23.01.2022 DAY 1 Storm Men finished the first day of the AVL Championships top of their pool having defeated UTSSU 3 sets to 1. The heat in the stadium continued to take its toll on all the players but Coach Mehrdad Meranpour made good use of his substitutes to keep his players fresh. The team flirted with the magic setting duo of Harrison Peacock and Rory Welsh at times and it seemed that no rotation couldnt work with the traditional one setter system allowing first Dan Wauchope to t...ake damage and later in the game the up and coming Tommi Kabelitz to shine in attack. It was pretty to see Cooper and Harrison Peacock combine as they intuitively set up winning attacks again and again. The height of Ryan Scutters leap and the ferocity of his hits, meant that UTSSU had no way of stopping him and he is a very exciting duo when matched with Cooper. Jahan Emery and debutants Lewis Whiley-Smith and John Maggs managed the middle blocking defence and the ever reliable libero Ben Williamson was everywhere to ensure the team were able to retaliate. Whoever came on court contributed in the role they were asked to perform so this was truly a team win, and the boys advance to the Quarter Finals tomorrow. 13.01.2022 DAY 3 Storm Men lost 3-0 against the WA Steel in the bronze medal match. The Storm had some good chances but couldn't capitalise.... There are some exciting prospects for next year with some brilliant shots from both younger players combining with the experienced campaigners. Credit must be given to Ben Williamson for a weekend of outstanding play as a Libero. Fantastic work by both of our teams in the AVL Championship Finals Series. 05.01.2022 ROUND ONE WRAP UP - STORM v VIPERS Our 1st round against the Melbourne Vipers was always going to prove tough; this was shown in the scores from both days. During the first day of play, our Storm Women brought home a confident win; the team gelled well together, were sharp in both attack and defence and also were able to serve out points well. Our Storm Men on the other hand could not combine on court well enough to fight the Viper venom. The second day of Round 1 was also a ...tough affair; albeit more competitive in both games. The Storm Women struggled to get in the same groove as day 1 and when they finally found their rhythm, managed to fight back in the third set. The fourth was tight, coming back from 24-20 down to 24 all, before finally conceding the last two points to lose 3 sets to 1. The Storm Men played better on Day 2, having finally found some cohesion in the team, and managed to push the Vipers to get the lead in the third set (2-1 up to Storm). However, a few errors caused the men to lose both fourth and fifth sets, ending the day 3-2 down. This weekend Adelaide Storm will be playing at home with players for both the mens and womens team selected from local volleyball clubs around Adelaide and featuring several current Australian players from the Helloworld Volleyroos in the Storm womens team Beth Carey, Rebecca Reeve, Lucy Ambagtsheer and Tara Maland. This weekends home round against Queensland Pirates will be tough Queensland are arguably one of the strongest sides in the competition and the Storm will have to play cohesively in order to beat the Pirates. The Storm Women will try and utilize one of their new additions to the team who has a big lift hit; the Men will have a very big squad to pick from to field a team against the Pirates. ROUND TWO @ Mt Lofty Community Sports Centre, 26/27 October 26 Oct: 5:30pm - 9:30pm 27 Oct: 10:30am - 2:30pm Tickets $10 @ the gate (Photo credit: Mark Avelino Photography)

04.01.2022 DAY 2 Storm Men won vs Qld Buccaneers 3-1 and advance to Semi Final v Qld Prirates at 5pm! Buccaneers couldn't handle the early firepower of Ryan Scutter and a brilliant defence on the back of a flying dive to pancake from Ben Williamson got the team inspired. ... When John Maggs pulled off an Ace set point of the 1st set the tone of the match was set. Storm didn't have it all their way with Buccaneers claiming the third set but Storm started fresh in the 4th to build an early lead they never looked like giving up. Middle Lewis Whiley-Smith continued his good form and Jack Phelan finished the game with a crowd pleasing kill from two! #thestormiscoming #volleyballsa #adelaidestorm Volleyball SA
