25.01.2022 It's #HOT. Tag a friend to help keep the #PetsofAdelaide safe during this hot weather.

25.01.2022 Who else is getting ready for Christmas? Post below how you and your pet are celebrating!

24.01.2022 Regularly brushing your pets teeth helps prevent the build-up of plaque and tartar, which in turn reduces the risk of gum disease. Bacteria from unhealthy teeth and gums can enter the bloodstream and cause disease in other organs such as the heart, liver and kidneys. Book your pet in for a dental check with our vets today.

24.01.2022 Due to the proximity of Fulham Gardens Animal Hospital - Pets and their People to Woodville; we have decided masks will still be required when entering any of our surgeries until Monday. Your safety is our priority. Our team are working hard to continue to provide the high standards of care we believe you and your pet deserve. We look forward to working together to keep each other safe during this time.

22.01.2022 Our pets are curious by nature and as the weather heats up, we tend to be outdoors with our furry friends more often. Watch out for the below garden dangers this Spring. Snail and slug baits This is a relatively common form of poisoning seen in pets, and is both distressing and dangerous. Dogs especially can be attracted to baits in pellet form as they look similar to dry dog food. Poisonous plants Many indoor and outdoor plants are toxic including lilies, castor bean and ...castor oil plants, and Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow plants (especially the berries). Tree or plant stone fruits Dogs may eat fruit stones, berries and seeds, and this can lead to serious intestinal blockages and obstructions, which can be fatal. Some fruit stones, berries or seeds may also contain toxic compounds which can be poisonous to your pets too. Fertilisers Fertilisers may be in liquid, granular or solid form and can include additives such as herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, iron, zinc and copper. Certain fertilisers may also contain bacterial or fungal toxins which can have serious side effects if ingested. Insecticides - Insecticides are readily available for home and commercial use and are highly toxic to pets. Bee Stings - Watch for allergic reactions. A severe reaction can be caused by a large number of stings or by an allergic reaction. Signs of a reaction include: *General weakness *Difficulty breathing *A large amount of swelling extending away from the sting site. Give us a call if your pet has come into contact with any of the above. See more

22.01.2022 Meet Scooby and Coco, aren't they adorable? This brother and sister duo are only 2 and a half years old but were in today for dental procedures to make sure t...heir teeth stay healthy. We strongly encourage our patients to have regular teeth cleaning, before the damage becomes too bad. This keeps them happy, healthy, pain free and keeps their breath smelling fresh!! How is your fur babies breath smelling? Is it time for a check up?

21.01.2022 It's always important to monitor and control your dog to ensure they don't eat anything harmful. Malicious poisonings are scary; but very rare. Accidental ingestion of harmful things are quite common. How do you try to keep your dog from eating anything they shouldn't on a walk?

21.01.2022 Dental disease is often preventable and in most cases, easy to achieve at home. There are many different methods to keep your pet's "pearly white" teeth and these should be started while they are puppies and kittens. For adult cats and dogs with existing dental disease, a dental treatment with a scale and polish under general anaesthetic is often necessary to get their mouth back into top condition. This will allow us to start prevention with a clean mouth which needs to be continued at home to hopefully prevent, or slow down dental disease developing again in the future.

21.01.2022 Jelly is so photogenic. Look at that gorgeous smile Thanks for brightening our days when you come into the clinic!

17.01.2022 HOT WEATHER WARNING This Friday and Saturday will be 40 degrees in Adelaide! Please be vigilant in keeping your pets safe!... Some recommendations, tips and tricks: Do not walk your dogs during this time unless it is early morning or very late at night. Their paws will burn on the concrete and also beach sand. This can also cause extra stress on their temperature and respiratory system. Ensure your pet has shelter, lots of water available, or better yet keep them indoors with cooling. Prepare 'doggy ice blocks' in the freezer Take them to work with you if you are able to or get them looked after If you own exotic pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs they need to be inside and kept cool. They can die in this type of heat if they are exposed to it. If you own brachycephalic dogs such as Pugs, Bulldogs, French Bulldogs etc. They also need to be inside and kept cool. They can also die if exposed to this type of heat due to their small airways. This unfortunately can happen very quickly. Please call us if you have questions or concerns!! Everyone stay safe and cool and we are here to help We will post signs of heat stress in pets tomorrow.

08.01.2022 What a cutie!! Charlie Bear being the goodest boy for his 16wk hip x-rays. You can follow more of his antics on Instagram at @charlie_bear_bernese ... Hip Dysplasia is an abnormal formation of the hip socket that occurs during a puppy's growth period. In some large breeds (such as Bernese Mountain Dogs like Charlie here) there is a high genetic component however weight gain and exercise can also play a role. Radiographs at 16wks can accurately predict which dogs have problems. Diagnosis at this age allows early surgical intervention which can significantly improve the shape of the hip. Some surgeries can only be performed up until 18wks of age and may even need referrals. So it's better to get in quick! Many large breed dog owners have heard of hip dysplasia; however anyone owning a dog should become familiar with this condition and its signs: - Bunny Hopping (where both legs move together) -Swaying or staggering in the hind limbs -Reluctance to run and jump -Difficulty lying or standing -Lameness -Sitting to one side Signs are variable. Some dogs show no signs whilst others show crippling lameness and develop arthritis. Let us know if you notice any of these signs in your pets, old or young!

Please phone us before entering our surgery and be aware only one person per consultation is allowed to ensure social distancing and the safety of both you and our team. We look forward to working together to keep each other safe. You and your pet's safety is our priority.

06.01.2022 Olive presented to us after getting injured by another dog. Her owner noticed after the incident she couldn't use one of her back legs properly. We took radiogr...aphs and found that her left hip had dislocated! Whilst under general anaesthetic we were able to perform a 'closed hip reduction' where the hip was gently manouvered back into the socket. Olive is now on strict bed rest for 4 weeks to prevent it from dislocating again. She was such a brave girl!

02.01.2022 What you feed your pet can also play a large role in their oral health. Chewing can provide a mechanical way to clean your pet's teeth as well as provide some environmental enrichment or fun!

02.01.2022 These teeth looked okay... but upon x-ray we can see the supportive bone around the whole tooth has been destroyed by periodontitis. The bone should be up to the level of the dotted line. There is also a tooth root abscess that has destroyed bone around the root of the tooth in the red circle. Ouch!! This highlights one of the reasons why a professional dental clean with x-rays is so important. Our pets can't tell us when their teeth hurt.
