23.01.2022 Hi all - thank you for all your inquiries, we were swamped! If you have already inquired we will get back to you. At this stage we are not taking any further inquiries as we have some strong prospects for him.

22.01.2022 Thank you Pamela Adams for supporting yet another Sighthound in need. Here is an opportunity to get a copy of Pam's book and help Shadow at the same time. <3

21.01.2022 We would like to thank Skinny Dog Pet Treats for sponsoring Maggie, our current rescue foster. You can visit Skinny Dog Pet Treats here.

19.01.2022 Izzy is in her forever home. <3 Can you provide a home for Izzy the senior Ibizan? We previously advertised Izzy and Shadow as a pair for rehoming; however, in the last few weeks, 8 year old Izzy has really blossomed at her foster carers and we now think she will do well being homed separately from Shadow.... Izzy was rescued with a litter of her puppies, her puppies are now growing up in their new homes and it’s time for her to find a permanent loving retirement home of her own. Izzy loves to spend a little time exercising and playing, but also likes to spend time on the lounge with her people. Izzy will only be homed as an indoor dog, and will need to join a family with other dogs as company. Your home will need secure fencing and gates to 6 foot, Ibizans are able to clear low to medium height fences easily. Izzy is good with other dogs. She is cat friendly when introduced correctly, and shows minimal interest in horses. Izzy is comfortable with adults and great with respectful kids. When she trusts you she is very loving and snuggly. Izzy has been spayed, microchipped and c5 vaccinated. Izzy is being fostered near the QLD/NSW border. Given COVID constraints on air travel and state borders, we are welcoming applications from QLD/ACT/NSW only at this stage. Placement will require a home check where we meet all members of the family including companion animals. Izzy is a genuine rescue and Ibizans are a unique breed. Izzy will require ongoing patience, tolerance and understanding. To express an interest in giving a home to Izzy write to [email protected] letting us know a bit about your location and why you can provide a great retirement home for Izzy.

18.01.2022 Can you provide a home for Wilma? Wilma is a 7 year old Afghan Hound looking for a permanent loving home. She is desexed, affectionate, well behaved indoors and good with her foster carer's dogs.... Wilma walks well on the lead and can be bathed and brushed without problems. Wilma is chipped, wormed, and has her C5 vaccination. Wilma needs human and canine company to be happy. She would do very well with a mature male Sighthound as company and a family where there is usually someone at home. Wilma is NOT cat safe. She is good with children. Homes that are experienced with Afghan Hounds or similar Sighthounds like Salukis would be especially suitable for Wilma. Wilma’s adoption fee is $450. Wilma is being fostered in Southern NSW. We are prepared to consider interstate placement, subject to COVID restrictions. To make an expression of interest in Wilma please fill in this form: https://www.ahsrr.org.au/provide-a-home-for-an-afghan-houn/ Only applications made by filling in the form will be considered. Please give the Committee time to consider all applications.

17.01.2022 EDIT - Freesia is on hold pending homecheck. Thank you for all your support and interest. - Can you give Freesia a loving home?... Freesia is a bright and bubbly 7 year old desexed Afghan Hound looking for her perfect forever home. Freesia has deformities in her front legs and feet that mean that she needs someone who can give her a loving life with considerately limited activity - like walking on lead and puttering in the garden. Freesia is not suitable for activities like lure coursing or agility, or for someone looking for a high activity companion. Freesia IS suited to someone looking for a great couch buddy. Freesia’s new people will need to ensure her future needs are met to keep her physically sound and as pain free as possible. Her weight will need to be managed carefully to ensure that her mobility is not affected. She will need an owner strong enough to say no more treats! Freesia is good with other dogs, and has good dog manners. Due to her physical constraints, her future dog housemates will need to have excellent dog manners as well. Another couch potato hound would suit her very well as a companion. Freesia is located in Southern NSW. Subject to COVID restrictions, east coast interstate adoption will be considered To express an interest in Freesia please email [email protected] and let us know why you think you can offer a great home to Freesia.

