25.01.2022 After Dark Gallery - life drawing - Elven Kendall this Sunday - https://mailchi.mp//after-dark-gallery-online-life-drawing

24.01.2022 Sessions this week from After Dark in Perth city (you can come in and draw with us or Zoom in from your studio). Tuesday 4:30pm - Golden Amber Tuesday 7:00pm - Curvaceous Jane... Sunday 10am - Maestro Male Model Kieran 20-min pose session Sessions are $11 or $8.50 for earlybird (available until the end of Monday for Tuesdays session and until Friday for Sundays session). There are some materials and easels at the studio if you decide to come along at the last minute and if you want to join online we keep the ticketing open until halfway through the session - links are sent with the ticket confirmation. https://linktr.ee/afterdarkgallery Drawing below done via Zoom and Ian Calcutts very dodgy home internet (yet he perseveres and is always Zooming to sessions!)

24.01.2022 Thank you everyone who came along to the "return of the Tuesday 7pm life drawing session" tonight - including Hana and Renee from Queenslandia (so up past their bedtimes!) and James from California who has an internal body clock that managed to wake him up to start drawing with us at his local time of 3am. Commitment! Here is a social media allowable photo of one of the poses - from a slightly different angle to what was Zoomed out - and Karin and Helen's version of it (bot...h drawing in studio). We'll be keeping our eyes peeled on Instagram so what everyone posts and share them with you here. The next life drawing session is on Sunday at 10am Perth time (GMT +8hrs) - you can come along and draw in studio or via Zoom. Same great lighting and effects but Sunday is a 20-min pose session for those that really want to take them time. https://www.trybooking.com/BNGYD

23.01.2022 Life drawing on tonight now and again at 7pm. Draw online at home or in the studio in the Perth CBD. Get tickets at: https://linktr.ee/afterdarkgallery... Drawing by Renee Herd (Qld) (on Insta as wenchenstein)

23.01.2022 We've got the spry and nimble Ballroom Dancer Tom posing for us this Sunday in our usual 20-min pose sessions on Sunday from 10am-noon local Perth time. Giving us a completely different body shape with an eye for the dramatic and a flair for finding the spotlight. Ticketing >> https://www.trybooking.com/BMGRR

22.01.2022 And this is just one of many reasons why we need the Arts. Let along the psychological, creative thinking and problem solving abilities and community links that it builds.

22.01.2022 You never know who is going to walk through the door or hop online to Zoom into a life drawing session. Mikki was just coming along with a friend to have a scribble and was inspired by it all she wrote an article for a publication based in New York. We are not sad about that at all!! (Except maybe Chris, cos he had to go and whip up a website so they could link to something other than Facebook Thank you, Mikki!! We LOVE this article!!!... And if youd like to come along to one of our regular sessions: Tuesdays 4:30pm and 7:00pm Sundays at 10am https://linktr.ee/afterdarkgallery http://gomag.com//bored-of-zoom-happy-hours-try-virtual-l/

21.01.2022 Artists. They come in every medium. Weve just been quietly fascinated with this video so thought wed share it. Its always nice to have a reminder that art is more than a 2D field and to treasure anything handmade - from sculptures to cookies to teapots.

21.01.2022 So seeing as the fabulous lighting and other fancy stuff was such a hit yesterday we thought that we'd crank up the Tuesday at 7pm session as well! Ticketing link: https://www.trybooking.com/BNHII (And we'll also post on the event page somewhere - even if it isn't the usual ticketing linky bit)

21.01.2022 Our first session of Tuesday life drawing starts in just over half an hour at 4:30pm Perth time, with another session at 7pm today. If youre keen to draw Kate today then head to the below link to grab a tickie - login details will be sent with ticket confirmation. https://linktr.ee/afterdarkgallery And if theyre not then email Chris at [email protected] and hell get you sorted... (so handy having someone that knows how to work lighting, cameras and IT!) Here was Ellies work from last Tuesdays 7pm session. She was drawing in studio. Such confident lines!! She always draws with a texta. See more of her work on Insta at @princesstoasty (Shes also my kind of cook) See more

20.01.2022 After Dark Gallery - life drawing - Kieran and Kate and Kate (again) and Jane

20.01.2022 Sunday life drawing is back on this week - and we're embracing all things German with Jenia posing for us and bringing her 2 Sausage Doglettes!! So bloody excited. Hopefully they aren't as excited as I am and hopefully they will sit still for long enough for people to draw them. Jane has also promised to wear a dirndl and plaits. ... https://www.trybooking.com/BMCRQ

