15.01.2022 From the 6th to the 9th of February this year, over 300 Fijians from around Australia descended upon the city of churches, for a bi-annual conference of the Fijian Congregations within the Uniting Church of Australia. After a long four days of fun, activities and hard work, the host community (based at the Vermont Uniting Church, South Plympton) and all the volunteers converged at the buffet restaurant, Watermark to celebrate and acknowledge a tremendous effort put in by the FIjian community at large. 03.01.2022 I coundnt control my tears as I saw this 78 year old someone's grandmother on the road at #somewhere under the sun. She is on her way home to her village return...ing from the bushes fetching her firewood and some breadfruit for her lunch and dinner combined. This humble scenario made me think deeper and began to introspectively question myself as I pondered the welfare of these vulnerable mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers, I paused to contemplate on a few important and pressing issues affecting our male dominated society. 1. Where are our strong rugby playing, high tackling men who boast of their hulks and great physicality? 2. Whoever is related to this poor old grandmother, ask yourselves, "why am I ashamed to help her? 3. To all the strong young men out there, can you leave your touch rugby game for a while and fetch grandma's firewood? 4. If you are a Turaga ni Koro, what are you doing to address this issue? Shame on you people. Your prayers and praises in the church will be worthless if you overlook the plight of these grandmothers. God bless you "Someone's Granny." I pray that you will find peace in our Heavenly Father's kingdom. Nemani Bainivalu
