21.01.2022 Presenting our next #humanofauuclubs Katherine Queen! Having been involved in Robogals for over 2 years, Katherine is the outgoing Secretary, and incoming Treasurer for 2020/2021. Katherine is not limited to any onething. Her expansive knowledge of music, languages, basic computer coding, photoshop, and designing makes her the perfect candidate for her degree in architecture (she is also starting an Architecture Club on campus). She hopes to one day use her work to focus...on humanitarian architectural work through her designs and help those in need. She is truly a QUEEN! Who is Robogals and what do you do? Robogals are part of the ECMS societies on campus. We specifically focus on inspiring women and people from lower socio-economic areas to pursue STEM, through, you guessed it, ROBOTS. Using our EV3 workshops, we teachyoung school children about engineering and stem, showing them how cool and fun it really is. We do a lot of work in rural communities to get young people involved in STEM. Recently, we visited schools in the Robe and Beachport area and it was like we introducedan entire new world to the students. This gives them more opportunities when they are in the position to make decisions about their future prospects. What’s the best thing about the Clubs Community? The Clubs Community, and specifically Robogals has given me the opportunity to give back, which helps me in return. Being a naturally timid person, Robogals has shown me that I am truly good at what I do and I amproud of what I have and can accomplish. As a woman rocking it in STEM, what piece of advice to give to young women hoping to get involved? Just do it. Go to an event. Put yourself out there. Not everyone will be passionate about STEM as a kid, but if you are, research what subjects you may need and do it! Take every opportunity you can and back yourself.

21.01.2022 #proudclubsmoment Ashish Bagai, General Member of @abss_uofa, has been recognised as a Community Legend in the first round of awards recognising campus legends during COVID-19 by the @uniofadelaide. "When COVID-19 hit many international students’ dreams were shattered. Newly arrived students were particularity vulnerable as restrictions left them isolated without friends or family. Ashish Bagai stepped up by providing peer support for students most deeply affected by the cr...isis. Leveraging a WhatsApp group he’d created, Ashish has helped over a thousand students adjust to their new situation." A massive thank you to Ashish, and to all clubs . It was wonderful to see clubs continue to engage students, connect communities and persevere online throughout last semester's remote learning.

13.01.2022 Meet Ashley #humansofauuclubs #wednesdayvoxpop Ashley is a Computer Science student recognised for his incredible dedication to clubs. Alongside being President of GAMES since 2017, Ashley is known for his Facebook Group creation Things To Do At Adelaide U where he promotes clubs’ events. Looking for Ashley? He can often be found helping other clubs reach quorum in his natural habitat, the Clubs Lounge. Check out the GAMES discord: http://discord.gg/YVqJwV5 What’s your favour...ite part of the AUU Clubs Community? Honestly, I love how the community keeps growing. I’d recommend students take a look at all the clubs on offer and either join one, or make their own if they can’t find a community which suits them. I was part of making a cheese society (twice!) and just helped start UofA’s Totally Cooked Club this year. If the Clubs Community was a family what role do you play? Probably the prodigal son, haha! People don’t often take games and hobby clubs seriously, but I think they should! They’re such easy, unifying activities, which bring people together from all belief and cultural backgrounds. What activities do GAMES get up to? Normally we have board games meet ups in the Clubs Lounge (Hartley Building) 3 days a week, our most popular day being Wednesday with around 40 members attending- we’ve got a pretty diverse range of games, something in the realm of 150-200 games! We’re still doing regular games nights, but we’ve been playing games online on our Discord Server, like Jack Box, Wednesdays and Fridays. Finally, give us a board game recommendation! Play One Night Ultimate Werewolf it’s quick (5 minutes!) and perfect for any group of 3-10 players. If you lose, you can try again next game. I also love the social deduction involved - the more times you play, you learn how to use logic and intuition to trip other players up!

06.01.2022 Meet Lenard #humansofauuclubs Lenard is well-known on campus, in Adelaide and Rotary Clubs globally, for his passion for multiculturalism, and his baby - Cultural Night. The Rotaract Club has successfully run this event 3 years now, winning our Best Event Award in 2017, and raising over $13400 for international and local charities. How did you get involved in clubs?... In 2016 a guy who worked for the UN told me to get involved with Rotary if I wanted a career in the UN. I then googled ‘Rotary’, met the Adelaide Rotary Club, and they told me there was a club on campus and I joined! What’s your biggest accomplishment? It’s unsurprising, but of course Cultural Night. It’s our annual festival, where we bring together communities for a night of multicultural celebration. I love how it gives a platform for young people to get in touch with their culture; just last year, Ibrahim from the African Students’ Association said his parents cried when he told them he wanted to dress in traditional Eritrean clothes. These types of stories emphasise why our work is so important. Why is multiculturalism so important to you? Learning Italian helped me foster a stronger relationship with Nonna and Nonno. I see language as a way to connect with people and in Adelaide especially, I see it as an opportunity for young people to embrace their heritage, and realise how much beauty there is in the diversity. My grandparents came to Australia in the 1960s and initially it wasn’t a welcoming experience for them; uniting cultural communities is a way to promote a culture of welcome in Adelaide. If COVID-19 didn’t exist and you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? The first place that comes to mind is Uzbekistan. However, I’d also love to travel across the Middle East. Personally I’m not religious, but I’d love to follow the journey of ‘Abraham’s Path’, it’s in the Bible, but I mainly want to do it to try all the different cuisines! What’s next for you? The dream's the UN! However, just like my work in clubs, I think the key to a meaningful life is working anywhere where I can effect positive change and empower communities.
