25.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to parents across the species spectrum.

25.01.2022 Whether they have 2 legs, 4 or even more, happy birthday to all fathers out there.

24.01.2022 Lacey and her family were taking a lovely stroll along the beach when she was randomly attacked by another larger dog. Her quick-thinking family bundled her into the car and brought her to the AEC where she was promptly assessed and treated. On assessment she had a large continuous laceration extending from her back along to her right elbow forming a large flap that revealed a large amount of subcutaneous fat. There were several smaller lacerations in the same region, all c...ommunicating with the same space. Fortunately for Lacey the teeth of the other dog didn’t puncture her chest wall however it wasn’t until she had been stabilised that internal damage could be ruled unlikely. Dog fight wounds can be like an iceberg; what we see externally is only a small amount of the inflicted damage and it can take time before the true extent of injuries are diagnosed. Lacey’s prognosis was good, although she did need extensive surgery to suture her wounds. With wounds as extensive as hers, there is always a risk after surgery that some of the tissue and skin could become necrotic (die) and need further surgery. A drain was placed to help drain away any fluid build-up and Lacey was maintained on IV fluids, antibiotics and pain relief. Lacey was able to go home the next day and back into the care of her regular vet; an amazing result from the AEC team and her family!

16.01.2022 Today is World Animal Day. The mission is to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe. Building the celebration of World Animal Day unites the animal welfare movement, mobilising it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals. It's celebrated in different ways in every country, irrespective of nationality, religion, faith or political ideology. Through increased awareness and education we can create a world where animals are always recognised as sentient beings and full regard is always paid to their welfare.

15.01.2022 This message has absolutely made our week. Yes, we’re open and diagnosing and nursing and caring. No, we don’t get the same coverage as the human doctors. But that’s not why we do what we do. Nonetheless, we feel very ‘seen’ by this beautiful message and it means so much to us. Thank YOU to Lisa and Ziggy

15.01.2022 Our partners at the Petbarn Foundation are providing over $1.2m to animal welfare organisations via a combination of funds, food and supplies to evacuation centres in emergency sites and our vets volunteering their time to help Australia’s pets and native animals affected by the bushfires. This will help organisations like the RSPCA, Vets Beyond Borders, WIRES, The Rescue Collective, Sydney Dingo Rescue and many more to continue the work that is so desperately needed. For details on organisations we are supporting, click on the link below. We are thankful to our incredible pet community who have reached out to us and asked how they can support. You can help by pledging your support and donating online or by visiting one of our centres. Donate here: http://bit.ly/2QWyxjn

14.01.2022 Metric measuring of social distancing proving a bit tricky to imagine? It’s simple*... 3 Great Danes OR 4 Dalmatians (with whipping, wagging tails)... OR 12 chihuahuas (or a baker’s dozen for extra safety ) You’re welcome *May or may not be terribly inaccurate.

13.01.2022 Today it's Dog Appreciation Day. Dogs enrich our lives in so many ways. They make us laugh, they make us cry, they keep us active and keep us company. Dogs live for the moment, something we should all learn from them. Let your dog know they are loved and appreciated by you today and every day.

12.01.2022 It's Halloween today and who better a symbol of Halloween than the black cat? Did you know.... There are 22 cat breeds that can come with a solid black coat. Black cats are omens of both good and bad luck, depending on where you are and the situation. Black cats are less likely to be adopted from shelters.... Regardless of superstitions, we think black cats are absolutely adorable. Have a happy Halloween friends.
