23.01.2022 Aboriginal Outcomes and Partnerships NSW Department of Education Aboriginal Students Poster & Multimedia Competition Secondary students are invited to develop, create and submit a poster or multimedia piece reflecting the key messages to support Premier's Priority. The competition is open to all public schools and high schools. The aim is to launch the winning student(s) works by the end of 2020. Underpinning this promotion is the need for more young Aboriginal men and wo...men to stay at school. Since COVID, sadly, more young Aboriginal people have not returned to school or have missed too many days of education. We know that staying at school until the end of Year 12 will significantly increase both life expectancy, life-wellbeing and lead to greater life opportunities. Land, family, law/lore, ceremony and language are five key interconnected elements of Aboriginal culture. We know that a young Aboriginal person's sense of identity is shaped in these vital years of education. Please refer to the link below for all the competition details. https://www.aecg.nsw.edu.au//Identity-and-Education-A-Dead

16.01.2022 In 1916 this 104-year-old compass belonging to Aboriginal soldier Private Mick Flick helped him navigate through the fields of the Western Front in France and then pointed the way back home to Collarenebri in North West NSW. In 2020, this same compass guides his great-great grandson Dominic Flick to realise his cultural goal of carrying this amazing family story into the future. Through his engagement in the Pirru Thangkuray Dream Strong program, Dom identified wanting to... be the keeper of his great-great-grandfathers story for his generation as one of his cultural goals. Listen to his story. Posted with permission. #lestweforget

15.01.2022 I had the incredible privilege of presenting the NSW AECG Inc. NAIDOC Artwork Competition participation certificates to over 50 students at Merrylands Public School who created sensational artworks to celebrate this year's theme 'Always Was, Always Will Be'. Well done MPS!

14.01.2022 The NSW AECG has been advocating on behalf of Aboriginal students, their families and communities for over 40 years for improved education outcomes. It is beyond comprehension that a Certificate of Exemption from Enrolment/Attendance at school under Section 25 of the Education Act 1990 can be given to a Kindergarten student to not attend school because they are not school ready, 8 months into the school year. This is Education Neglect!! #aboriginaleducationmatters

05.01.2022 Today is Remembrance Day. It commemorates the signing of the peace agreement that ended WW1 at 11am on 11 November 1918. It is a time for all to remember and honour the memory of all those the men and women who served, are currently serving and those we have lost to the cause. Lest We Forget. #remembranceday #lestweforget

04.01.2022 The Ngurang-gu Yalbilinya Program is an initiative specifically designed to target young Aboriginal males aged 12 to 16 years who have become disengaged with ed...ucation for varying reasons. The program provides a positive learning environment where the Educational needs of young Aboriginal males are individually tailored with associated well-being and health support plans maximising effect and success. Facilitators provide a student focused environment addressing engagement, attendance, literacy and numeracy along with culturally driven programs aimed at establishing and/or improving the young Aboriginal males connection to culture. Ngurang-gu Yalbilinya is fully supported by the State Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), Orange Local Aboriginal Lands Council (OLALC), Orange Aboriginal Medical Services (OAMS), Orange City Council and the Department of Education. All of which are dedicated to working collaboratively with facilitators to address and strategically tackle growing concerns with young Aboriginal males in the Orange, NSW area.

02.01.2022 Was great to be down at Shaolhaven High School to see the students dancing and being filmed for the upcoming virtual launch of our Partnership Agreement ... such deadly dancers!!

01.01.2022 A great initiative... working with Community to ensure our kids get a quality education. It also couldn’t be done without the dedication of staff working on the program... wonderful to see it come to life !!

01.01.2022 The NSW AECG is supporting students, this time in Court. But not only are we supporting a student, but we are also supporting the parent as both find themselves charged. Whilst the NSW AECG does not condone any form of verbally abusive behaviour, we understand and share the frustration when policies and processes are not followed particularly in relation to suspensions. The Department of Education could have handled it a lot better. Another day in the struggle.