19.01.2022 The arts and culture sector has been hit hard by COVID-19 - and virtually every artform is still facing complex issues and uncertainty. Id like to thank WA art...ists, musicians, performers and everyone involved in these industries for their patience and understanding during this difficult time. Its important that we help our local artists get back on their feet and back on the road - and thats what were doing as part of our WA Recovery Plan. Today weve announced a number of initiatives that will help make this happen, and help create new jobs to support our arts industry. Weve created the Getting the Show back on the Road package to reactivate live performances and touring activities across WA. That package include $5.65 million of waived fees for local performing arts companies to use State Government venues, a contribution to events delivered by WAM and up to $9 million to underwrite COVID-19 related financial risks for live music and performance. This is vital funding to enable local shows to get underway in the current environment - and will relieve financial pressures which could otherwise prevent them going ahead. Lotterywest are also providing $5 million of funding for the Creative Communities Recovery - Artists in Residency Program which will provide valuable employment opportunities for individual artists to work with local communities, activate spaces and deliver broad community benefits. Today weve also announced two new projects today for to iconic WA venues, with a $30 million upgrade on the way for the Perth Concert Hall, and $15 million for further upgrades and restoration work at His Majestys Theatre. These projects will create local jobs in construction, and will set the stage for the future of WA performing arts. Its been a tough time for WA artists - but this funding will help get them get back in business and back to creating great WA works.

19.01.2022 This Sundays 2hrs of 20-min pose session will experienced model Lynette. She[s been posing around the traps in Perth for about 2 years so has plenty of experience. This delightful scribble is by one of our regular artists, allan burke, at a pre-Covid IRL session at Kidogo Art House in Fremantle. Its a lovely spot, right on the beach but its always a bit brisk there in the winter months and Allan has already maxed out his beanie collection wearing 3 of them at the same time. If youd like to join the session either in the studio or via Zoom, head to the booking link to bagsy a spotto! https://www.trybooking.com/BLLRF

19.01.2022 Life drawing is on hold for a couple of weeks as Chris, our chief button pusher, furniture mover and lighting guru, has just flown to a remote mine site to do some work. :-( Makes it a little hard to juggle everything so instead we'll take another little break. Apologies for the late notice everyone. We were trying to figure out how to do it and then Chris' flight got moved forward 24 hours. ARGH! So shall give you some inspiration for your own drawing. This is Tom by ...Amy Marshall. She'd run out of paper so had to use newspaper - which was serendipitous as we were just all talking about how the best drawings you do are on the worst bits of paper. Sian thought it was the "low expectations" that helped them along. Suzie thought it was Sods Law. Whatever it was we love this drawing on newspaper, particularly with "Miss Universe" in the middle of it See more

18.01.2022 If you are keen to come along to one of our Tuesday sessions then you might like to get a wriggle on and get an early bird ticket at $8.50 (rather than the usual $11). It may not be much but theres probably enough for a Mars Bar or a decent pencil with what you save :-) Head to our list of links and pick the day and time you are keen on and that will take you to the booking site. Easy peasy. :-) ... (and a big thanks to Patrick who did this about 30 minutes ago and reminded us to remind you that weve got a string on this finger to remind us weve run out of string.) https://linktr.ee/afterdarkgallery See more

17.01.2022 We are out of town for a couple of days so..

17.01.2022 After Dark Gallery - life drawing - a musical interlude and a man! - https://mailchi.mp//after-dark-gallery-online-life-drawing

17.01.2022 Such a great initiative by ARtS Narrogin! Theres more to an exhibition that having enough paintings to put on the walls and you can support some of less touristy regional areas at the same time. The ARtS Narrogin team organise quite a few workshops, performances and exhibitions in the town - this might be a great way to make contact and think about a country exhibition / workshop.

