22.01.2022 Overground endoscopy video at the treadmill gallop (36km/h at 6 degree incline). We most commonly perform these studies on the racetrack at race speed, replica...ting race conditions. This video was selected as the slower speed aids real time viewing of the video of the left arytenoid and vocal fold collapse (right side of image). See more

18.01.2022 Here is a nice emotive video of life behind the scenes at Malua Flemington in these uncertain times. The faces, the care and the commitment.

15.01.2022 Overground endoscopy. What a fabulous technique! It removes the guess work involved in interpreting resting endoscopic evaluations of the upper airway. It all...ows the surgeon to tailor their surgical technique to the conditions identified. The attached example shows a classic "roarer" at rest, on a treadmill gallop (36km/hr at 6 degree incline) and the tieback surgery being performed standing (which is now being performed more frequently by surgeons). 13.01.2022 The Strounch Group, who run Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields have announce today that they will be enacting policies that will bring racing at their trac...ks in California in line with other signatories to the International Federation of Horse Racing Authorities (IFHA). ‘This mandate encompasses a complete revision of the current medication policy to improve the safety of our equine and human athletes and to raise the integrity of our sport. These revisions comprise best practices currently employed at racetracks around the world: -Banning the use of Lasix (on raceday). -Increasing the ban on legal therapeutic NSAIDS, joint injections, shockwave therapy, and anabolic steroids. -Complete transparency of all veterinary records. Significantly increasing out-of-competition testing. -Increasing the time required for horses to be on-site prior to a race. -A substantial investment by The Stronach Group in diagnostic equipment to aid in the early detection of pre-existing conditions. -Horses in training are only allowed therapeutic medication with a qualified veterinary diagnosis.‘ Photo credit: California Racing Board https://www.santaanita.com//an-open-letter-about-the-fut/

11.01.2022 The Australian Trainers Association have provided this information to trainers regarding recent triamcinalone positives (cortisone that is commonly utilised to inject joints when clinically required). Unfortunately, detection times/withdrawal times are not readily available for the injection of cortisone into the stifles and hocks and for this reason vets have to rely on anecdotal and extrapolated data from other joints to give treatment recommendations. It is interesting that there appears to be a recent increasing frequency of these positive tests, and we believe that the utilisation of these treatments has not changed over recent years.

11.01.2022 Overground scope video showing laryngeal function at rest. Grade 3.2 out of 4 (Havemeyer scale). The left arytenoid (right side of image) does not achieve or maintain full abduction compared to the right side.

08.01.2022 The osteochondroma after it has been removed. I’m sure the horse is much happier now that is not rubbing against its tendon every time it moves.

08.01.2022 What is your diagnosis? This is a 3 year-old Thoroughbred racehorse that displayed mild forelimb lameness during ridden exercise. Moderate to severe carpal sheath effusion had developed in the last 1-2 weeks.

06.01.2022 Intern applications are closing! We look forward to announcing our first intern.
