24.01.2022 During today's session, we used historical timelines to talk about basic mathematics. Our student chose to look at Ancient American History (including Mayan civilisation). This student's interest in history made him more interested in the maths content.

24.01.2022 Some work a student did recently on being to be able to correctly find the equation of a straight line using appropriate formulas!

24.01.2022 Playing games is a helpful way to consolidate information that students have learnt. This student played a game based on fractions and pizza - connecting mathematics to real life.

23.01.2022 Factoring quadratic equations - lots of great examples in this one :D This part of the Year 10 curriculum is quite full on, so we take the time to make sure students understand all concepts before testing their knowledge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ-NRsWhOGI

20.01.2022 Times table charts continue to help student memorise and locate his times tables. Using the resource when playing games or solving problems will help students gain confidence and remember multiplication sums in an easy manner.

20.01.2022 The Quadratic Formula used with a student in one of last week's sessions - it is just one of four different ways that we can solve quadratic equations.

20.01.2022 A game that a student and I played on Thursday about visual representations of fractions. He was understanding how they can be represented using different sections of geometric shapes.

20.01.2022 In 500 A.D., the Teotihuacan city in Mexico had a population of around 200,000 people. In 2016, data shows that the population of the area is now 347, 502, only 147,502 people more. During a session today we discussed the possibilities of such slow population growth in this area - low birth rate and high levels of migration to other countries.

19.01.2022 Quadratic Equations are the flavour of the month for senior maths sessions! This student has learnt how to use the formula and standard formation to be able to solve these questions! Is your child having issues with maths? Get them ahead by working with us

19.01.2022 A 90's mashup that can help students remember their times tables :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGsrC6ZPVGM

19.01.2022 This is some of the work a student did at home to continue on with the subject of linear inequalities. He did a really awesome job, and was able to follow the instructions and figure out if he had to reverse the inequality (you reverse it if you divide by a negative number).

18.01.2022 We did some work on equivalent fractions yesterday. We talked about what the words meant before the student was able to figure out what the term meant. We then talked about what the numerators and denominators were - before making our own fraction tables. He was really able to figure out larger and smaller fractions and then apply that to real life situations.

18.01.2022 In our recent sessions, we have been doing a lot of work on quadratic equations, and the many different ways to solve them. This is done in Year 10 Maths and upwards, and this video is a great explanation for kids who may need help! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvdq-9ZUvac

18.01.2022 https://s18670.pcdn.co/wp-content//2016/10/fractionwar.pdf Fraction flash cards such as these can be useful in memorising equivalent fractions!

18.01.2022 Some work a student completed on linear inequalities, he remembered the two main "rules" of inequalities, which are: the aim is to get the x pro-numeral by itself, and whatever we do to one side of the equation, we must do to the other side.

16.01.2022 These are the floor plans of a student's, he had a 3 storey, 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house, complete with his own games room and pool! He did a really good job, thinking about the practicality of the rooms in the house, and their perimeter and area. He did a wonderful job!

16.01.2022 Songs and catchy tunes are a great way to help students memorise information. This is one is for the 3 times tables. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XzfQUXqiYY

15.01.2022 Next week we will be focusing on mathematical influence throughout Ancient History. We will examine the creation of the sundial in Ancient Egyptian civilisation and how they are still used today! We will then create our own sundial using recycled materials, and measure the movement of the elements and the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SN1BOpLZAs

15.01.2022 A helpful video that explains how to work out the gradient of a straight line! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7D6b_kxqZE

14.01.2022 Some posters that a student made during one of our sessions based on Quadratic Equations using a graphic design program. He used the knowledge he had discovered on the formulas and the steps needed to solve an equation using the formula.

14.01.2022 Some interesting general info about the Viking Era - would make for a good History lesson for kids :) https://www.theschoolrun.com/homework-help/vikings

14.01.2022 This is a matching activity on linear inequalities that a student completed yesterday morning. Using his knowledge of linear equations and how to visualise them on a number line, he was able to match the equation to the correct linear image.

13.01.2022 Some lego creations made by a student! He followed instructions to make a lego truck, plane and dog. His visual-spatial skills were used when building the lego and when then measured the perimeter and area of the area around the lego creations. They look great!

12.01.2022 Fraction Grids such as these are great in showing students that even though fractions may get smaller, they still equal up to the same whole.

11.01.2022 After using a catchy song to memorise their 3 times tables, this student was able to recall them in order!

11.01.2022 During our latest session, we did some more work on fractions. We talked about the three different types of fractions - proper, improper and mixed fractions. The student now understands that proper fractions have a larger denominator than numerator, that improper fractions have a larger numerator than denominator and a mixed fraction is a fraction that contains a whole number and a fraction.

10.01.2022 Today we will be doing some more work on fractions, in particular telling the difference between proper and improper fractions, and being able to convert them to mixed fractions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEmCZGbd4R8

10.01.2022 Did you know that there are roughly 15 tectonic plates that cover our earth? These plates can cause earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and can even create entire ranges of mountains!

10.01.2022 Some NAPLAN based fractions questions that a student completed during our session. He is applying his knowledge of groupings (using concrete materials such as counters etc), to determine fraction amounts, as well as being able to tell the difference between smaller and larger fractions.

08.01.2022 Yesterday we did some work on the novel Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey for a senior English student. A plan was made for the student to respond to the thesis statement that "children's identities are strongly shaped by the morals and values of their parental figures".

08.01.2022 A great video to help kids understand improper and mixed fractions :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEmCZGbd4R8

06.01.2022 Work on gradients that a student completed during the last session! Gradients are one of the components that he has to figure out how to solve the equation of a straight line. He had to pick out to points on the line on the graph and then use the equation of rise over run to solve the gradient.

05.01.2022 A great video example of how to factor quadratic equations using the decomposition method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvdq-9ZUvac

05.01.2022 During a session today, we used a game of multiplication bingo to help a student memorise their nine times tables

04.01.2022 This is the multiplication game that a student and I played in today's session. We had two six-sided dice and had turns at rolling them. The two numbers that we rolled were turned into a multiplication sum that we had to figure out the answer to. The student used the times table grid as a guide and to prompt recognition of the times tables. He did a great job and won the game :)

02.01.2022 During a session yesterday, we looked at the results of what happens on earth when plate tectonics react with one another! https://www.nationalgeographic.org/media/plate-tectonics/
