20.01.2022 Today is International Developmental Language Disorder Awareness Day! Children and Adults with Developmental Language Disorder have difficulties in understanding what is said to them, they have trouble finding the words they need to express themselves, and they are more likely to have associated literacy difficulties. It's more common than you think - there is on average 2 kids with DLD in every classroom!

20.01.2022 Meet Archie! He's the newest member of the Waraker family (and we are delighted!). Things will be a little quiet business wise over the next few months as we enjoy cuddles with Archie and adjust to being a family of 5! I will be starting back up with clients in the new year. 12.01.2022 ZOE (2) - "Can I look at the book Isla?" ISLA (4) - "It's not just a book Zoe, it's to help people to talk." Ahhh bless Isla is totally right. PODD books are just one form of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) that people can use to help get their message across to others. What better way to help with that than to have everyone familiar with and interacting with the PODD book (mum, dad, grandma, siblings, teacher, friends at school, etc) - not just the pers...on with communication needs. LET'S NORMALISE AAC. HAPPY AAC AWARENESS MONTH!

05.01.2022 This guy! What a champ. Covid-19 hit and so sessions were via Telehealth which worked so well for this family. Research shows that telehealth therapy can have the same outcomes as face to face therapy. This guy is proof! When he returned to ECDP after a couple months of telehealth sessions, his teachers were amazed with the improvements to his language skills as well as an increase in confidence. He and his mum worked hard and it shows. Well done!

03.01.2022 Visual symbols make communication easier for ALL individuals, but particularly those who have trouble understanding language and getting their message across verbally. These photos are from an amazing inclusive playground in Canberra (Kambah Adventure Park). Brisbane City Council is also working towards making more playgrounds inclusive for everyone but more work needs to be done! I encourage you to contact your local council member and advocate for your local playground to be more accessible for every child to enjoy.
