25.01.2022 It was 11pm and Reece was on the hunt for a good Milky Way shot that wasn't working out. This image was the shot of the night with the water so flat it was like glass that reflected the ship and the night clouds ( USS Tarawa). Settings: ISO 800, 46 mm, F5.6, 13sec exposure. 24.01.2022 Everyone has a favorite place to visit and Kristens is Lake Tahoe. She especially admires the clear blue water. The very first time Kristen visited the lake was during wintertime when the water was calm. On this particular visit, it was in the middle of summertime and the water was choppy and full of visitors. Kristen wanted to recreate that image of calm water using an ND filter and a slower shutter speed. Brilliant Job. Well done Kristen. 24.01.2022 Edward wanted to prove a point to his students from his workshops. There was an idea going around that you have to have a big prime lens to get a quality image of a hummingbird or any other subject. Challenge excepted. Edward left his Nikkor 400mm f2.8 at home grabbed his used Nikkor 200-500 f5.6 and went to a place he knew there to be hummingbirds and that he had recently shot with his 400mm. After spending just 30 minutes in the morning, this is the resulting image. Camera...s and lenses are just tools. Understanding how to use those tools in many different situations to provide the best image consistently is what professional photographers do. By doing this example it gave his students more confidence after seeing the results and now they have had breakthrough results of their own.. Love it. 20.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago, Gloria attended a meetup at Sunset Cliffs in Oceanbeach. The sky was a bit smokey due to the recent fires. Gloria decided to take the stairs down to the water. The tides were low so she was able to get somewhat in the inner part of the landing. The shot happened by chance because Gloria is afraid of water. She was brave and decided to walk across the rocks and stand against the wall. She then patiently watched many people come down the stairs. Then all ...of a sudden she saw this beautiful girl coming down the stairs with her surf board. She immediately started taking shots as soon as she got to the bottom. Gloria was only able to get 3 shots because she disappeared into the water. All the way home Gloria had that feeling that this was The Shot We love your photo as well, Gloria. Thank you for sharing. 20.01.2022 Sometimes the conditions dont work in your favor to capture action photographs. As a photographer you need to know when to switch to manual mode and understand that dialling in your settings can achieve a great image. In this example, captured on a very cold, wet and misty Winters evening, the photographer ensured the shutter speed was fast enough to freeze the player, whilst having an ISO high enough for the sensor to allow enough light in to expose the image. If you want to take a picture using a slow shutter speed, it is best to mount the camera on a tripod and to reduce the chance of any unwanted camera movement. 17.01.2022 Matthew Cope is a photographer from Tampa Photography Group he goes go by (M.C Photography) Matt ventured out of his local area of St.Pete Florida and headed down to Bradenton riverwalk. He decided to look for something that stood out and something you dont see every day. There was a train track bridge that went across the Manatee River that was old and no longer in use. Matt wanted that to be in the photo so he searched around an noticed a small mangrove plant growing out o...f a wood pillar an that is something you dont see every day an the two just clicked. Matt wanted the plant as his main subject and the train tracks to be in the background. In any scene with several subjects or objects in the front and back of the frame, the foreground elements will catch the eye in the first instant. 17.01.2022 John has admired this location in the movies, but have never known where it was locateddespite growing up in LA. He now lives in Phoenix and makes it a point to go out and shoot every time he visits LA. John did a quick turnaround trip just so that he could get this shot. Lining up with a friend and other masked people for about 15-20 minutes, just to get in that night image. He was then told he wasnt allowed to use his tripod. So he wandered across the street in hopes of c...apturing the entire exhibit, along with the life (people and cars) bustling by, John couldnt be more pleased with the result. We love it. 14.01.2022 Taken at the famous Portland Head Lighthouse in Portland, Maine. This picture is the first one taken on the way to Acadia National Park. Immediately after landing, he headed towards the lighthouse only to find that the light was really flat by the time he arrived. So he decided to do a long exposure to compensate for that. Giving the waves a kind of silky texture and also, the photo looks dramatic and mysterious. This was shot using a Nikon D700 with a 24-70 f/ 2.8 lens at 35...mm. Jose used an Induro tripod with a Really Right Stuff ball head. Upon arrival, Jose found myself among 20 to 30 other photographers. I wanted to take home the beauty of this place but also, wanted something a little different. Wandering away from the crowd he looked for a different composition and to give it a personal touch. At the end, it was all worth it. Landscape photography requires post-processing and this image is not the exception. First, Jose did a black and white conversion using Silver Effects from Nik, dodge and burn selectively using luminosity masks and finally, added a vignette to draw the attention towards the center of the image. 12.01.2022 Location: Historic San Carlos Hotel, Downtown Phoenix AZ Michael's daughter recently moved to Phoenix and wanted to explore downtown. She's a history buff with a special interest in mysteries, so we decided to stop by the historic San Carlos Hotel. Although his lived here since 2011, he'd never actually visited the San Carlos, so had no idea of it's rich or haunted history. ... The hotel manager graciously allowed them to move about at their own pace and even gave them access to a secret back room that once served as a speakeasy. The room looked virtually untouched from it's heyday. It was still beautiful with elaborate furnishings, original bar fixtures, wall decor, and intricately-carved wooden columns. But one thing kept pulling Michael's attention away a massive, black safe that looked as if it was standing guard in a corner. He couldn't help but wonder, like the hotel itself, what secrets where once locked away within that safe's walls. Something about that huge safe, peaking out from a dark corner, in a secret room, of a hotel with such a macabre past... It just seemed like there was something more to the story. Michael felt inspired to shoot the safe from that perspective, using lots of negative space to whisper the story. He just felt more in tune with the uneasiness he was feeling and all those unanswered questions. He likes to think I left a little for the viewer's imagination. 04.01.2022 Edward recently acquired a Samyang 135 F2 and wanted to experiment with light trails at night. Hoping to see something interesting he headed to Luke AFB, where the venerable F-35 Lightning II is stabled. As luck would have it, the moon was almost full- It would have been perfect if he were to catch a jet silhouette against the moon.
