17.01.2022 Did you know? #Musictherapy is a recognised and funded allied health service with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)? It is! The NDIS acknowledges ...that sufficient and high quality #evidence exists to support the use of music therapy for people with disabilities. Here are a few more important #facts about music therapy and the #NDIS. 1. NDIS clients can include a request for funding for music therapy services on their plan 2. Only music therapy clinicians who are current Registered Music Therapists with the AMTA (that's us!) are eligible to provide music therapy as a therapy service and early childhood intervention support under the NDIS 3. Sometimes, clients are denied access to NDIS funding for music therapy because of the spread of misinformation. AMTA is working hard to help NDIA staff and planners from other agencies get the knowledge they need to help our shared clients access the services they ask for. 4. Music therapy has been identified as a specific skill shortage profession in the disability sector. This means that more RMTs are needed to meet the demand! 5. Music therapy is positively changing the lives of people with a disability through the NDIS! Tag a friend, colleague, planner or organisation that needs to know more about music therapy and the NDIS, and head to www.austmta.org.au to find a Registered Music Therapist who can help you. 16.01.2022 Watch three-year old Carter, who has a learning disability and autism, in his music therapy session with Jo. Carter is often described as being "in his own world" and tends to plays independently. Music therapy offers Carter social interaction and helps to improve his attention span. Importantly, it also brings him joy! https://www.facebook.com//vb.1479100385/1028203334054248/

15.01.2022 Great Visual Activity for seeing how important it is to wash our hands properly. Possibly try it at home with your little ones, they will love the paint! Jess X

15.01.2022 Musical experiences produce desired neural activation patterns associated with emotional regulation (Moore, 2013). Therefore, participation in music t...herapy can facilitate the identification, expression and experience of emotions so that people who are unable to regulate their emotions can begin to identify and regulate their own emotional responses (Thaut & Wheeler, 2010). By developing a greater awareness of emotional responses through interactions in music therapy, an awareness of emotional experiences and interactions in other areas of life are likely to develop (Marik & Stegemann, 2016). Have you checked out the AMTA's FREE Music Therapy in Disability: Information Booklet'? https://www.austmta.org.au//music-therapy-disability-infor

14.01.2022 Growth Mind Set! The process of how we learn a song is just as important as the product. In Music Therapy clients explore trying, failing, practicing and eventually succeeding in desired musical goals. As confidence builds in this process, thinking in a growth mindset is encouraged in non-musical areas ( for example school based tasks and social environments). Let those brains grow!

10.01.2022 A nice article around why children find music such a motivating activity. "Children with autism are often inherently motivated to engage in musical experiences and it can often be a preferred medium to operate within. They thrive within structure and music. Non- invasively, music fulfills this need for structure and routine...."

08.01.2022 This is a great short documentary from the view points of fathers of children with ASD. Beautiful insights and reflections on their journeys.

03.01.2022 Well, this is exciting and long overdue news! "Provider news News 2 August 2019 Over the coming weeks, the NDIA is making changes to the NDIS myplace portal ...to improve the process where there may be a gap between new and old participant plans. The aim is to ensure participants will be able to receive services regardless of if there is a delay in the scheduled plan review process. It also means providers will continue to be able to claim for services while the participant prepares for a plan review. If you have any questions about your plan if it has been extended, please call the National Contact Centre on 1800 800 110 or contact your Local Area Coordinator or Planner."
