21.01.2022 Afterglow Pilates stands in solidarity with Djab Wurrong. A few days ago a sacred Djab Wurrung cultural artifact known as the Directions Tree was felled to make way for a highway extension. This happened after years of protests and even after negotiations and an agreement to protect 15 trees of significance early last year. The 15 trees include two Birthing Trees with hollows within which women would give birth and trees that are up to 800 years old. On Monday Police and VicR...oads evicted Djab Wurrung people and protestors from the site and cut down the Directions Tree. A petition demanding cessation of work at the site fan be signed here https://www.melbournefoe.org.au/stop_work_now You can also contact Dan Andrews and Victorian cabinet ministers and epress your disapproval and opposition of the highway extension and the destruction of the Djab Wurrung Sacred Birthing Trees. All you have to say is ‘I wish to lodge my protest against the current works on Djab Wurrong Land’. They will ask for your name, phone number and postcode. You’ll probably hear some terrible on-hold music and if the lines are busy you can leave a message. 21.01.2022 Group class at 2pm AEDT. Today we’re going to focus on extension and thoracic mobilisation. This exercise, the swan dive, is not for everybody. I filmed it because it’s kind of fun to watch, but if you have a tight lower back or SIJ pain I’ll give you a nice gentle alternative to strengthen and mobilise the upper back without the risk of aggravating anything else. DM for further details. Beginners welcome. Thanks @tattoos_and_pilates for suggesting some more extension exercises.

20.01.2022 And my last online mat class for the week is 2pm today, back by popular demand, and today’s class will include this side bend and twist variation, which feels amazing for your hips, thanks to Blossom Crawford @bridgepilates for the inspo, and the dog was interested in me for about half a second then thought to itself, ‘This bitch got no ball, he’s a waste of time.’ Online Mat Schedule (AEDT) Monday 12.30pm & 6:45pm Tuesday 8am... Friday 12pm Saturday 2pm @samaan_fieck

19.01.2022 Come to my Pilates class at 6pm today. It’s good for mental and physical health and posture and immunity. Do you another reason?

19.01.2022 Hey friends, no online mat class today because it’s my birthday and I’m going swimming in a river somewhere, but will be back tomorrow for the 2pm class, also from next week there will be no Tuesday class as it has been changed to Wednesday 8am. Online group class schedule below: Monday 12.30pm & 6:45pm... Wednesday 8am Friday 12pm (but no class today) Saturday 2pm This was an impromptu pre-swim Pilates class a few weeks back with Liam, Hao, Leo, Lachlan and Lou. R-Coo

16.01.2022 Chair Pilates. Today’s group class at 6pm may or may not include a chair. Would you give these exercises a go? My favourite one is the thoracic mobilisation series at the end of the second video, it was created by Katrina Edwards and makes my spine feel really really good.

12.01.2022 I’m doing two new online mat classes today, lunchtime and evening. Full weekly schedule below: Monday 12.30pm* & 6:45pm* Tuesday 8am** Friday 12pm*... Saturday 2pm** *45 mins **1 hr This exercise is called back support with some modifications to vary level of difficulty. Great for opening up to your chest and improving posture. I’m still in quarantine but from next week I’m back in the studio. Individually tailored clinical Pilates sessions available in Fitzroy, CBD and Williamstown. DM for details.

11.01.2022 I teach clinical Pilates at Aligned for Life Pilates in Melbourne’s CBD Mondays and Thursdays. When you do sessions with me you will get an individually tailored exercise program based on your goals, current injuries, conditions, and posture type. Perfect for people who dislike the gym environment or want something more nuanced and holistic. I also teach a progressive level mat class 12.15pm Thursday. DM for more info. This exercise is called Breathing, but like a lot of Pil...ates exercises, especially in the studio, it’s a lot harder than it looks. This is a full body work out. It looks like I’m just kind of hanging there, but actually I’m pressing into the bed with the back of my shoulders, maintaining width through my collarbones, lengthening through the back of my neck, reaching through my arms towards my feet, pushing the bar down onto my thighs, and pressing my pelvis into the air, gently tucking my tailbone to lengthen though my lumbar spine, and of course focusing on my breath. This is what it looks like to exert yourself while hardly moving. @bjrashleigh_pilates_movement

07.01.2022 Second last Thursday mat class before Christmas, do some exercise in preparation for a week of ingesting turkey roast and pavlova and champagne or whatever, become acquainted with your inner tranquility in preparation for being stuck in a room with family members you usually avoid, 6pm on zoom, Santa Clause is coming, are you ready for the mayhem?

06.01.2022 Start your week right with some online Pilates, today, tonight, or tomorrow morning. Online Group Classes Monday 12.30pm & 6:45pm Tuesday 8am... Friday 12pm Saturday 2pm See more

05.01.2022 This has nothing to do with Pilates but I made a film with my dad and it won a prize at Queensland Poetry Festival and it could win another prize if you vote for it. Links to watch and vote for film below. If you vote I’d be forever grateful, or at least feel a sense of gratitude and warmth for about 24 hours. If you only follow me for Pilates content and you were hoping for a hot tip about how to do a better plank or whatever, sorry dude, maybe next time. Also voting closes ...tonight. Vote here https://queenslandpoetryfestival.com//2020-qpf-film-poetr/ Watch here (from 2:20 in) https://youtu.be/74svZwVDRG4 More info about film Repost @kishore_ryan And so my dad and I won the Regional Prize in Queensland Poetry Festival’s Poetry+Film Challenge, and we’re super thankful, and there’s also a People’s Choice Award so pleaseshameless self promotionvote for us (voting closes today), link in bio, and ‘Waiting With My Father’ is 4 minute short I made featuring my dad Max Ryan’s poetry, and the two poems featured in the film, ‘Waiting With My Father’ and ‘Fragment’, are about the passing of Max’s father Gordon, and the link to watch watch it, along with the other finalists, can also be found in bio (ours starts at 2:20), and congrats to all the finalists, and thanks so much to @qldpoetryfest and @pascalle.burton and the other judges, my dad and I are very touched you liked our film.

05.01.2022 And it’s going to be okay, zero new cases and zero covid deaths in Victoria for the eighth in a row, and off you fuck Donald, and if you’re not drinking margaritas in the park all day come to my Pilates class at 2pm on Zoom.

04.01.2022 [Scroll to last paragraph for Kishore’s latest vaguely amusing stream of consciousness rant.] New lunchtime mat Pilates class today at 12pm (45 mins). Full schedule below: Monday 12.30pm & 6:45pm... Tuesday 8am Friday 12pm Saturday 2pm And I got let out of quarantine early and I thought to myself why don’t I drive to a forest and do a handstand up against a tree, I know, I’m a pretentious poser, so do you think it’s harder to work on Friday? Do you get more of a 3pm slump? People generally don’t like doing Pilates on a Friday, especially after work, because today is strictly reserved for getting drunk, but Pilates is actually the perfect thing to get you ready for the weekend, it will make you feel less lethargicless sack-of-shit-likeand potentially improve your stamina for drinking and socialisingas proved by a recent study by Dr Fakemanby the way, what’s your favourite lyric from Rebecca Black’s Friday? Mine is probably ‘Tomorrow is Saturday and Sunday comes afterwards.’

04.01.2022 Online classes are still a thing. People realised they don’t like leaving their house unless necessary and I am down with that. Pilates at 2pm today on Zoom. See you there.
