25.01.2022 A woman will appear in court today charged over allegedly spitting on a bus driver in Sydneys CBD. About 5pm on Wednesday (6 May 2020), a woman, carrying a do...g, boarded a bus stopped on Eddy Avenue in Haymarket. Police will allege in court that when the bus driver, a 44-year-old man, told her that dogs were not permitted onboard, she refused to leave and spat on him. The woman then ran from the bus through the front doors. Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation. Following inquiries, including a public appeal, police arrested a 52-year-old woman in Dacey Gardens about 10.30am today (Friday 8 May 2020). She was taken to Maroubra Police Station, where she was charged with common assault. The Matraville woman was refused bail to appear before Central Local Court today.

25.01.2022 In response to the news article & in support of Petra and other drivers, My opinion and some of my personal experience of working as a Bus Driver for Brisbane City Council.

19.01.2022 and I bet he/she blamed the bus driver too...

19.01.2022 Minister Mark Bailey disappointments Bus Drivers once again, With Industry Employers reporting that Translink are not consultative, and changes are coming quick...ly and without notice and the Minister remains silent on his portfolio. Yesterday, Bus and Coach Drivers Association, Secretary Darren Dickson called on Minister Bailey whos portfolio is the Minister for Transport and Chair of the Bus Drivers Safety Committee to at least acknowledge the Bus and Coach Drivers who continue to work during the Pandemic. During Two Facebook live sessions yesterday he could not make 30 seconds for the thousands of Bus & Coach Drivers across the State supporting the state during the Pandemic and transporting masses of people to quarantine hotels and camps. Bus and Coach Drivers have families, and each morning they awake to the self quarantine message and now only a maximum of 2 people, yet with a looming reductions in service this will drive more people onto lesser services increasing the risk to people who will travel on the few bus services. Minister Bailey is a thank you and some consultative processes with Industry representatives and employers to much to ask of Translink.

18.01.2022 Drivers made this happen for this Driver Mitch was so stressed at work that he had several workplace breakdowns which resulted in his constructive dismissal (he... resigned because he could not face work any more) WorkCover initially refused the claim and with the help of Ernesto (a decent bloke and his team), Mitch has appealed and the application has been accepted as valid, this is, of course, just the first step in a process but it is a step forward for Mitch. This is important because we are Drivers for Drivers and your membership and support helps Drivers who would not have ordinarily got this chance at fairness. Well done everybody - this is why we are Members

16.01.2022 Attacked Bus driver sacked by Brisbane City Council for defending herself. Watch Channel 9 6pm news, tomorrow Tuesday 10th March.

12.01.2022 "PTSD is now acknowledged as major issue for public transport bus drivers in Australia." A shame the Unions & Service providers didnt acknowledge this problem earlier & nip it in the bud with some appropriate support & treatment.....

09.01.2022 In 2001 the Queensland Government established a School Transport Task Force. It established a standard of a minimum one accessible handhold per standing passeng...er with no more than five standing passengers per square metre of aisle space (eg. 1 square metre = 0.4m aisle width by 2.5m aisle length); Thats 5 standees for every 2.5m of aisle. It would appear there are a lot more school students standing on school buses every day then this rule allows for. That could be a big problem for the bus driver if one of the standees is injured.

07.01.2022 A viable & proactive alternative to unions... And YES they have coverage!

07.01.2022 And about time BCC public transport buses were cleaned thoroughly and what about the air-con filters, are they being cleaned and dissenfected yet?

04.01.2022 #AmericanHeroes: Bus driver keeps service rolling through the coronavirus pandemic. Lester Holt has his story.

03.01.2022 How many other professions in Australia accept a random punch to the face or daily racist and derogatory remarks as an occupational hazard? Enough is enough. We... have been consistently speaking out on the safety crisis affecting our bus network, but the serious safety concerns of drivers have been routinely ignored. The results of our most recent Bus Driver Operator Safety Survey provide a clear picture of the safety crisis in our bus network. Via Transport Workers Union SA/NT Branch - TWU SA/NT

03.01.2022 Way to go Petra, hope you hit him good and hard. In my experience with the council better to be sacked for that than following councils bulling demands & sitting there copping it & then being sacked for not being able to return to work as was in my case. Workers compensation claim was knocked back in my case as well. Systemic bullying with-in council & its RTBU needs to stop. Time to Privatise Brisbanes Public Transport System, I think.

03.01.2022 We are now way through the first term of the Queensland 2020 school year and TransLink and its school bus contractors still have not resolved the issue of chr...onic overcrowding of school buses throughout the TransLink school bus network. Daily students and their school bags continue to be crammed into school buses across the Queensland TransLink network. TMR/TransLink and the school bus contractors continually say the buses are not overcrowded and the number of students on board is not more than the legal passenger carrying capacity of the bus. TMR is clear in their information bulletins, Codes of Practice and other legislation that the aisles of a bus cannot be blocked with luggage. TMR/TransLink and the operator will tell parents and the school community that the bus is fitted with a luggage space where the students can place their bags. TMR/TransLink and the operator will tell the parents and school communities that the bags must be carried within the seating space provided, thus students will have their bags on the floor or on their lap. TMR/TransLink and the operator will tell the parents and school community that the bus driver must always drive in a safe manner. Unfortunately, TMR/TransLink and the operator dont consider all the factors when they advise parents and school communities that the buses are not overcrowded. For years TMR/TransLink and the school bus contractors refuse to acknowledge the size of school bags are equal to the space occupied by 1 passenger. They have reports and investigations done by transport consultants, accident investigators, Universities, The Bus Driver Safety Review, media outlets and others confirming this to be the case. We will use a bus with a displayed carrying capacity of 56 seated and 30 standing. 56 seated students with school bags is equal to the space occupied by 112 passengers. 30 standing students with school bags equals a space occupied by 60 passengers. In discussions with TMR/TransLink and the school bus operators they have implied this is not correct and they imply the 56 seated passengers will have their luggage at their feet or on their lap and the 30 standing students will be carrying their school bag in one hand and hanging on with the other. They insist the students are safe and the bus is not overloaded. All parties involved need to remember, this bus has 30 students standing in a very grey legal area and who will be responsible if a student is injured or worse? (Photo acknowledged to be from The Daily Examiner Archives in reference to an article on school bus overcrowding)
