08.01.2022 Black Trillion The Fatal Shore Self release As soon as the first notes fell upon my tortured soul I felt comfort, I was subdue to the barrage of haunted guitar riffs and chanting vocal melodies it was like a journey travelling through the most treacherous landscapes and comic out to an unknown world expecting the unexpected, my mind was travelling at 110km per hour even if some of the passages were the most soothing which fed my inner soul.... Debut album by this Sydney duo and what they bring is a record fill with quality music, which will satisfy a lot of people who are into the doom genre but the whole album is not an endless march of long and never ending songs, yes there’s quite long songs in the album like the opener Conviction which reminds me a bit of Bellwitch but it is the music filled with diverse influences they don’t just pigeonhole into the same formula again and again instead they experiment and bring a lot of atmosphere into the recording especially the vocals the mix of growling sounds and clean vocals makes it really interesting and adds more spice into the pot, the first two tracks are epic just like the doctor ordered. Watch Haunted Oceans https://youtu.be/b2vLlQntAT0 Diseased is a warmongering of riffs and blastbeats but soon evolves into one of the most beautiful tracks in the album, the aura around is just perfect for a night out and dwelling in the most remote parts of your inner soul, their influences are up at their sleeves but that’s your work to figure it out, as soon as Haunted Oceans appears from the depths you know this is one of the tracks to pay total attention, their gigantic guitar riffs sends shivers down my spine while the drums match along is chaotic from the moment is unleashed and their signature style kicks in back and forth until the demon is unleashed again and spirals out of control leaving nothing but endless sorrows. Watch Banished https://youtu.be/y0VbR_ZSz3I The last track The Fatal Shore emanates painful whispers in the air with a haunting melody that soon transform into an everlasting marriage of deadly guitar riffs and pulsating vocals, the combination of the vocals are perfect and that harmonica playing soothing chants gives me goosebumps is a perfect fit it doesn’t not weaken the song at all is the total opposite it created one of the most sinister melodies I had heard in a long time, is the longest track in the album cloaking over 9 minutes long it just crush without warning like I said is a journey when I hear this album and it transpired by the second, turn the lights off, light up some candles and just let the sounds of this album take you to the deepest landscapes ever traveled. http://blacktrillium.bandcamp.com/album/the-fatal-shore