17.01.2022 Can you help us help Shadow? Shadow is a lovely 3 yo Ibizan Hound who has had a very rough life so far. Since coming into AHSRR foster care 6 weeks ago, she is really starting to blossom. Shadow is starting to enjoy life with her Mum, 8 yo Izzy, and her foster family. Unfortunately, Shadow had an intestinal blockage that happened after hours on the weekend and required treatment at the emergency vet resulting in a bill of $2,407.35... We are a very small rescue group and although Ibizan Hounds aren't a breed we would normally rescue, as part of the sighthound rescue community, we were happy to step up to the plate and help Shadow and Izzy, as well as Willow. We are seeking your support and assistance towards the costs associated with Shadow's medical expenses. The vets have given some discounts, which is awesome, but it's still a large amount for a small group. Your assistance will ensure that our rescue funds are not depleted to the point where we can't help another sighthound in need. We know it's a difficult time for so many of our supporters, but please consider a donation, no matter how small, to help Shadow, who has been let down by too many humans in the past. Every donation matters, every donation makes a difference. Please also share this post...let's use the power of social media to spread the word and help Shadow. Shadow and Izzy will be seeking a home once Shadow is well. Check out our listing on Dogzonline.com.au if you would like to know more. To donate please donate directly to the AHSRR bank account: BSB: 325185 Account: 03650877 Account Name: Saluki Rescue

15.01.2022 FOSTER CARER FOUND - thanks all! Seeking a foster carer for a mature female sighthound.

14.01.2022 WEBPAGE ADOPTION FORM TECHNICAL ISSUES Hi all, unfortunately we discovered today that our webpage adoption form has not been sending notifications and we're unable to recover anything that may have been submitted in the last few months. The failure appears to have been due to a required patch on our website. We have fixed this up, and tested the form and it's working now. If you have previously submitted a form and not heard from us, please accept our apologies and resubmit. https://www.ahsrr.org.au/provide-a-home-for-an-afghan-houn/

10.01.2022 EDIT - Willow has found her home. Thank you for all your support and interest. Willow is 3-4 month old desexed female Ibizan Hound rescue looking for a home of her own. Willow is very typical of her breed. She is highly intelligent and has a lot of energy and drive. Willow is an athlete in the making. She will need a very active engaged owner or she will become challenging to manage.... Willow is looking for a home that understands that she will need: - to live inside with her family; - to receive steady socialisation throughout her life; - high secure fences (minimum of 6 foot complete around areas she will be in); and, - regular opportunities to use her mind and body safely. WIllow had a difficult start in life and her foster carer is making great progress with house manners and basic life skills, Willow’s new owner will need to continue this work. Willow would be particularly suitable for people who have previous experience with primitive breeds like Basenjis, Pharaohs and Azawakhs or, more challenging personalities in other Sighthound breeds like Salukis and Afghans. Willow is being fostered in Canberra. Subject to COVID restrictions and home checks, we are prepared to rehome interstate to the right home. To read more about Ibizan Hounds as pets go to this link: https://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/reviews/ibizanhounds.html To express an interest in Willow please read the above link in full and then email [email protected] and let us why you think you can offer a great home to Willow.

08.01.2022 In late June we were asked if we could help with fostering some rescue Ibizans. We ended up taking three girls a puppy, an adolescent, and an older girl who had recently had a litter. It has been a great opportunity to learn about this breed, and a lot of hard work. We are used to Salukis and Afghan Hounds, who are niche breeds. Ibizans are another niche again. We want to pay tribute first to our two amazing foster carers Raelene Stewart and Erika Henzell. Both are ...experienced rehabilitators and trainers of dogs and horses. Without their sensible and pragmatic skills and experience and their gentle and wise patience this would not have been possible. Thank you. We want to thank AHSRR’s supporters. One of the Ibizans had a 4 figure vet stay, and another a typical young sighthound injury that was a bit graphic at the time but is now fully healed. The donations provided by the stalwarts of the Australian and New Zealand breed communities were important to both taking care of these girls, and ensuring we are well positioned to look after the next Sighthounds in need. So also was the generosity of the West Queanbeyan Vet who gave us a great price on Willow’s vet bills. Thank you Hamish and team. Respect and grateful thanks to Marion Furbank and Christine Small for their interest, being prepared to support our foster carers with advice and for providing a lead to one of their forever homes. Thanks to World Class Hounds’ Julie Kopunovich for pulling a rabbit out of a hat and getting Willow onto same day flights from Canberra to Perth. Anyone who has dealt with animal transport in the last few months knows this is no small feat. Julie really saved the day! Finally thanks to their forever people for giving them a home of their own and love. <3 Happy life Fen, Shadow and Willow. xx

