25.01.2022 For those of us who are finding it hard to get moving post the enforced limitations and lingering restrictions of the COVID19 crisis, WALKING IS STILL AN AWESOME OPTION! Dont find excuses in the weather ~ make your 30 minutes happen today!!

25.01.2022 AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE ADELAIDE CHIROPRACTIC CENTRE How things can change in 24 hours... According to Professor Nicola Spurrier of SA Health the best way to halt the current COVID19 outbreak in Adelaide is to pause SA for the next six days.... Adelaide Chiropractic Centre will participate in this brief halt. This evening we will be contacting everyone who has an appointment in the next six days to reschedule. We will return any messages left on our answering machine 08 8221 6262 or our email [email protected] when we return on Thursday 26th November. Stay safe and keep smiling, The Adelaide Chiropractic Centre Team, Tamara, Kathryn and Lorraine

25.01.2022 Were all staying home so much more than usual with COVID19 in our world. As a result almost every person who comes through our doors is suffering from an increase in sedentary behaviour. Its not necessarily the big stuff were not doing that is at issue (though that is a problem), its all the little stuff ~ the incidental movement that has been edited out of our days by COVID19. This lack of movement translates to stiff and achy joints. Lots of musculoskeletal issues that are usually managed by greater daily activity, exercise and maintenance care flair up. Many people are coming into our practice currently with this scenario being the source of their troubles. Moving more can ease these problems. Please, Sit less and move more!

25.01.2022 ***New Blog Post*** We know we should, but why? The latest research tells us: ~ Sit less! Move more!! ~ 5 x 30min/week (incl 2 sessions of resistance training)... ~ make time for exercise now or illness will steal your time later! 25.01.2022 Our bodies are built to MOVE! Research now shows sitting is not the evil we thought it was, however being sedentary is, so the big message is: MOVE MORE, SIT LESS!... The Australian Department of Health tells us all Australians need to adhere to this adage, but that high school aged teens and our over 65s are in need of even more encouragement on this front. If youd like to calculate just how much time you spend sitting each day use this online calculator: https://www.movemoresitless.org.au/sitting-calculator/ You may find the results a little sobering - and get off the bus a little earlier to get some more moving happening in your day!

13.01.2022 ***NEW BLOG POST*** Recent developments in science are telling us we need to re-think osteoarthritis (OA). The concept of cartilage wear and unavoidable steady deterioration towards surgical join replacement is the old way of thinking about OA.... The current science shows: OA is a whole body disease of low grade inflammation; resting cranky joints does you no favours in the long run; and surgery is not a done deal! 11.01.2022 This week is Skin Cancer Awareness Week. I have two things I want to mention here: 1. In Australia we are vulnerable to skin cancer. We need to be sensible on the sun exposure front. As Chiros we see parts of your skin that you don't see often yourself, so we keep an eye out for things that you need to run by your GP. We're part of the team, but please make good choices this summer - slip, slop, slap, seek shade and slide on some sunnies! 2. We need some of our skin to see th...e sun each day (albeit in a very limited way in Australia, especially in summer) for our body to make the Vitamin D we need to keep our bodies healthy. Vitamin D deficiency has body wide effects. As chiros we focus on two: poor bone quality causing osteoporosis and fractures; and back/bone/muscle pain (possibly because Vitamin D plays a role in the neurological mechanisms involved in chronic pain). If you want to read more about the Skin Cancer/Vitamin D conundrum please click on this link: https://bit.ly/3p45zOz If you want to know more about Vitamin D deficiency, keep an eye out for our upcoming blog @ https://www.adelaidechiropracticcentre.com.au/blog #skincancerawarenessweek #vitaminddeficiency #chiropracticcare

09.01.2022 Remembrance Day. Lest we forget....

07.01.2022 COVID19 has brought about a situation I usually see in mid to late summer. Its a little bizarre for me to be seeing this in winter, but it does make sense given the increased time we are all spending at home. In summer many of us wear unstructured shoes, thongs or bare feet a lot of the time. For those of us who need better arch support for our feet this can strain the joints in our feet and cause postural changes throughout the body. These people can come in with back pain,... neck pain and even headaches over and above pain in their feet. As were spending so much time at home currently were all spending more time in our ugg boots, slippers or socks. Comfy and warm, but also the epitome of unstructured foot wear! Accordingly, Im seeing the sequelae of poor arch support in winter. Its a whole lot of avoidable pain thats no fun for anyone. Maybe its time to wear some supportive sneakers around the house as they will tick the comfy box AND provide better support for the arches of your feet. If youre feeling achy at all, please give us a call on 8221 6262 and make a time for a checkup. #achyfeet #posture #headache #archsupport #BackPain #chiropractic

07.01.2022 ***WARNING*** Working from home has a lot of positives attached to it, but there is one BIG pitfall you must watch out for. People who are diligent, focused, passionate, engaged and loyal regarding their work are at risk!! Having full access to your work at home can tempt these people to work more than their agreed hours in the working week.... Even if they are remunerated for this overtime, they do not get that TIME back - the personal time that was supposed to be spent with loved ones, or exercising, or doing stuff to balance out their headspace... Weeks of doing this can have disastrous consequences for that persons health and wellbeing. PLEASE set boundaries for the hours spent working at home. Make those boundaries non-negotiable. Be very disciplined about this timekeeping ~ then you wont suffer from one of the major pitfalls of working from home.

05.01.2022 Pain is a tool our brain uses to keep us safe, but it can really cramp your style and limit your options when it persists beyond the time it takes for damaged tissues to heal and becomes a different beast ~ known as chronic pain. Chronic pain can still be mitigated and managed ~ you just need a great team around you to guide you through the process. Speak with your GP and make sure you have a great musculoskeletal therapist too. At the Adelaide Chiropractic Centre we help pe...ople are dealing with chronic pain every day. 04.01.2022 Best practice for people with a new episode of low back pain is for conservative spine management, including spinal manipulation (a.k.a. chiropractic adjustments) and exercises. Chiropractors and physiotherapists are the best ports of call to receive conservative spine management. Taking other routes increases the risk of developing chronic pain syndromes. If you or a loved one are experiencing back pain, give us a call at the Adelaide Chiropractic Centre on 8221 6262. We ca...n help. #backpain #LowBackPain #chiropractic #ChronicPain

01.01.2022 Conservative spinal care, such as provided by chiropractors and physiotherapists, is considered best practice for low back pain and neck pain by the research medical scientists in the world. Government health departments the world over (Australia, United Kingdom, Canada and the USA) have published guidelines promoting this care to encourage better health outcomes for their community and decreased cost to the health system and individuals. Its proving tricky to shift how ba...ck pain is managed in practice. Should you or one of yours suffer from back pain, make sure the care choices you make are ones supported by good research.
