25.01.2022 Returning to the gym this weekend after the shut down? We suggest these tips, to get you back on track whilst preventing injury...

25.01.2022 JOIN THE FUN: THE PUSH-UP CHALLENGE 11th to 31st May 2020 Challenge yourself physically, learn about mental health, engage in some friendly rivalry and help ACSMC support Headspace for mental health and suicide prevention through 'The Push-Up Challenge'. Over the course of 21-days in May our team 'ACSMC push for more' will be challenged to complete 3,046 push-ups in total, representing the number of lives lost in Australia to suicide in 2018. The team will work together to...wards the combined daily targets to reach the final goal of 3,046. Push-ups can be done just about anywhere, and you can spread your push-ups out over the day. There are wall push-ups, knee push-ups and because not everyone can do push-ups, there are alternative exercises on offer (see posters below). The number of push-ups changes each day to reflect a vital mental health statistic, so along the way you’ll receive some mental health tips and facts. Join our team and thousands of others across Australia to push for better mental health! To get involved: 1. Go to our team page, use code 'Biceps' https://www.thepushupchallenge.com.au//13895-acsmc-push-fo 2. Spread the word and get others involved 3. Start prepping yourself! 4. 11th to 31st May: Start pushing! 5. Log in and 'bank' your push-ups towards our team target each day We recommend you start slowly with 10 reps and ease into it. Remember the daily targets are a team effort, every 5 or 10 reps counts towards our target. www.thepushupchallenge.com.au

13.01.2022 Language and injury: We often use metaphors to help us describe our pain or injury, like "muscles knotted up" or "pins and needles". We can also use them to help keep us motivated during recovery. Here are some of our favourites. Let us know if you have any others you like to use...... 'Motion is lotion' - movement is treatment/medicine 'Be like a Chameleon' - adapt, keep active and explore 'Your next position is your best position' - keep moving 'You can't eat the whole salami at once' - one step/chunk at a time 'It's a bend in the road, not the end of the road' - sometimes we can't see the road around the corner

06.01.2022 ENTRY INTO CLINIC UPDATE You can no longer turn right off of West Lakes Blvd into the Clinic. If you normally do this, you will need to turn right onto Frederick Road at the lights, then right onto Brebner Drive and then right into Troubridge Drive. The turn off is just after ALDI. We were not informed of this closure which has made it very challenging for our patients and our amazing office staff. Thank you all for your support this week. 05.01.2022 We are 6 weeks into lock down and your aches and pains just don't go away. We are still seeing patients face to face. Listen to Tim Barnwell, APA Sports Physiotherapist, discuss the current landscape of Physiotherapy and Telehealth during lockdown on ABC Perth Radio. Tim sheds light on some of the topics that have been frequently discussed in the media, however, have still left some of us scratching our heads. Is it tricky to maintain 1.5m when physios are doing consultat...ions in person? "Physios are really well trained in hygiene practices and a lot of us are trained in hospital settings, so we're well on top of the hand hygiene and washing. Everything we use is single use between patients so the risk of transmission for someone that is healthy and not in an at-risk category is really quite low."

05.01.2022 Friday knowledge nugget: Ever wondered why we have kneecaps (patellas)? This video brilliantly demonstrates how we need our patella as a fulcrum to allow the quadriceps to extend the knee, without too much force being exerted....what great anatomy we have!

03.01.2022 Advice from the Physiotherapy association regarding Physiotherapy clinics and Corona Virus is to continue services following the hygiene guidelines and asking screening questions when making bookings. We’re still OPEN and working on Telehealth conferencing to start in the next week as an option.

03.01.2022 UPDATE ON OUR SERVICES In light of the latest restrictions announced last night due to Covid-19, we have chosen to CEASE ALL EXERCISE CLASSES until further notice. Despite our participants excellent adherence to keeping distance from each other and sanitising all equipment after use, we feel the extended period we are in the room together is no longer advisable. Unsupervised exercise session will also be cancelled as we cannot guarantee that correct infection control proced...ures are being followed, which places others at risk. If you want to keep going at home, we can set up a home program for you based on your current program. Call the clinic to book an exercise review or book online clicking the 2 areas option, to allow sufficient time. We have exercise equipment in stock and are great at adapting your home environment into an exercise gym. Telehealth should be available next week (provided the internet can cope) and we have been promised that there will be some funding for this at least through medicare. We extend our best wishes to all our loyal exercise participants and will keep you informed of any ideas we have to help keep you moving and safe during this time.