08.01.2022 We are so pleased to be able to let you know that Maggie went to her forever home yesterday. You can keep in touch with Maggie at her new page. xx

07.01.2022 Maggie is an older rescue Saluki looking for a consistent, thoughtful and dedicated forever home. Maggie was surrendered carrying an old gunshot injury that had shattered her upper arm on the left side. We don’t have prior history for her and she was not microchipped. It was apparent from the age and condition of her injury that Maggie had been on three legs for some time, and in considerable pain, Maggie's recovery is therefore not just a physical one, but a mental one, and... she is just beginning her journey. We think Maggie is between 8-10 years old. While Maggie is slowly coming out of her shell following the amputation of her leg, she is still quite shut down and her instinctive response to stress is to flee. Despite being on three legs, she is capable of scaling and wriggling under fences, unlatching crate doors and gates and of covering kms at speed. Her ability to move and climb is superior to many four legged dogs. Maggie is therefore not a candidate for an off lead companion and her new people must have high, very secure fencing and gates and be prepared to have her securely contained indoors or in a roofed, concrete floored run when away from home or otherwise unsupervised. Maggie will need to spend the first few months of her life on lead only outdoors until she bonds to her new people. Therefore, her new people must be patient and conservative in their approach and willing to put the work in to win her affection and confidence. Maggie’s new people will also need to work to keep her as physically sound as possible, and continue with her physiotherapy regime. As a senior tripawd she is not suitable for high impact dog sport or activity. She will be placed as a companion only. Her weight will need to be managed carefully to ensure that her remaining three limbs are not further damaged. Maggie is not a dog for those who have difficulty managing their dogs’ weight. Maggie is confident and good with other dogs. Due to her physical constraints, and her reserved nature, her future dog housemates will need to have good dog manners. A mature Sighthound male would be an ideal companion for Maggie. Maggie is not suitable for a single dog household, she needs canine company to be happy. Maggie loves to sit on the couch with her people. She is more comfortable with women, and displays fear and uncertainty around most men. Therefore she will likely do better with a female as her primary carer. When she is comfortable she is a real snuggle bunny and will give someone special enough to be her guard and guide many hours of quiet, affectionate company. Maggie has been spayed, microchipped and C5 vaccinated. Maggie’s placement will be subject to a home check involving meeting all household members, human and companion animal. Experience with primitive and/or independent breeds will be highly regarded.

06.01.2022 Shadow is now doing much better, and she and her sister Izzy will soon be ready for their forever home. We would like to thank our fabulous supporters for their generous support. We managed to cover the full amount of the bill and so are now well positioned to help any future needy hounds. If your name doesn’t appear here and you donated, please alert us and we’ll take a look into it. Many thanks to S Wheatley, D Harding, A Sparks, J Ramsey, C Small, W Downing, G & C Arkell..., K Bush, S Boyd, C Stevens, R & J Vavala, S Borrell, G Royle, M & P Furbank, P Egan, G Perry, A Pirie, N Mclachlan, K Broadley, M Thompson, H Russell, V Collins, E Guthrie, R Smith, J Davis, A Jones, A Sexton, S Perkins, J Walsh, A Watt, M Yet Foy, K Edwards, S Meuller, B Providenti, P Stroman and Smith. Also many thanks to Pamela Adams for donating copies of her book to support Shadow's vet bills. <3