16.01.2022 Thank you to everyone for coming along to the session today - those avoiding the weather by zooming in, getting out of lock-down via the magic of the internet, those zooming in from far afield and those who came in to the studio as we drew Kate and then heard her play guitar and sing one of her original songs - a world premiere!! :-) <3 and thank you to Janet Palmer in Qld for showing us her beautiful work (already up on Instagram before the session had even finished j_palmer_art) and introducing us to the beautiful handmade watercolours of Matteo Grilli. If you want to see her gorgeous watercoloured birds or find out more about his paint (and how to buy it) head to his website at: https://matteogrilli.blogspot.com/

15.01.2022 FRINGE WORLD call out!!! We have dipped our toe into the Fringe waters this year and have signed up as a Fringe venue. And we feel a little like a capybara wading into the Amazon. We have had so many requests for Fringe performers that we'll be having a very busy Fringe season. But we still have some space for a few more - particular at the beginning of the week. So if you're an artist looking for a Fringe venue get in contact as soon as possible. Event applications close ...on 29 October (i.e. THURSDAY!!). eeeek! We also have McNess Memorial Hall right next door if you're after a larger more traditional hall venue with a wooden floor. Wherever your show fits that's it's home, right?

14.01.2022 Were having a pop-up life drawing session this Friday, 31 July. Broadcasting the session out on Zoom in monochrome with dramatic lighting - even more so than usual - or come in a draw in the studio in full colour! 4:30pm-6:30pm Perth time for 2 hours. Poses will be a mix of 2, 5, 8, 10, 20 minutes. T High def cameras, tech to ensure no image distortion and lens zoomed in to maximise the image on your screen. Model will be Jane.... Payment is by donation - so pay what you can, if you can. Book tickets via the event page and Zoom details will be sent via email. https://www.trybooking.com/BKTDK (or drop us a line and well send you the link directly).

13.01.2022 Artists always have a hard time pricing their work, possibly more so than any other industry. The Small Business Development Corporation regularly run informative free business workshops and this one looks like it could be particularly useful. Thanks to local artist Chantalle Grummet for pointing this one out to us.

12.01.2022 We're back! Well, almost. After a month-long break while our Tech Whiz Chris tries to figure out how to cope with a bulging disc, we are back tomorrow, Sunday, at 10am Perth time (GMT +8hrs). He has managed to cope with the god-awful pain by doing some retailing and has added whiz bang lights to the studio. There will be overhead and side washes in a variety of white (warm and cool) and colours!!.... $11 for 2 hours of uninterrupted scribble time. You've got plenty of time to sharpen your pencils https://www.trybooking.com/BNGGC (Here's an example of the new lighting. And that is *not* Curvaceous Jane in the picture.)

12.01.2022 Silk Road stylings for this mornings life drawing session. An abundance of textiles, turbans and tassels. Session starts at 10am (Perth time) with 2 hrs of 20-min poses. Bring your colours for this one!... Ticketing stays open until half way through the session and Zoom details are sent automatically with ticket confirmation. Email us at [email protected] if youre having problems with any of it. Tickets: https://www.trybooking.com/BLCXN This was Ian Calcutts work from the previous Silk Road session. Ian Zooms in from lockdown Victoria with a terrible Zoom connection that keeps cutting in and out. Fortunately we have Chris working the tech for us at After Dark to always make sure that everything is working smoothly and to help people easily enter the session and answer any questions. Come and join us today! Wed love to see you.

12.01.2022 If youve got some space in your diary this Saturday morning...

11.01.2022 After Dark Gallery - life drawing - Sundays Silk Road session - https://mailchi.mp//after-dark-gallery-online-life-drawing

09.01.2022 Life drawing is on tonight (Tuesday) at 4:30pm (Jane) and 7pm (Kieran). Classic life drawing sessions for drawers both in our studio in the Perth CBD and also via Zoom with uncluttered backgrounds, professional studio lighting and high definition imaging. If your internet connection is a little dicey rest assured that there will be at least 1 pair of non-modelling eyes (and hands) on the session to let you back in and answer any questions you may have. If you havent Zoomed... before and have some questions please drop us a line and well give you a hand to get set up. You dont have to be an amazing artist to join us, you dont have to have ever drawn before, you dont have to show your work or audition! We believe that life drawing is good for your soul and your mind, whatever your skill level. This drawing done last week is a by Kris Keen, an artist who has drawn for most of his 70+ years. His loose flowing style typically produces 5 drawings to everyone elses 1! For tickets to tonights sessions see https://linktr.ee/afterdarkgallery or, if youre coming in to draw with us, you can pay us in cowrie shells and scones when you get here. ;-)

