, I recently drove interstate to visit a family member. I rang the tolling company to check I was still registered with them. ...I am hard of hearing and they speak very quickly in heavy accents and I couldn’t understand them. Finally, they hung up on me. I tried a couple of times, but it was always the same. I don’t know what to do. I can’t afford a fine. Thank you for your query. Sometimes it can be difficult to communicate with call centre staff, particularly when their performance is measured by how quickly they complete a call. There are a few options available to you. First, google the road and toll, for example sydney harbour bridge toll and you will see a list of who can levy the toll. (1) If you download the app, or go online, within 2-3 days of using the toll road, you can usually pay without incurring any additional fees. (2) You will also be able to find a complaints email address on the toll operator’s website. You can send them a quick email saying you are trying to pay your toll, but the call centre staff keep hanging up on you and you shouldn’t have to pay any additional fees. (3) There is a Toll Ombudsman. Ombudsmen have a great success rate. You can find their details here https://tollingombudsman.com.au/. Just email them and tell them what happened. It doesn’t have to be a long email. They have direct contact with someone senior in the tolling company and usually issues are resolved quickly. (4) If you have a smartphone, you can download a toll app which automatically knows when you are on a toll road and charges you the correct amount. That way, you don’t have to worry about dealing with the call centre next time. This article comes from my column entitled "Here to Help" in Hunter Local, July 2020 https://www.hunterlocal.com.au/. If you have an everyday problem just begging for a simple, real world solution, send it to "Here to Help" and let's see what we can achieve. Elaine Abery has a closet full of great ideas and empowering solutions. She’s also the Director of Unravelling Red Tape, a company dedicated to helping everyday people, not-for-profits and companies change the world through improved decision-making and legislation. #redtape #bureaucracy #simplesolutions

They didn't look old enough to own a licence. They were doubled up on a street bike. Neither had helmets on.
