24.01.2022 The SA State Government recently made the Residential Rental Grant Scheme available to eligible temporary visa holders including international students. If you are in private rental accommodation and meet the eligibility criteria, you and/or your landlord can apply for the grant. The one-off rental grant is capped at $1,000 and paid directly to the landlord as a tenant, you benefit from the reduced rent (rent relief). To be eligible you will need to demonstrate you are in r...ental hardship. Your application will also need to include a temporary rent reduction agreement showing that you and your landlord negotiated to reduce the rent at some point between 30 March 2020 and 30 September 2020. To find out more about rental hardship and how to apply, visit https://www.treasury.sa.gov.au/Growing-South-Austr/COVID-19

24.01.2022 The SRC President sent a letter recently to the SA Premier to outline international students' issues. International students, as part of the Australian community, deserve equal opportunity and the same rights as domestic students!

23.01.2022 The SRC President and Education Officer have been actively working on the issue of pilot ProctorU. After bringing various concerns of students to uni, it is apparent that ProtorU unable to address functionality, service level arrangements, and information security in the schedule time frame to ensure students are not impacted. Thus, the proposed pilot of ProctorU for remote invigilated exams will therefore not proceed for Semester 2 exam period. We thank you for raising your concerns to us and please email [email protected] if you have any other concerns regarding online exams!

22.01.2022 The SRC voted to censure Environmental Officer, Ahmed Azhar for his gross misconduct in using SRC funds, the funds of the students of Adelaide University, for his own personal ambitions and promotion, by deceivingly using the printer with unauthorised access to print 330 pages of his personal posters. The SRC asked, in the interest of justice for the funds of our students, that he repay these funds. However, he refused to admit his wrongdoings and repay the funds. The SRC is funded by Student Service and Amenities (SSAF) and the SRC maintains that these funds and SRC equipment should only be used for students' purposes. It is noted that General Councilor Billy Zimmermann and Ben Foster voted against the resolution.

22.01.2022 The SRC President joined CAPA today to advocate for a better quality of education!

22.01.2022 I have received a lot of concerns regarding the postponement of exams, the majority of them from students who have their life planned around their exams. Some students also have internships that start right after their exams. I wish to clarify the rationale for the decision to postpone the exams. First, exams are postponed primarily for two reasons: 1. The University has exams support infrastructure set up on campus. The University was not confident that in such a short time ...frame that the same and equal amount of support could be provided to students. We wanted to ensure fair and equal support was provided to all students in their exams. 2. The announcement of restrictions put a lot of our students in an anxious and difficult position, including those with caring responsibilities as well as the worry about food/medical supplies. Students maybe are worrying about what the lockdown means for them and international students are facing an unprecedented challenge being separated from their family and support networks etc. 3. Not everyone has access to IT/internet facilities to allow them to take those exams off-campus so with the Hub and other computer rooms shut from today this could mean some students were not able to sit these online exams had they gone ahead. However, I will be working very closely with the university for the following days to ensure all your concerns that you have raised with me are addressed, in order to ensure the best outcome for all our students. -Oscar SRC President

21.01.2022 Students are still deeply distressed by the revelations of recent ICAC's investigation report. For the gross misconduct and numerous lies that the former VC has told, he shouldn't be paid a single cent and should had been sacked instantly. It is simply outrageous that he was still paid $326,400. Thus, the SRC fully endorses the university's effort in restoring the payout given to the former VC. -Oscar Zi Shao Ong, President

19.01.2022 Happy Diwali to our Indian students!

18.01.2022 As a result, the SRC President further met with the Office of SA Minister for Trade and Investment today. They talked about summer employment oppurtunities and financial support, international students' repatriation project and antiracism efforts. We are hoping to have some good news to deliver soon!

17.01.2022 The SRC is calling to remove the former VC's name from graduation certificates and joining the NTEU to call for the former VC to reimburse any money he was paid whilst on leave for reasons related to the investigation rather than being sacked outright. The money could have been put towards our students! -Oscar Ong, SRC President

16.01.2022 For students who were taking the exams at 1:50pm yesterday and are affected by the lockdown announcement, I've advocated for the uni to acknowledge the distress and disruption caused by the announcement. Make sure you are aware of the MACA policy! https://www.adelaide.edu.au/covid-19/student-information -Oscar, SRC President

15.01.2022 Hi all! We have an exciting opportunity to participate in a survey that is contributing to a fellow student’s studies, with an added bonus of winning 1 of 3 Coles vouchers valued at $50! With the Covid-19 pandemic, many of us have had difficulties adjusting to the new method of online study. As a result of this, Sara Prostran, an Honours student has reached out with a survey about food security, employment, and dietary and lifestyle behaviours among University students during... the Covid-19 pandemic. Research: Food security, employment, and dietary and lifestyle behaviours among University students during the Covid-19 pandemic. (H-2020-159). The survey only takes 20 minutes, find the link below: https://surveys.adelaide.edu.au/redcap/surveys/?s=TCL7PRJ3L8 If you have any concerns about this project, please contact: Principal Investigator Dr Nichola Thompson Email: [email protected] Phone: (08) 8313 6395

09.01.2022 Really nice weather today ! The SRC and AUU President were down at Roseworthy Meet Your Reps event speaking to students about important issues! Students are glad that after the SRC President working with AUU President, VP and Board Director Angela Qin, the AUU shop will remain open in Roseworthy!

09.01.2022 The SRC wishes to clarify the President's statement that was misrepresented deliberately by On Dit. The SRC President did NOT state that former VC payout was modest. They passed on the information that the Acting VC had advised in the Academic Board Meeting: ie that the $1m payout reports in the media were untrue and it was the Acting VC who stated that the amount had been 'modest' compared to the reported $1m, without revealing the actual figure. To ensure the motion passed ...does not misrepresent the fact, the initial figure of $1m assumed was removed. The President wasn't aware of the amount and was only repeating what was said by the acting VC. After the amount was revealed, the President rejects the claim that it was modest and remains his position in calling for the former VC to reimburse any money he was paid whilst on leave for reasons related to the investigation rather than being sacked outright. 09.01.2022 I have advocated that the university to replace testamur signed by disgraced former VC, Peter Rathjen the night the news broke. I am glad the request is now granted and graduates will be given for free replacement testamur if they request prior to 15 December 2020. I thank the university in their time in considering and concurring with the SRC’s request. More details here: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/covid-19/student-information -Oscar Zi Shao Ong, President

01.01.2022 TW: Sexual Harassment/Assault The SRC are distressed by the recent Independent Commissioner Against Corruption (ICAC) findings regarding the sexual misconduct of our former Vice-Chancellor Peter Rathjen. We are even more distressed to hear that this misconduct had been under investigation for AT LEAST a year and a half leading up to ICAC’s announcement. How is this acceptable? Survivors of sexual harassment and assault have a right to be heard, supported and should be taken... seriously. No one deserves to be treated this way. All individuals should feel safe and comfortable in their learning and work environments. The conduct exhibited by the former Vice-Chancellor is despicable and unacceptable. This pattern of behaviour, especially from those taking advantage of perceived positions of power, must stop. Perpetrators should acknowledge the damage they cause, take accountability for their actions and be brought to justice. As a society, we must work together to support victims of sexual harassment and assault. We must be the change we hope to see in the world, and take a stand against perpetrators in the community. The SRC thanks and commends the bravery of the victims who came forward and courageously shared their story. We hear you. We see you. We support you. We will continue to advocate for you and for more to be done by the University. We understand the recent investigation into the Former Vice-Chancellor may be triggering.