09.01.2022 Poppets and dumplings Happy Tuesday, happy return to 7pm life drawing!!! We are back on tonight, fancier than ever. Zoom in or join us in the studio at 10-14 Pier Street, 3rd floor. (Art AND cardio all rolled into 1 ;-) ) https://www.trybooking.com/BNHII

08.01.2022 Life drawing this week - we have Kieran doing 20-minute poses over the 2 hour session on Sunday morning and Kate is doing double duty on Tuesday - both the 4:30pm and the 7pm session. If youd like to book into one of these sessions - either in-studio or online then head to the links here: https://linktr.ee/afterdarkgallery and for some inspiration as to what you can achieve in 20 minutes with an iPad, here is some absolutely gorgeous work by Hana Pearson who Zoomed into... last weeks Silk Road session. Well be doing another one of these (because you cant have too much of embroidering, kimonos, turbans, chunky jewellery or silk) the weekend after on Sunday, 30 August at 10am. Well get that link up soon! (Isnt Hanas work divine? If you want to follow her on Instagram see her at: @hanas.sketchbook

08.01.2022 We had such a fun time in the studio today - hopefully not so much fun that we interfered with anyone's drawing but tiny dogs with small dog syndrome growling like they were rottweilers every time Chris strode by. Such little ratbags! and so bloody CUTE!! thank you so much Jenia for bringing the little monkeys in!!! We are going to keep the vague Germanic theme going this week and have a dirndl session this Tuesday at 4:30pm Perth time. Poses will be 20 ish minutes (or ...until the first person starts to cry). There will be colour and form and if we could find a spare tuba lying around we'd put that in as well however i think we might just have to go with a pretzel or 2. And for the 7pm session we have Ballroom Dancer Tom posing for us for the first time at the studio!! Ticketing at >>> https://linktr.ee/afterdarkgallery

08.01.2022 Our regular Tuesday life drawing is on tonight. We have Knees-and-Elbows Kendall ("Kend-elbow"!) posing for us at 4:30pm. She is all "bones at strange angles" and pale as moonlight. And Curvaceous Jane posing for the 7pm session. Some diverse body shapes so a great evening to perhaps think about doing both sessions. If youre having a think about it, the booking link stays open until half way through each session to give you a chance to turn up a fashionably late and still ...get in the door ;-) Find the ticketing links for the sessions here: https://linktr.ee/afterdarkgallery See more

07.01.2022 Some examples of the #lighting for #lifedrawing at in the #studio. Getting everything ready for #fringe.

07.01.2022 Life model call out! We are looking to diversity our life drawing models. We are looking particularly for POC and people with disabilities who can be still for about 15 minutes, have a creative and inventive mind, are happy to be nude in front of strangers (dont worry, they all stay well away from you!), and have mainly untattood skin Just a note, this *is* paid work. If you are interested then please send us an email to [email protected] and tell us why youre interested in being a life model, why you think youd be good at it and a photo of you (clothed!)

07.01.2022 After Dark Gallery - life drawing - 17-23 August - https://mailchi.mp//after-dark-gallery-online-life-drawing

07.01.2022 One of our favourite social media posts ever from one of our regular Zoomers from California. James and the Giant Shirt!! Giant in style rather than size. Much like his drawings. Find him on Insta as jwhelok. . .

05.01.2022 If you feel like jumping onboard some Zoom life drawing this morning (or coming into the Perth CBD for a draw then we've got life drawing at After Dark this morning from 10am Perth time for 2 hours. 15 min poses, bloody fancy lighting, Jane is posing :-) $11 to keep you out of trouble for 2 hours (and away from the Black Friday sales) is a bargain :-) https://www.trybooking.com/BNGGC

05.01.2022 Some "back office" info about the process of creating natural dyes.

05.01.2022 Chatted today with Perth Mayor candidate Di Bain about how we would like to see the City of Perth CBD enlivened by art and artistic endeavours and the difficulties of red tape to get small businesses up and running. Phew! Weve got a lot to say and that wasnt the end of it. Like most of the wonderful tourist destinations in the world, art (both performing and visual) make them unique and memorable. And well keep advocating to make this part of the everyday Perth life, not just for one or twice a year.

03.01.2022 Do the captains of the social media giants still snigger when someone farts? Probably. They seem fairly juvenile in their attitude to bodies. We posted an event with a fairly innocuous photo of a bottom, attached to a body. Not sexy, not suggestive. Just a body. And we wonder if that body had been wearing a g-string whether the Great Algorithm in the sky would have said - oh, thats clothes so thats fine. Yep, go on through. So weve changed the picture to something less obvious. Because life is fairly tough at the moment, post covid, post trying to find ways to make a living, and big tech seems to want to make it harder every day and regress us with every "upgrade" until surely we will end up in 1820. But anyway, if you think youre grown up enough to be able to deal with looking at a human body much like your own, then wed love to see you this Friday night (18 Sep) at 7pm Perth time for a 2hr quick draw session of 3-min poses. Well be in the studio and online via Zoom. Chris has even got his camera shined up to take some reference photos for you to use of all the poses. He is going to be buzzing around the studio from control panel to Zoom feed to camera. Perhaps we should slap a pedometer on him? And if you cant make the session then you can also just grab a link to the reference photos - with 2 hours of 3 min poses there will be around 35 hi-res (but not too high so theyre annoying to download) images. https://www.facebook.com/events/1247439118929335

02.01.2022 The double standards of nudity in the media. From male to female nipples, from advertising a handbag to art, from a photograph to a drawing. From nipples (barely) covered but an overtly sexually photograph to a nude drawing of a woman just sitting around doing nothing in particular.

02.01.2022 After having this morning off from life drawing, weve now organised the Tuesday sessions (because everyone is only seems to be living from 1 week to the next - who knows what will happen after that?) and Sunday morning life drawing as well. If youre keen to get organised and take advantage of the early bird pricing $8.50 compared to $11.00, then head to the booking link below to bagsy a spot. https://linktr.ee/afterdarkgallery... For some inspiration, here are some of the drawings from our Freebie Friday session, Zoomed out in monochrome and full technicolour for the drawers in the studio. These sublime creations are by: Amrita Taylor (VIC) - Instagram amritalefae Renee Herd (Qld) - Instagram wenchenstein Juliet Greaves (WA) - Instagram julietgdesigns Andrew Cave (Qld) - Instagram xenides ... all very "followable" :-) Well be having another freebie session coming up soon so join our mailing list to make sure you dont miss out. http://eepurl.com/g5UKdb

02.01.2022 Chris was so excited by the photos he took on Tuesday using a "Plain Jane" white floor and black walls (something to do with great lighting that bounced off the floor and fill in the model - well let him explain the photographic nuances later) - and by a few people keen to do a short pose session that we thought we would combine the 2 ideas this Friday night for a Short pose session (3-min poses) WITH the option of getting a link for reference photos from the session. Photo...s will be taken on a DSLR camera, saved at high res (but not so big that they are awkward to download), and the email sent out within 36 hours of the session ending so you can work up some of the poses (because the best and most exciting poses are always the short ones). Sounds exciting, right? If youre keen to join us this Friday evening - either in studio or via Zoom - head to the event page for ticketing information. https://www.facebook.com/events/1247439118929335

01.01.2022 Who thought staying like this for 15 minutes was a good idea? Maxing out the Drama Queen mode in Sunday's life drawing session. We're back on again tonight (Tue 1 Dec) in about an hour (7pm Perth time) - in-studio in the Perth CBD and via Zoom. If you'd like to join us grab a ticket for Zoom details or just head on in to the studio. Whatever you prefer. 2hr session of 2-15 min poses for $11... https://www.trybooking.com/BNHII This wonderful scribble was by new to After Dark, Ed. Glad you found us!!

01.01.2022 Arty makers with something to sell. If youre keen to sell your wares and help support Headspace this Sunday, this art market has a couple of spots left for sellers and are looking to fill them. They are $25/stall and big enough to share with someone. This is an incredibly well-priced event and the chance to hang with some makers in Freo and support a great cause. Get in contact with Bridey (the organier) on Insta at @bumblebeeblue https://www.facebook.com/events/1008913169...553106 This might be a great day to capture Dads and the fam wandering around Freo looking for things to do! https://www.facebook.com/events/1008913169553106

01.01.2022 Is it too early to think about January yet? The sun is barely out for spring and we are thinking about summer already and Fringe World Festival! Weve registered the After Dark space (and the big hall with fancy catwalk next door) as Fringe venues. If you are thinking about putting on a show and looking for venue in the middle of the Perth CBD, something a little dark and mysterious or something big with a stage and a wooden floor then give us a shout and well show you around the digs.
